BISHOP ENEJA'S PHILOSOPHY OF 'GET YOUR OWN BROOM'

In one certain parish, the late Bishop Michael Eneja of Enugu Catholic Diocese was on a pastoral visit. That faithful late afternoon, the weather was very hot, such that staying inside the church or hall was not an option at all. The saintly bishop decided to have his teaching outside, under the avocado pea tree at the center of church premises.

This impromptu change of arrangement caused a stir, occasioning a lot of running around for the parish priest and other key officers of the parish council.

The major drama happened when the parish priest returned with a conference table and discovered that the bishop had already picked up a broom at the front of the church and started sweeping.

On sighting the bishop bending down with a broom in his hand sweeping, the parish priest shouted, "My Lord, please don't do that to me! Give me the broom, let me do the sweeping myself!"

Despite the priest's insistence, the bishop refused to allow him. On the contrary, he said to the priest, "Go and get your own broom."

In obedience, the parish priest went and picked up his own broom and started sweeping. It did not take long before the catechist arrived at the scene and saw both the His Lordship and the parish priest sweeping, and he nearly fainted!

The catechist rushed the parish priest to collect the broom from him but the priest told him, "Go and get your own broom."

The same continued until everyone who came for the conference got their own broom. Just within minutes the whole compound was clean and the bishop continued with his catechetical instruction.

I think the problems in Nigeria can be solved with all of us "getting our own brooms" and joining in the sweeping.

If everybody is to sweep their corner, the whole nation would be sparkling clean within minutes. It is all about starting small and starting it by yourself now. We can still do it. Let's do it!💪💪💪

Who says Religious life is boring?
(♥Consider ★Religious ★Life♥)
There you shall express yourself in an ultimate way that tend to heaven.

In the eyes of the world, the religious life, like living in any convent, community or monastery, might at a first glance seem monotonous, or for some even boring. Is it possible to live truly happily a rhythmic life regulated by prayer, intellectual and manual work? Ofcourse Yes.

But there are also happy and fun times which renews both our physical and mental strength. It is the games time, the time to renew our physical strength in preparation for the spiritual work. All work and no play makes........

Life of saint Thomas, the Apostle and Martyr:
Patron of archtecteur
July 3, 2020:
St. Thomas was born a Jew and was called to be one of the twelve Apostles. His birth and death dates are unknown, but his feast day is celebrated July 3. He lived before the formal establishment of the Catholic Church but is recognized as the patron saint of architects.

He was a dedicated but impetuous follower of Christ. When Jesus said He was returning to Judea to visit His sick friend Lazarus, Thomas immediately exhorted the other Apostles to accompany Him on the trip which involved certain danger and possible death because of the mounting hostility of the authorities.

At the Last Supper, when Christ told His disciples that He was going to prepare a place for them to which they also might come because they knew both the place and the way, Thomas pleaded that they did not understand and received the beautiful assurance that Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

St. Thomas is best known for his role in verifying the Resurrection of his Master. Thomas' unwillingness to believe that the other Apostles had seen their risen Lord on the first Easter Sunday earned him the title of "doubting Thomas."

Eight days later, on Christ's second apparition, Thomas was gently rebuked for his skepticism and furnished with the evidence he had demanded - seeing in Christ's hands the point of the nails. Thomas even put his fingers in the nail holes and his hand into Christ's side. After verifying the wounds were true, St. Thomas became convinced of the reality of the Resurrection and exclaimed, "My Lord and My God," thus making a public Profession of Faith in the Divinity of Jesus.

St. Thomas is also mentioned as being present at another Resurrection appearance of Jesus - at Lake Tiberias, when a miraculous catch of fish occurred.

This is all that we know about St. Thomas from the New Testament. Tradition says that at the dispersal of the Apostles after Pentecost this saint was sent to evangelize to the Parthians, Medes, and Persians. He ultimately reached India, carrying the Faith to the Malabar coast, which still boasts a large native population calling themselves "Christians of St. Thomas."

According to tradition, Thomas was killed in an accident when a fowler shot at a peacock and struck Thomas instead. Following his death, some of his relics were taken to Edessa while the rest were kept in what is now known as India. They can still be found within the San Thome Basilica in Chennai, Mylapore, India.

The relics taken to Edessa were moved in 1258 to Italy, where they can be found in the Cathedral of St. Thomas the Apostle in Ortona, Italy. However, it is believed that Saint Thomas' skull rests in the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian on the Greek Island Patmos.

In art, Saint Thomas is commonly depicted as a young man holding a scroll, or as a young adult touching the resurrected Christ's wounds.

