Through our housing programs and services, we help local families persevere through difficult times — families like Betsy's.

Since getting evicted, Betsy and her three children had been sleeping in their car. Once Betsy came to The Salvation Army, our caseworkers helped her locate housing options and navigate prospective landlords. After many hours of paperwork, phone calls and prayer, we were able to help Betsy find a new home! “This is definitely a family that has learned how to persevere and advocate for themselves,” said Betsy’s caseworker.

The Salvation Army provides food pantries and meal programs. These programs are especially crucial in “food deserts,” where entire communities lack easy access to a grocery store. The Salvation Army also offers a variety of food box distributions at various times and for different events. This has been crucial during the last year, when the need grew exponentially due to those affected by COVID-19.

For some, they found themselves at The Salvation Army’s doors for the first time in their lives, and without question, food was served.

Captain Jim Dillingham thank you for the gift of the bible and your prayer for my daughter Leah Parks and her family. Janice and I enjoy visiting often the Salvation Army Family Store of Waycross. You have a friendly, helpful, courteous, wonderful staff. May God continue to bless you and your organization. Grace, peace, and love to you and yours. Sincerely, William Parks.
This was copied from a post in the Waycross area. Its Not me but I'm very disappointed in the "captians" response to this issue.. "Extremely upset about what transpired with this business. I thought they were here to help, work with, and assist others in their time of need, but refuse to work with customers who spend money at this store.. Salvation Army, Tebeau ST. Waycross, GA. On Wednesday November 22, 2017 while visiting your store in Waycross, GA... Just as we do almost everyday..This new Lady was working behind the counter. We entered the store after I got my 78 year old Mother a cart. I sat down on one of the love seats that is for sale.. Ms Stacy yelled over " Hey, you need to get up, my Caption doesn't want our customers to sit on our merchandise". I was dumb struck due to I've been doing this for the past 4 years at least 5 times a week.. I asked her where would you Caption like for me to sit while I wait for my Mother? She said that's not my problem, but you can't sit on my furniture.. I asked her what are the customers suppose to do when the disabled come in and need to sit for a few minutes? She said that's not my problem neither. Then I asked her is your Caption going to put a few chairs out for customers to sit? She said Nope, we don't have to provide that service.. I said I agree you don't have to, but knowing of all the disabled people in this area, why wouldn't you want to accommodate as many as possible? She once again replied, that's not my problem.. Talk to the Caption.. Mom already had several things in her cart, so I walked over to her and told her that we're leaving, because I'm NOT standing here for the next hour while you shop.. I went next door to talk with Caption.. He didn't want to hear anything from me.. He said I understand you're here almost every day, and spend money here, but I decided that I don't want to allow anyone to sit on the furniture. I replied I would agree with him 100% especially since he was selling the furniture, but I thought you would at least have a place for customers to sit while they wait for others to shop.. Because Goodwill, Walmart, and a few other stores offer that for their customers, not to mention you've got several folding metal chairs sitting here.. Why not take a couple of these over to the store for your customers? He said I'm in charge and I am not going to do that. I tried bringing up the fact about the disabled who need to sit from time to time, but he stated.. Look, I am in charge, this is my store, and what I say goes.. If you want that service, then you'll need to go else where to shop. Then he stated I'm not debating this with you any further.. Have a good day, turned and started walking off.. I replied.. Thanks and it must be nice to be able to lose $20-$50 a day in sales, from Mom, NOT to mention a few of Mom's friends meet us there, and spend those amounts as well.. Which I've already contacted 3 of them, and they've agreed with my points, and stated they will NOT return until they get some seating for their spouses as well... Mom goes into this store for her daily therapy session, She suffers from CHF, and Dementia. So I'm NOT able to leave her in the store alone while I sit in vehicle.. The staff that works there teases her about it quite often. She'll miss this store, but I will be happy to take my money to other merchants, if seating can't be provided to us customers, while we wait the hour or two for them to shop and browse the store.. It's NOT like we're asking someone to provide us a room with TV, coffee, and other drinks.. It's a couple of simple folding chairs to sit in while we wait for our loved ones to shop at your store, or for the disabled to sit and take a break when they need too.. If need be.. I'll purchase the chairs and donate them to this store, for myself and other customers..."
