Fundraising

Calling all NoVA Peeps: our unit is doing a fundraiser, created by two of our awesome families, on Saturday, June 5 at Baku Delicious in Fairfax. If you can come, great! If not, please feel free to forward to friends and family in the area. If you don't know who we are, let me know. I'm happy to elaborate!

If you're not aware, the unit has to raise its own funds to exist - we do not get funds from a higher HQ. The last year and a half has been difficult due to Covid, and before that due to Tyson's Corner mgmt changing the way they operated their gift wrapping tables during the holiday season, which was one of our biggest annual fundraisers.
Our unit is 16 and growing, and not all families have the financial means to pay for activities so their kids can participate in our events. For this reason, I have always pushed fundraising so the unit can pay for all or most of the activities, such as encampments, leadership schools, and even our DDR (drug demand reduction) booths have a fee at festivals, despite our non-profit status.

The link below will lead you to the details - and please pass along on behalf of the youth in this organization

Please join us for food sale . All proceeds go to the unit. Help support a great cause.

We have about as many recruits as young marines so the YMs have each been tasked with creating a recruit class based on each PO. They had to create a presentation in whatever method they felt would be most interesting and informative while making sure the recruits could learn.
This helps YMs hone their public speaking skills, ability to create and execute a plan, and think about how someone else learns material.
The recruits get training that helps them learn what they need to in order to become Privates.

Parents of this weekend’s campers:

Your kids are doing well and have settled in for the night. They had some basic campsite training and rule-setting, a campfire with s’mores and fruit, and are about to have lights out.
We had some light rain most of the evening but didn’t dampen their spirits. Will post pics of tomorrow’s activities.
