Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Welcome to the official National FCCLA page! Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a nonprofit national Career and Technical Student Organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private school through grade 12.

We love being able to share the passion that our advisers have for FCCLA with everyone. Today we share Lori Henry's FCCLA story!

"My passion for FCCLA began in high school (Farmington, MN) where I was an active member for 6 years. I remember getting hooked right away with going to the district meeting in the fall and then the state meeting in the spring. We had an active chapter with district and state officers, too. I enjoyed all the service projects we did. One fun event was the Holiday Scandinavian-themed dinner we always did each December as a fundraiser.

Being in FCCLA also sparked my interest to pursue a career in Home Economics (now Family and Consumer Sciences) at Mankato State University. While at Mankato State I was involved in the Home Economics Association and Phi Upsilon Omicron, which continued my interest in service projects and leadership. After graduating college, I was able to be the adviser for one year at the high school where I graduated from (Farmington, MN). Then I was the adviser at Brownton, MN for 7 years and now at Spring Lake Park High School, MN for 29 years ( 37 years advising).

I enjoy being an adviser because I see each member grow as individuals. FCCLA is a great organization for ALL students to be individuals, work together to accomplish projects in their school and community, and develop those important leadership and life skills."

Get to know Michele Lindquist!

I graduated with a degree in Home Economics from the University of Northern Iowa and had very little knowledge regarding FCCLA. My high school did not offer FCCLA and it was not part of my college curriculum. Fortunately, I was able to student teach in Blackduck Minnesota with Shirley Deno, where I had my first experience with FCCLA. Shirley is very passionate about FCCLA and was an amazing mentor who provided me with a solid foundation so I could continue with FCCLA when I had my first teaching job, which was in a small community in Butterfield, MN. I taught and advised FCS & FCCLA for one year before moving to Kasson-Mantorville High School where I have been for the past 26 years! When I started my career at Kasson-Mantorville there was a small FCCLA chapter, with some very dedicated students. With a lot of hard work and encouragement, we have been able to grow and establish a very strong FCCLA chapter. We have had numerous area officers and 15 state officers over the past 26 years; and are very excited to have our first National FCCLA Officer this year.

Why be an FCCLA adviser? A better question is why not! FCCLA is a dynamic student organization and provides my students with endless opportunities. Through FCCLA students are able to explore a variety of career options and are given multiple opportunities to challenge themselves and step outside of their comfort zone in a safe environment. So many of the FCCLA STAR Events and national programs align perfectly with my FCS curriculum. I have found that integrating FCCLA STAR Events into my classroom has generated student interest in FCCLA, it provides them with the realization and confidence that they can plan and present their project, which sparks their interest and encourages them to pursue other aspects of FCCLA. The connections and network my students develop through FCCLA help them achieve their goals and dreams. There is nothing more rewarding as an adviser than having a former member text, email or stop by to tell you how the skills and experiences they received through FCCLA has helped with a college project, a med school interview, or in their current career. So when people ask me why I advise FCCLA, the answer is easy - it is a great way to help our youth realize their true potential and strive to achieve their goals and dreams!

Good work & great job👍👍
If a student earned a Go for the Red Award last year(19-20) can they apply again this year with different new members recruited? It says the same student cannot apply twice. Does that mean two years or twice applying in the same year?
Does anyone have a Google slide or PowerPoint created to show the Competitive Events available to prospect members?
Can we download the videos in our backpack from VNLC??
Has anyone created a chapter officer application in Google Forms? Care to share? We have to be digital this year. I am new to Google Classroom.
Is there a google form for member forms that I can have my members fill out? I was thinking/hoping they will fill the online form out and I can upload an excel sheet for the chapter membership roaster. #distancelearning2020
Looking forward to visiting with the virtual conference attendees! If any questions about fashion programs- feel free to join the chat session 1-3 PM July 7-8 or email them [email protected]
Happy Tuesday!! Looking for a good rubric for evaluating cooking labs.
Check out the free FCS summer webinar series from Realityworks at www. realityworks.com/resources/webinars!
Question about Virtual Star Events at Nationals: Can the students present using Screencastify - it can see their presentation and web cam of themselves talking about it in a portion of the screen then upload to youtube?
Where can I find the logos on the new website. I always have my students brand their flyers and in the past they could just go to the website, drag, drop, and go. I am struggling today.
