Could Covid-19 Be treated with Nuclear Medicine? After a conversation with my wife she mentioned using UV light to decontaminate, this sparked my interest I was curious what wave length was sufficient to kill viruses. It appears that 200-280nm is needed to kill viruses and bacteria. I also came across an article that mention that the ebola virus was very radiosensitive. I then thought what if it's possible to achieve this intravenously with the use of a radiopharmaceutical. At first my interest was the lungs but I later have decided that the heart, liver, and spleen would be of interest, in theory with you could accumulate and radio-isotope to these organs the blood would have to pass through these organs and if the emission was strong enough its may kill the virus by gamma emission. I also thought the isotope should be tagged with a sulfur colloid or micro-albumin colloid which are commonly used in liver-spleen imaging. These are currently are tagged with Tc99m which has 140 keV and is a decays by beta emission and is used in diagnostic imaging. My questions are is there a better fit isotope to be used and is there any support of organ dosimetry that will support my theory. I am just a concerned nuclear medicine technologist that is wanting to help. Lance Wilkins R.T.(R)(N)(CT) CNMT NMTCB

On this anniversary of 9/11, I am reminded of the utter strength of those around me in our clinic in NY as we continued our jobs when all we wanted to do was curl into a ball and pretend nothing was happening. In the ensuing days, we had difficulties getting isotope, but the patients understood, there were no complaints. Those of us who lived and carried that horror with us, we knew that setbacks were just small things compared to what we had witnessed. I salute my fellow technologists who work through trauma in order to provide care to their patients, no matter the circumstances.
