Thanks to Scent From Heaven Floral for thinking of our residents. If you would like to participate, contact information is in the post.

UPDATE: Cut off time to participate in sponsoring a resident is now THIS Saturday, June 27th!! See details below....

!!!WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! We'd like to brighten this 🇺🇲4th of July🇺🇲 Holiday for our area St. Ansgar AND Stacyville Nursing Home residents, and YOU CAN BE A PART OF IT!! 💕

As the 4th of July approaches and we all make plans to celebrate with friends and family, it's easy to forget there are those who are still under restriction and unable to see their loved ones in person. It's been lonely and isolating for them, so we're looking forward to brightening their holiday and letting them know their community cares and is still thinking of them.

We'll be delivering a blooming plant the week of July 4th to each resident of both homes, and you can be a part of spreading the joy by "sponsoring" a resident for $10.00.🌻🌷 Sponsor one, or as many residents as you'd like! Just give us a call or message us by July 1st! 641-713-3300 #BeABlessing #spreadloveandkindness #bringsmiles #makeadifference

We hope you all are continuing to stay safe and healthy. As the state of Iowa has continued to loosen the restrictions and open things back up, we have been getting questions regarding the three phases of re-opening Nursing Facilities. Included is a visual from Leading Age that better explains the three phases and how things will look as we move through each phase.

Stacyville Community Nursing Home is currently in Phase 1. We will let you know as we proceed through each phase or if we have to return to a lesser phase. Please note it is at the discretion of SCNH's Infection Control Team and the Iowa Department of Public Health on when to safely proceed to the next phase. Please know the decision will be decided keeping your loved one in our best interest. SCNH will be contacting POA's in the future in regards to visitation and how things may look when we can allow visitors again. In the meantime, we have Ipad’s available for use to Skype and FaceTime and allow window visits while still social distancing.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this process of transitioning through these phases. We will continue to keep you updated as to when we move from phase to phase. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. 641-710-2215

The garden area renovation began on Saturday morning with the removal of the overgrown shrubbery. Larry, Barb, and Alec Bissen, Neil and Linda Schroeder, Geri Brumm, and Karen Brumm hauled three pickup loads of branches away which then left the stumps. Our gratitude goes to Steve Follmuth for sending one of Gordy's Repair & Implement telehandlers with an operator to pull out the roots. The area looks so much better already and there hasn't even been anything planted in the space yet. That small pool will be getting a makeover and new benches are certainly needed.

This video is a couple days late but we wanted to take the time to share with you some of the residents Words of Wisdom. As mentioned last week, May 10th-16th was National Skilled Nursing Home Week and the theme was "Sharing Our Wisdom." We thought it would be cool see what kind of advice/wisdom our residents could give to the younger generations.

Balloon Release 2020

As some of you may know, it is National Skilled Nursing Home Week. We are doing our best during this crazy time to treat all our amazing residents to some fun activities and treats this week. We enjoyed our windy, morning by sending off some balloons. We have done this in the years past and the residents truly enjoy it. We stuff a paper inside the balloon that explains what we are doing and that if someone finds one, we ask that they send us a picture so that we can show our residents how far it has traveled, so keep your eyes out! Take a look at some of the residents who released a balloon this morning.

This sign says it all. (Take a look as you drive by our facility.) As the coronavirus inches closer and closer to home, we are extremely grateful for all of the support that the community has given us during this tough time.

We here at our facility want to take the time to inform all of our community members. At the end of April, we had gotten a phone call that there may have been possible exposure of the virus at our facility. This was one thing we did not look forward to hearing but we were prepared. Come to find out it was a false-positive test. All staff and residents at the facility were tested and all came back negative. We have been and still remain virus-free at the facility.

We want to assure you that we are in constant contact with local Public Health officials and the Iowa Department of Health and have been and will continue to follow all recommended guidelines. We the staff here at SCNH believe we are trained and prepared for whatever may come our way. Resident safety still remains our top priority.

At this time, visitors are still restricted and staff is continuing to follow all precautions. We still encourage family members to call via telephone, Skype, or FaceTime and also through residents' windows. We do ask that if you visit at the window, please do not sit face to face through the screen. Please still practice social distancing at 6 feet or call and talk on the phone while at the window.

Sunday was a picture perfect day for our Annual Auxiliary Flower Basket delivery and pickup. We sold a record 121 baskets. Thank you all for helping us continue our work to make improvements in our residents' home. We are especially grateful to Larry, Barb, and Alec Bissen for donating their time and use of their enclosed trailer and pickup to bring all the baskets to Stacyville. Also we are so thankful that the Kreidermacher Family of Pork & Plants in Altura, Minnesota offers this fundraising opportunity. Year after year their flowers are exceptional. Watch for this fundraising sale again next year!

The SCNH Auxiliary Flower Basket sale is officially over. It's exciting to report that total sales are 107 flower baskets which is one more than last years total. That is absolutely amazing! The Auxiliary thanks all of you who purchased baskets. Several things have changed. 1. The CUF Lasagna supper for Sunday May 3 which is held in conjunction with the Flower Basket Sale has been cancelled. No need to explain why, we all know. We thank the CUF for all the support they have given to our nursing home in prior years. Perhaps next year will be a better year. 2. The flower baskets will be available as planned on Sunday, May 3, between the hours of 5 and 7. Location will be on Main Street rather than the church parking lot. You'll see us, You can pull up and we will bring you your order. Thank you all!