Saint Thomas was mentioned in several texts, including one document called The Passing of Mary, which claims then-apostle Thomas was the only one to witness the Assumption of Mary into heaven, while the other apostles were transported to Jerusalem to witness her death.

While the other apostles were with Mary, Thomas was left in India until after her first burial, when he was transported to her tomb and he saw her bodily assumption into heaven, when her girdle was left behind.

In versions of the story, the other apostles doubted Thomas' words until Mary's tomb was discovered to be empty with the exception of her girdle. Thomas and the girdle were often depicted in medieval and early Renaissance art.

It was joy and jubilation in the Catholic Diocese of Tombura -Yambio as his Lordship Barani Eduardo Hiiboro ordained one priest and seven deacons in a colourful ceremony at St Mary's parish -Yambio. The seven deacons hail from various parishes across the diocese, while the priest hails from Nigeria, a member of Missionaries of Jesus the Saviour, who are expected to start working in Tombura-Yambio Diocese. 7 THINGS KILLING YOUR PRAYER LIFE.

1. Excessive eating: Eating more than necessary at night will only weaken your body.

2. Sleep: You must train body to sleep less and stay awake. Sleep drain your strength to pray. The truth is, some sleep is an attack.

3. Filthiness of the spirit and soul: Po*******hy, s*x chat and impure thoughts are killers of prayer stamina. Your inner man will always be defeated by feeding your spirit man with filthy and erotic content.

4. Bad atmosphere: Atmosphere you're and find yourself matters a lot. If you're among prayer weaklings, gossip and carnal believers your prayer fire will die. Gossip and backbite will frustrate you.

5. Poor feeding of your inner man. If your spirit man isn't well fed you can't be a prayer champion. You don't listen to sermons , you hardly study the Word or Christian articles then your prayer life will be starved to death.

6. Worry: No worrier becomes a prayer warrior. Kill your worry to give life to you prayer stamina.

7. Distraction through watching TV, addiction to social media and boyfriend o girlfriend syndrome. Work on your prayer life.

We Were Children (26,000 Lost Boys)

Sudan has been involved in civil war fueled by religious, ethnic and regional strife since the mid-1980s. Thousands of children have experienced mind-numbing horrors and intense hardship. Their story has been dubbed the Lost Boys of Sudan because they arrived at Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya without parents.

The name, borrowed from the children's story "Peter Pan," describes a generation of Sudanese boys driven from their tribal villages by a devastating civil war between north and south Sudan. Most of the "boys" - which, regardless of age, is how they still refer to one another -- are from the various tribes of Southern Sudan and most are orphans. Approximately 26,000 Sudanese boys were forced by violence from their southern Sudan villages in the late 1980s.

Their villages were attacked mostly at night. The boys, some as young as 4 years old, ran into the surrounding forest (girls were more likely to have escaped or died with their parents, or have been enslaved). They then started walking to a refugee camp in Ethiopia, where they stayed until the Communists overthrew the government in 1991 and forced the young boys to leave at gunpoint. Chased by Ethiopian government tanks and armed militia, the boys frantically tried to cross the River Gilo, where thousands drowned, were eaten by crocodiles or shot.

Those who survived the river crossing walked for more than a year back through Sudan to Kenya. Only half of the original boys, about 10,000-12,000, survived the journey, arriving at Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya in 1992. The majority of them were between the ages of 8 and 18 (most of the boys don't know for sure how old they are; aid workers assigned them approximate ages after they arrived in Kenya).

They walked for days, then weeks, then months and finally for over a year. They walked anywhere from 700 to 1,000 miles, first to Ethiopia, then back to Sudan, then south to Kenya, looking for safety. Ten and eleven year olds were the elders. Seven and eight year olds became each others' parents, binding one another's wounds, sharing sips of muddy water, burying their dead. When the littlest ones became too weak or tired to continue, the older boys picked them up and carried them. Some boys, too exhausted to go on, simply sat down and died of starvation or dehydration. Others lagged behind, becoming easy prey for lions.

In 2001, intolerable living conditions in the refugee camp gave the United States government reason to resettle some 4,000 of these now young men in America. Today, about 120 "Lost Boys" have made Chicago their new home. It is no small irony that several of the boys who came to Chicago were on flights to USA on 9/11 and thought they were bringing the war with them; they were diverted to Canada where they stayed for a few days before they were allowed to enter the U.S.

Their spirit of hope remains strong through their unyielding faith in God, and their intense desire to become educated. They are bright with hope, full of smiles, and ready to become contributing members of their new communities, while helping to rebuild their communities in Southern Sudan.
