Freedom Alliance

Freedom Alliance Advance the American heritage of freedom by honoring and encouraging military service, defending the sovereignty of the United States and promoting a strong national defense.
Freedom Alliance, an educational and charitable foundation, was founded in 1990 by LtCol Oliver L. North, who now serves as the organization's honorary chairman. We will work to "keep America strong, keep America prosperous, and keep America free," said North upon the founding of Freedom Alliance. And so we have. Promoting freedom and liberty, supporting the American military and educating our youth have been - and remain - the priorities of Freedom Alliance. The success and accomplishments we have achieved throughout the years would not have been possible without the help and support of millions of patriotic and generous Americans who care deeply about the future of this great nation. To you, we extend our profound gratitude.

Proceeds from the sale of his book will go to support Freedom Alliance.

In World War II, Alec’s grandfather was held prisoner of war for three years before being recovered by U.S. Forces. His struggles afterwards were life-long and are part of the reason Alec chose to support our efforts in bringing humanity into combat-wounded troops’ lives.

On this day ten years ago, Colonel John McHugh was killed in action in Kabul, Afghanistan, devastating his wife and five children. A graduate of West Point, he was affectionately known by his classmates as “Johnny Mac,” and he went on to serve for 24 years in the Army.

While we at Freedom Alliance did not have the honor of knowing Colonel McHugh while he was alive, we’ve learned a lot about him through his family and friends.

His West Point classmates established the Johnny Mac Soldiers Fund, an outstanding organization with whom we are proud to partner.

Today our prayers are with Colonel McHugh’s family, his friends, and the hundreds of students who are going to college because of his sacrifice.

Today we remember Brian “Doc” Bowman
24 July 1985 - 03 Jan 2010 KIA 24

"I met Brian “Doc” Bowman shortly after being attached to Bad Karma Company 1/12 Infantry 4ID after we had boots on ground at our first Combat Outpost, COP Terminator, Kandahar, Afghanistan. We instantly became the greatest of friends.

We were both support; I served as a mechanic, and Doc an aid station Medic. We both strived to do what we could, when we could, to do our best for the guys on the line, especially Doc. After a few months, Doc was attached to our 3rd Platoon as a line medic from the aid station. I watch him grow as a man, a medic, a soldier, and as a brother with those on the line.

Doc was the man that many should strive to be. Hard working, humble, a great family man, and an amazing friend to all he came across, truly a selfless man and Soldier. Sadly, Doc was taken from us too soon, along with three other great men, while he attempting to respond and render aid after his patrol encountered a dismount Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

In the process of his attempt to make contact to render aid, Doc and SRA Smith detonated a secondary dismounted IED, which ultimately took their lives.

There is not a day that great men like Doc do not come up in thought, whether it be remembering his talks about being a better man, a better husband, and his talks about his dreams to become a father.

Not to mention every time a Metallica song is played, or they are mentioned, I remember his love for the band and how he would jam on his acoustic guitar in the Aid Station to their songs. In closing, please remember to be a better American so as these lives lost we’re not lost in vain."

Remembering Our Brothers and Sisters in Arms

Today we honor the heroism and sacrifice of Marine Lance Corporal Nicholas D. Larson. LCpl Larson gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country during the Battle of Fallujah, just two weeks shy of his 20th birthday. Pictured together with his fellow Marine and teammate, Sergeant Jacob De La Garza recalls his friend’s selfless spirit, saying “He told me if anyone would have to leave this world for it to be him.” Sergeant De La Garza lost two others during the battle, Lance Corporals Michael Hanks and Nathan Wood. Jacob continued, “Marines like these great men should never be forgotten.” Please take a moment to reflect on these men who selflessly fought for us in Iraq in 2004.

WHOW Community and Supporters –

As you know, we are in the midst of an unprecedented situation and our hearts go out to all who have been impacted by COVID-19. We express the deepest gratitude to the medical professionals, first responders and leaders who are serving our communities and doing everything they can to protect and keep us safe from this terrible illness.