The Easter Care Bear came Saturday evening to help the Easter Bunny get ahead of the impending storm. She brought candy and eggs for all our residents. Her hands were full so she had to hang extra baskets from her ears! Easter greetings and prayers for good health to all of our residents and the dedicated SCNH staff who work diligently to keep them safe.

04/10/2020

Our administrator Kay would like you all to know how grateful she and all the staff are for all the support given during this stressful time. Whatever was needed, appeared as if by magic. At this time, no additional fabric is needed. More gowns are needed particularly XL sizes. If anyone is able to sew gowns but needs fabric, please call the nursing home. They have fabric for you to use. Every employee is wearing a gown and mask at all times so it takes lots. If you can make XL gowns, add about 4 inches to the length of the sleeves. And if you are able to add pockets, staff members would be supremely grateful. No additional masks are needed at this time. Also the supplier of hand sanitizer has ample supplies at reasonable prices so good news there.

Tuesday was an absolutely gorgeous sunny, warm spring day. Our residents soaked up the sun and the fresh air while still practicing social distancing. It's been a very long time since it's been possible to gather outdoors. It was a time of celebration with a glass of wine or a cold brew.

The SCNH Auxiliary has extended the deadline for the Hanging Flower Basket Sale to April 15. We have had an excellent response but can still accept more orders. Order forms are available at Thome's Grocery and in the lobby of the bank. Completed forms with payment can be deposited in the night time depository slot at the bank or at Thome's. These baskets are grown (not shipped in) at Pork and Plants in Altura, Minnesota, a true FAMILY business. Here are a couple photos of your baskets being grown. The baskets are started on benches and then hung up as they grow. There are 1500 10 inch baskets alone not counting the other size baskets. We get the 10 inch size. We will deliver for you in Stacyville.

Care Bear came back yesterday just to make sure everyone was doing OK on a bright sunny day. We know now she's a friendly bear. (Yes, she's a she.) From here she went on to check in with residents at some of the other care facilities in the county. We hope you are hibernating today, Care Bear.

We recently posted that we had set up a Skype account so families could speak with their loved ones. It appears that people would prefer Facetime. So our staff have been using their personal IPhones to connect family and residents. Would anyone have an IPad that he/she isn't using that you would be willing to loan or donate? Those little phone screens are difficult for the elderly to view. If you are able to help, please contact Melanie Gerbig, [email protected].

You've probably heard the Mr. Rogers' quote regarding scary times "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." Today the wonderful ladies from Paradise Pizza in Saint Ansgar brought flower bouquets for every one of our residents AND fresh caramel rolls from their bakery for all our staff AND their children who waved at our residents through the windows. What a day brightener for everyone! AND last week they did the same for Good Sam in STA and tomorrow they are doing the same for the nursing homes and assisted living facilities in Osage! They have taken on this project themselves but if you would like to be a helper and contribute to the cost, give Paradise Pizza a call or mail them a check. Today was a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

Warning! A very large black bear was seen today in the Stacyville area! Do NOT chase or approach, may be vicious. Was last seen around the Stacyville Nursing Home at lunchtime. May have been attracted to the aroma of home cooking! Oh no, appears to be trying to get in the dining room window! Oh wait, looks like he or she is holding a sign. "WE LOVE YOU AND CARE ABOUT YOU". No need to worry, it's a Care Bear letting our residents know we haven't forgotten them even though no visitors are allowed. Any guesses who could this be??

Thank you to all of you who responded to our request for material to make isolation gowns. We only needed to ask and we had an instant response. We are very grateful to Burgmeier Dentistry, Drs. Dan and Kyle Burgmeier, and Dr. John Lafferty for donating 42 scrub jackets. With a little modification, they will work well also for the needed gowns. We are most grateful to all of our staff for working through these unprecedented circumstances to keep our precious residents save. Each day is a new day of new regulations from the previous day. It is exhausting and stressful. Be sure to express your gratitude to all of our staff. We could not exist without every one of them.

March 19,2020 Update: EDIT TO ORIGINAL POST: Fabric is needed for ISOLATION gowns for staff, not needed for hospital gowns. We are looking for fabric suitable for sewing ISOLATION GOWNS. There is a tote outside the front door under the overhang in which to leave fabric you may have to donate. We are lining up volunteers to sew the garments in their homes but we need fabric first. Bed sheets will work. Thank you for helping.

March 18, 2020 Update: Meals on Wheels for the Stacyville community originate from our SCNH kitchen. We are still offering Meals on Wheels. Volunteers are not entering our building. If you are a volunteer, we do ask that you use the back entryway. The food will be ready for you there. Please DO NOT enter the building. When you return, please leave coolers in the entry way so they can be sanitized before bringing them back into the facility. This is for the protection of our residents. We are infection free and our goal is to keep it that way. If you have any questions, please call Kim Adams at 641-710-2215. WE ARE IN NEED OF DIETARY HELP! We have openings for Part Time Dietary Cooks and Aides with the possibility of leading to full time. Also talk to Kim Adams.
