FEEDING PROGRAMS: FY17-18
JCOC’s Feeding Programs help to prevent homelessness. The individuals and families served are often faced with the decision between buying food or paying rent.
COMMUNITY DINNER – Every evening a nutritious, free dinner is available to individuals and families in need. Dedicated volunteers served more than 80,000 meals during our last fiscal year.
FAMILY FOOD BOX – This monitored free food program is available once a month to Virginia Beach residents who have children under the age of 18. Guests receive a box of meat and a box of nonperishable items. Household size is taken into consideration.
FOOD PANTRY – JCOC offers free groceries Monday-Saturday to households living on a fixed income or below the poverty level. Items include fresh produce, meat, dairy and bakery.
HOUSING PROGRAMS: FY17-18
More than 200 individuals were permanently housed utilizing JCOC programing in FY18.
DAY SUPPORT – Homeless individuals can take a shower, do laundry, utilize case management and life skills training, and receive mail at this JCOC run program located at the Housing Resource Center on Witchduck Road in Virginia Beach. It is open from 7 am – 3 pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; 7 am to 11:30 am on Wednesday.
EMERGENCY HOUSING – JCOC has the only year round shelter in Virginia Beach for single adults. It is located at the Housing Resource Center on Witchduck Road. This past year, 60 percent of our clients exited the shelter and entered permanent housing. The median length of stay in the shelter was only 54 days.
PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING – JCOC provides housing for 8 chronically homeless and disabled individuals for 30% of their income. Case Management services are included.
RAPID REHOUSING –This past grant year our team helped 100 people previously living in shelters or on the street find permanent housing. By working with landlords, JCOC secures affordable housing and provides Home Based Case Management for up to two years to ensure clients remain housed. Financial subsidies are offered on a case by case basis.
VETERANS TRANSITIONAL HOUSING – Sixteen veterans at a time participate in this program located on West Lane in Virginia Beach. Individuals are linked to VA services and receive Housing Focused Case Management services. Eighty-six percent of those leaving have moved into permanent housing.
WINTER SHELTER – JCOC partners with more than a dozen faith-based organizations to provide temporary shelter for 60 homeless people during the year’s coldest months. Hot dinners and breakfasts are provided as well.