Our annual War Heroes on Water Tournament, and serving the Veteran community, is something that is extremely important to us, and something we look forward to each year. Holding the event in a way that is safe, supportive and healing is, and will always be, priority one for the WHOW team and fleet. At this time, it is our great hope that we can hold the 2020 WHOW Tournament in some way, shape or form, but as you know, the COVID-19 illness has proven to be unpredictable. There just aren’t clear-cut answers right now as to when communities and states will reopen, and when groups will be able to safely gather.

There will come a point in time, likely in late June, when we will need to make a final decision about whether or not we hold the WHOW 2020 event. At this time, if we are able to hold the event at all, it seems most likely that we will need to push the tournament date to later in the year (likely October) so that we can gather at a time when the COVID-19 curves are flatter and, when, ideally, adequate testing is readily available. Hopefully, in the coming weeks, answers and options will emerge that allow us to pursue this later, alternate tournament date as a course of action. However, if appropriate safety measures and precautions are not available to us, or we do not foresee them becoming available, this year’s event will not be held. We will never compromise the safety of anyone involved in our event.

As we continue to make our final determination about the WHOW 2020 event, we remind you that this unprecedented time is difficult for many, especially combat-wounded Veterans who are particularly at risk when they are isolated. During this challenging time, the WHOW team and fleet remains committed to supporting our partner, Freedom Alliance, as they tirelessly work to ensure that our active-duty troops and Veterans are safe and well. When the time comes that we are able to safely gather, after experiencing this period of separation, events like WHOW, and our community’s support, is going to be more important than ever. If you would like to make a donation to WHOW to ensure that this and future year’s events can support and heal as many of our nation’s heroes as possible, please visit: http://bit.ly/WHOW2020

Thank you for support of War Heroes on Water. We will be in touch soon, as more information becomes available. #WHOW2020 #FreedomAlliance

Seventy-five years ago we declared Victory in Europe.

Watch Freedom Alliance founder Oliver North's compelling and fitting tribute by to the American Heroes of their day!

It has been 75 years since Victory in Europe was declared. The grand scale of the worldwide celebrations on May 8, 1945 has faded in the world’s memory as most of those involved have passed away. It is important that we should never forget the significance of the Greatest Generation. Only later in life, especially during my own service, did I recognize the enormity of what my father and the 95th Infantry Division had experienced. The heroes of WWII lived honorably with the quiet knowledge that their service and dedication while fighting with the Allies in Europe led directly to the downfall of the Third Reich and the Axis. Working on this dedication to him has reminded me of my father’s sacrifice, service, and love for this country. Happy V-E Day.

Freedom Alliance - Healing the Wounds of War

In May 1990, two Vietnam veterans formed a new charitable organization and shortly thereafter Freedom Alliance began to make its mark on history.

Two months later, in another part of the world, an Iraqi dictator invaded a helpless neighbor. President George H.W. Bush vowed the aggression would not stand and deployed America’s military to liberate Kuwait.

Freedom Alliance determined that Persian Gulf warriors would receive the respect and support their Vietnam-era predecessors were denied a generation before.

The organization immediately launched Operation Homefront and mobilized hundreds of volunteers to assemble and ship 125,000 care packages to our troops in the field. Each box was filled with items to relieve boredom and fight the desert heat, but more important, they conveyed the public’s overwhelming support. It was one of several projects Freedom Alliance initiated to care for our war fighters.

After Saddam Hussein refused to peacefully retreat, the world’s greatest military introduced themselves to the Iraqi army and its occupation of Kuwait was short lived. America’s military came home to a grateful public and a page of American history turned. No longer would a belligerent minority of campus radicals and their anchor desk allies be allowed to malign America’s heroes in uniform.

After the deadliest terrorist attack in history on September 11, 2001, America’s military was sent to fight again. In the long war on terror, Freedom Alliance leads the homefront efforts to honor the fallen, support fighters in the field, help wounded troops rehabilitate, and assist families struggling with the wounds of war.

Freedom Alliance not only supports our troops, we fight for a free and sovereign nation in which “We the People” determine our own destiny. We defend America’s history and her heroes. And we believe in American exceptionalism – the idea that the United States is the greatest force for good the world has ever known.
