Have you filled out your 2020 Census yet? If not, there is still time! The deadline has been extended until September 30th. There are so many reasons why it is important for you to be counted. The results of the census will help your community get the funding they deserve for major programs and services like schools, healthcare, public safety, libraries, and more. If there isn't an accurate count of people, your community could miss out on valuable funds they would otherwise get if everyone did fill out their census. Click below to find a link to fill your census out.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM!
Just a reminder that prize bags are ready for those who took part in the summer reading program! We have quite a few still here! They can be picked up any day of the week between 12-4 pm, just give us a call.

We are so thankful for such a supportive community and generous businesses each year we offer the program. This year the prize bags are a little bit smaller because I didn't ask local businesses to give prizes. I am hoping we can all give back to THEM for the support they have shown us through the years by patronizing their businesses now! I'm sure if I had asked the businesses they all would have happily given something for the kids, but this year I am hoping that we can turn the giving around. Times have been hard for some of them too, and it's our turn to offer our support if we can in whatever way we can, small or otherwise. We have had a lot of support from The Pizza Place, A&W, Valley Lanes, SV Kwik Trip and SV Casey's. Let's grab an ice cream cone or a pizza! Maybe a game of bowling! A root beer would taste great, too!

I would also like to send a HUGE thank you to the Spring Valley Area Community Foundation for ALL the wonderful books they provided funding for so we could GIVE the kids brand new and current reads again this year! What a great way to start and end our program-with free books. The Foundation has been a long time supporter of the Library's programs and we are so thankful for their help in making these kids feel special. We are proud to have such an involved and active group doing good things for our kids right here in our small community.

WEEK 5 of the Summer Reading Program! We will have our last virtual storytime with Chelsey for the program coming up, and grab and go bags are available all week from 12-4 pm. The storystroll is up in the lawn and boy is it a funny one. Be sure you get your reading log cards turned in by July 31st to get a prize bag! It's okay if you didn't get everything done-as long as you did the best you could that's good for us. Remember to put your name on it, and you will get it back in your bag.
One more thing....if you have pictures of any of your completed crafts, any of the activities you did that were part of our program that you would be okay with sharing on FB please send them to me at [email protected]. I would like to put together a slide show of all the things these kids did!

This Way, Charlie SRP Week 4

Week 4! I have NOT forgotten about storytime this week! Here it is! Chelsey is reading "This Way, Charlie" by Caron Levis and Carlos Santoso. This happens to be one of my FAVORITE new books of all time. It's a little longer story, but it is actually a great one for kids and adults alike. I hope you like it as much as I do. If you watch it, drop a comment and let me know what you liked about it! Read with permission from Publisher Harry N. Abrams.

Sometimes, people leave a legacy that will continue for years to come. That is what Don Rose left at the library. His love of reading and helping will be shared with kids for years to come.
Please, those of all ages, come and enjoy the story strolls that we will be displaying in his memory. If you don't know what a story stroll is, come to the library's front lawn and find out! There will be a new one each Monday in remembrance of Don and his contributions to the library and our community. We have one up now and it will be replaced with a new story for the next 4 Mondays. Bring your families and friends. Stroll through and read a story... Funding was provided by memorials for Don Rose, and additional supplies were donated by Jason Glaser, a friend and classmate of Jenny's. Jason, a MN author and family man stepped up to purchase equipment and supplies that helped make this entire project possible. We thank him for his kindness towards our library and community.

We are so thankful for the continued support from the Spring Valley Area Community Foundation in all that we do. Their generous contribution will help keep us safer as we move towards offering more services. THANK YOU!

Through the generous support of our donors and partnering with SMIF, we are proud to share the Spring Valley Public Library recently was approved to receive a grant through the COVID-19 Relief Fund.

The grant will support their additional needs for cleaning and sanitizing items due to COVID-19; and it will be used specifically for sneeze guards, masks and cleaning supplies. The staff continues to serve the public through curb-side check-out and continues to be available for checking out items.

From their application, the library was once a place primarily for just checking out books has become a center for members of the community to gather, read, children to explore, parents to find resources, entertainment, art and cultural programming, learning, computer use, and early and later literacy support. There has been a summer reading program each summer for over 17 years, with various program themes and levels of involvement and activities.
and has serving our communities for over 100 years! The Foundation has supported many of their summer programs and know reading at a young age is very valuable.

We appreciate all the work the library staff is doing to help our communities! Check out a book today! You'll be glad you did! 📚😀❤️
