Disabled Veterans National Foundation

Disabled Veterans National Foundation The Disabled Veterans National Foundation works to offer programs and services that impact the lives of veterans and their families. The Disabled Veterans National Foundation (DVNF) was founded in the fall of 2007 by six women veterans and State Women Veterans Coordinators to expand their scope of work within the veteran’s community.

Having spent over twenty years focusing on women veterans’ issues, the recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan brought forth the rising need to help returning wounded and disabled veterans. This exacerbated an already overworked VA hospital and care network that was struggling to keep up with the many surviving veterans of past conflicts and service. *This page is family friendly. We welcome lively discussion on topics relevant to veterans' issues. *The use of profanity on the DVNF page will automatically result in post being deleted, and potentially being banned from the page without prior notice. *DVNF will not honor requests from users for the organization to post their own content. www.dvnf.org twitter.com/dvnf youtube.com/OfficialDVNF instagram.com/thedvnf

Mission: The Disabled Veterans National Foundation exists to provide critically needed support to disabled and at-risk veterans who leave the military wounded—physically or psychologically—after defending our safety and our freedom. We achieve this mission by: - Offering direct financial support to veteran organizations that address the unique needs of veterans, and whose missions align with that of DVNF. - Providing supplemental assistance to homeless and low-income veterans through the Health & Comfort program and various empowerment resources. - Providing an online resource database that allows veterans to navigate the complex process of seeking benefits that they are entitled to as a result of their military service, as well as additional resources they need. -Serving as a thought leader on critical policy issues within the veteran community, and educating the public accordingly.

06/27/2020

Today is PTSD Awareness Day. PTSD is the acronym for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. And is a severe psychiatric disorder that includes unwanted flashbacks, #depression, rage, thoughts of self-harm, paranoia, and a sense of detachment from others.

Everyone has experienced difficult, life-changing events in their lives that have affected their physical or mental health. But approximately one out of every five #veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan experience PTSD due to the high number of life-changing events they have witnessed and experienced over a sustained period.

For our Veterans, experiencing the constant flashbacks, and the unpredictable thoughts, can be too much to bear. And sometimes leads to fatal outcomes such as #suicide. #DVNF is helping Veteran Support Organizations fund programs that help #disabled veterans suffering from issues including #PTSD to cope with these difficult challenges.

Anti-microbial, machine washable face masks coming to soldiers to help protect against coronavirus

The Army has secured a contract for more than 180,000 face masks, so soldiers won’t have to permanently rely on ad-hoc items like neck gaiters and t-shirts, which may or may not effectively filter out coronavirus-sized particles.

https://www.armytimes.com/news/your-army/2020/05/19/anti-microbial-machine-washable-face-masks-coming-to-soldiers-to-help-protect-against-coronavirus/

The masks are contracted through the textile manufacturing firm Milliken at a total purchase cost of $749,000, which breaks out to roughly $4.16 per mask.

Yesterday, my dad received a large envelope from DVNF with a free t-shirt and grocery bag. As a military veteran with a rated disability (USMC, USAF, USCG), I was asked if I wanted the t-shirt. When I checked the shirt label to see what size the shirt was, I was surprised to see that the label said MADE IN CHINA. How come you folks are moving merchandise made in China? Is there an alternative veteran-owned company located in the United States that could do the job? I think making a commitment to use veteran-owned vendors would be a positive policy for DVNF’s credibility.
This weekend let's not forget what Memorial Day is all about. It's not about politics or the politicians who send men and women into harms way. It's about those brave men and women who may have joined for reasons of patriotic pride or because they believed in the calling. Many others were drafted or joined because of reasons like economic hardship, not ready for college, needed a skill to successfully enter the workforce, etc. Memorial Day is for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to this country. It is THEIR day to be remembered.
