Magnolia House postpones annual ‘Dancing with Southern Stars’ to ’21
Special to the WJH
Instead of holding the annual “Dancing with the Southern Stars” in August as had been planned, The Magnolia House chose to postpone the event until August 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Michelle Girtman, director of The Magnolia House, said dance teams were chosen, but with the spread of the virus, no partners could get together to plan dance routines, select music and practice for the show that has been a major fundraiser for Magnolia House.
“We already have our dance teams assigned, but with the quarantine, work couldn’t be done for the show,” said Girtman. “We decided to wait until next year and keep the same dancers we’d planned for this year.”
Presenting sponsors for the 2021 Dancing With the Southern Stars will be Ankle & Foot, Walker-Jones Dealerships and PrimeSouth Bank.
During 2019, Magnolia House shared the receipts of the event with Hospice Satilla. In 2021, Magnolia will share the proceeds with
Okefenokee Miracle League.
“We’re hoping to raise $200,000,” said Girtman.
Dance teams include — No. 1, Briana Chapman/Benji Hersey; No. 2, Mandy Smith/Blake Smith; No. 3, Wendy Mitcham /Johnny Mitcham; N. 4, Stacey Perritt/Matt West; No. 5, Sarah Yawn/Eric Herrin; No. 6, Whitney Delk/Matt Gourley; No. 7, Ambi Bess/Harold McClain; No. 8, Mia Redick/Todd Williams; No. 9, Summer Stipe/Charles Pritchett; No. 10 Maggie Smith/James Murray; No. 11, Laci Gillis/Mason Tippins; No. 12, Nina Kelley/Scott Moye; No. 13 Terri Rideout/Caleb King; No. 14, Halee Leggett/Hunter Leggett.
Prior to the event, dance teams will work together to raise funds for Magnolia House and Okefenokee Miracle League.
They will hold fundraisers, sell tickets on baskets and other items and the public may vote on them at the website set up to receive funds.
