Back to school means "First Day of School" photos! While these types of pictures are a fun way to mark the beginning of the school year, they are also an easy way for someone to exploit valuable information about your child. Additionally, these photos can contain information that you may use for passwords or password hints.

It's completely reasonable to want to share the start of a new school year with your friends and family on social media, but there are ways to do so safely! You can blur out areas of the photo that contain personal information, or you can post an alternate photo to social media like Officer Remphrey did!

Be Positive, be kind!

Be Positive, be kind!

By making a habit of using positive phrases around your little ones you’ll be building their confidence and self-esteem.

It can be challenging, especially in the moment to think of positive phrases that you can use. Save this image to your phone and use it as a cheat sheet! Using positive language can help kids feel supported and loved, and gives them a sense of empowerment that will stick with them into adulthood.

We're All Human Here

Is there anything you'd add to this list? What causes you sensory overload?

(For more great images and supportive content like the graphic below, check out @Psyched Mommy.)

Sensory overload is just one thing that can activate my anxiety which in turn can bring on feelings of rage. It is on me to control how that is expressed and to move from reactive to responsive. A helpful step toward being responsive is to identify what I experience as sensory overstimulation.

We're talking about this today in our Family Happy Hour and sharing what became a tipping point for our family and changed how we address sensory overstimulation and how that impacts our relationships.

Muddled is a Happy Hour conversation with our family about difficult topics in a lighthearted and honest way.

Our three eldest join us for Happy Hour every Friday and we’re sharing part of our conversation with you live and uncensored.
For our happy hour conversations, we are live and uncensored (mostly), getting vulnerable with each other and sharing with you. Our family has had ample opportunity to learn how to navigate when someone is quite literally getting on our nerves and we’re sharing the hard conversations we’ve had about these realities, what we’ve found helps, and talking about what more we could do to support each other with our sensory challenges.

After a brief conversation here on Facebook, tune in here for more of our conversation by becoming a member: https://bit.ly/2xaJkAc

Your membership helps us to continue supporting others in growth and connection through the human experience and gives you access to exclusive content and more.

Our Story

Membership in the PTA will cost $5.00 per person. You can fill out a form(once they’re available) and return it to school with your child/children if you wish to join. Any family member, neighbor, or friend can join. Monthly meetings are held to inform you of any upcoming events and spotlight a theme, concert, and other special activities. These meetings will be on the third Tuesday of each month at 6pm. When there is a need to change that date, we will send out a reminder. Fun Events will be planned once a month. Some of these are for the entire family such as Pizza & Pumpkins, Winter Wonderland, etc... there will also be a few after-school dances for the children (parents are always welcome to attend these as well). Most of the Fun events will cost $5.00 per person and include some kind of snack and juice. Fundraisers: These will be held to help pay for assemblies, field trips, school store supplies, scholarships, and other school programs that need support from the PTA. Boxtops: We are collecting Boxtops again this year to help pay for a special event at the end of the year. They are now digital! You can download the app and simply scan your receipt to submit boxtops for WOES.

Volunteers: We need you! Volunteers are needed to make this a successful year. We had a record number of volunteers last year, and we would love to see that continue. We can use volunteers at any time of day or evening to help with PTA and school events such as the Fun Events, after-school clubs, lunch room, Wampum Store, etc. We utilize many special skills so please let us know if there are any hobbies you enjoy that might be helpful. We can also use help in the form of donations of different kinds of things throughout the year if you are unable to help in person. Windsor Oaks Elementary PTA is offering scholarships to graduating high school seniors who are in good standing with Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or better and must have attended Windsor Oaks for at least two full school years. Applications may be downloaded from www.vbschools.com (scholarship central) or may be picked up from the Windsor Oaks office. Applications must be submitted by April 22nd and be accompanied by a 150 word essay, two letters of recommendation, and an official school transcript. Together we can make this a very fun and educating year for our children. Please join us in any way you can!

Our first grade class would like to thank you for making our Virtual Field Trip to the Virginia Zoo possible. We had an exceptional time. Thank you!
Just wanted to take a moment and say I think our WOES teachers and staff have done a fantastic job teaching both virtually and in person, and making the switch back to virtual so suddenly. While it isn't easy on parents either, I can't imagine what it is like for teachers!!! Kudos to all our WOES family. I'm proud to be both a product of WOES (a loooooong time ago) and a parent to current WOES students. Hang in there teachers/staff. We can do this!!! Stay safe everyone.
Does anyone know if the meet the teachers will be the Thursday before school starts again? Trying to plan for work purposes to be off so we can attend. Thanks!
Will school supply lists be sent out?
πŸ“š Lookout for this flyer on GREEN paper coming home today!! πŸ“—πŸ“˜Tons of NEW Books to Win πŸ“—πŸ“˜
Can someone explain how the Lifetouch photos work? The form sent home leads me to believe I must prepay before I see the pictures, but when I go online to order, it looks like I can order after they are taken. Do we need to prepay before we even know what the pictures are going to look like?
Beginning design of my trunk or treat.
I would love to volunteer to clean out the flower bed around the WOES sign. It's a hot mess. Can you give me some direction on who to ask? I could also do some mums, since fall is hereπŸ‘πŸΌ
Does anyone happen to know when Open House will be? I've checked the website but there's no info!
Have schedules been mailed?
How does one obtain the supply list for the upcoming school year? Would like to take advantage of tax free weekend. It's for second grade if that matters.
