Pastors desk
I am not sure where you are in life today, but I want to share this with you and maybe it will enlighten you: There are times during the hard seasons when our hearts may wander from the gravitational pull of God's love. But what if the trials, hardships, struggles, and detours were actually for your good?
What if these difficult seasons were meant to help you destroy idols buried in your heart? What if God needed you to make mistakes and suffer hardships to mold you, grow you, and sanctify you into the mature believer he has called you to be? What if all of these things happened for you and not to you?

Perhaps the trial feels never ending because instead of growing and getting better, you pulled away and became bitter. Every season of life, the highs, and the lows, are all needed for you to learn to give grace more freely, to forgive others more easily, to show compassion more deeply, to protect others more boldly, to soften hearts more humbly, and to love unconditionally.

Our purpose is to know, love, and be more like Jesus. Therefore, we must pursue him if we want to become more like him. Allow your selfishness and stubbornness to be stripped away and offer your heart to him. Accept the lifeline he is throwing you and jump into the deep; fully trusting him to pull you toward the safety of his open arms.

Our lives will. never be perfect. We will continue to fight the battles, endure the struggles, swim in the seas of confusion, walk through the fires of pain, and be battered by the waves of rejection. This is what Jesus meant when he said, "For in this unbelieving world you will experience trouble and sorrows, but you must be courageous, for I have conquered the world!" (John 16:33).

This week, make a commitment to continue to make it your goal to grow in the likeness and perfection of Jesus Christ. Allow him to lead you. Relinquish all you are and all you have as an offering to him. Then, trust him to lead, guide, and direct you into his perfect will for you here on Earth.

I hope this will encourage you today!

Good Morning to all!
I was reading my devotion for today and I wanted to share it with you. I thought it would be great to inform you of the goodness of God.

God Is Good:
Good is a word we use to describe how our day is, how we’re feeling, or how a particular meal tasted. Yet, it’s also a word that we use to describe our mighty, majestic, and miraculous God. Seems odd, doesn’t it? To use a word to describe God that we’d also use to describe how we felt about our lunch.

We can see evidence of God’s goodness everywhere, in every day, and in every situation. Even when we’re not aware of His goodness, He’s still good. While God does do good things, His goodness is more than just what He does. It’s who He is.

Psalm 25:8 NLT says, “The Lord is good and does what is right; He shows the proper path to those who go astray.” The Hebrew word for good in this verse is towb, and it means “good, pleasant, agreeable, excellent, and valuable in estimation.” God is all of those descriptions!

When we get that promotion at work, we yell, “God is good!” When our lives are problem-free, we say, “God is good!” When someone has been healed, we shout, “God is good!” But, what about when times are troubling? Or when challenges come our way? Or when life just feels hard?

When our loved one passes away...
When we are furloughed from our job…
When the cancer report says “malignant” …
When our spouse betrays us…
When our child continues to rebel...

Is God still good in those situations? Are His ways still excellent? Is He still more valuable to us than anything? The truth is that God’s goodness doesn’t leave when our circumstances change. He’s always the same. Not only that but God is truly good all of the time. He can’t not be good. It’s who He is. He’s the definition of good.

When something good happens, God is good. And when something bad happens, He is good. As hard as it can be to say that it’s true. Even if and especially when...God is still good. It’s much like the sun on a cloudy day. We say we can’t see it because it’s hidden behind clouds. But it’s still there. The same is true for the hurts and disappointments in our lives. They can cloud us from seeing God’s goodness, but rest assured, it’s always there because it’s who He is.

It’s usually in our disappointments and difficulties when we call into question the goodness of God. But turning from God in the midst of our pain removes the only truly good thing from our sad equation—God. So, when we’re tempted to doubt and allow our current scenario to dictate what we believe, let’s dive into God’s Word to remind ourselves of this truth.

He’s a good God.

Completely Yes

v.1 Yes, Lord! Yes Lord! From the bottom of my heart to the depths of my soul, Yes, Lord!

Completely yes! My soul says Yes!

v.2 I love You! I love You! From the bottom of my heart to the depths of my soul, I love You!

I really do! My soul says Yes!

If I Can Help Somebody

v.1 I can help somebody as I pass along. If I can cheer somebody with a word or song; if I can show somebody he is traveling wrong, then my living shall not be in vain.

v.2 If I can do my duty as a Christian ought, if I can bring back beauty to a world up-

wrought; if I can spread love's message that the Master taught, then my living shall not be in vain.

The Topeka Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is making #BlackHERstory as they have continued to serve and impact the community through the pandemic and beyond. Volunteering at Harvesters - The Community Food Network every year to honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and celebrating #BlackHistory through the annual Wilberta Williams Essay Contest, the Topeka Alumnae Chapter stands as a pillar for #racialjustice in our community. The Topeka Alumnae Chapter has continued to rise to the challenges of the pandemic to meet the needs of the community in safe and socially distanced ways, supporting front-line workers in need by donating handmade masks and $400 to the Health Care Heroes fund through Stormont Vail Health. Continuing to serve marginalized communities, the Topeka Alumnae Chapter filled blessing boxes at St John African Methodist Episcopal Church Topeka, New Mount Zion, and The New Beginning Baptist Church Topeka Kansas with much needed food and hygiene products and is planning to install a new blessing box on the grounds of Grace Cathedral, Topeka. Happy Thanksgiving from St. John A.M.E. Topeka Church Family
We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. (2 Corinthians 4:8-10, 17-18 NLT)
Seek the LORD while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the LORD that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously. “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. Isiah 55:6-9 (NLT) Who are you seeking for doing these dark days???
God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Psalm 46:1-3 (NKJV) Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! Psalm 46:10 (NKJV) Please know that no matter what is going on in this world God is working on our behave we may not see or feel it, but have faith, be still and trust Him.
