Dear RYA Tackle Families,
We hope everyone is doing well during these difficult times. I know we miss all our youth sports!
We are preparing to open tackle registration in the very near future! Once open, please register your child but DO NOT pay the registration fee right now. While we are still unsure if a fall tackle season will happen, we want to be prepared either way.
Assuming the season goes forward, we will collect registration payments as we hand out equipment later this summer.
Once registration is officially open, we will send out an email to announce it.
Thank you all and GO SEAHAWKS!
Dear RYA Families,
I hope everyone is continuing to stay safe.
We are still waiting for additional information from FCPS, FCYFL and the Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services as it relates to our ability to participate in sports this fall.
Registration has not been opened yet but it will be opened as soon as we get the green light.
We are fully preparing ourselves as if we will have sports but we want to know your thoughts on the situation.
What concerns and questions do you have pertaining to returning to play?

The Be AMYazing! Reston Youth Triathlon was inspired by Amy Boyle and her “never give up” attitude, and that is why we have decided to proceed with the triathlon this year but with a twist! While we won’t be able to hold the triathlon in person this year, like many things these days, we will be doing it virtually with the Be AMYazing! 2020 Virtual Duathlon.

What does a Virtual Race mean?
Instead of a triathlon we will be holding a virtual duathlon where racers will complete a run-bike-run. Parents will determine where their children will complete the race and set-up the course according to the distances on our website. Racers will choose their own day and time to complete the race, but it must be completed sometime between May 10th and 17th and then share a finish line photo or report your times on this Facebook Event page. We will provide a race shirt, medal, and 10th anniversary commemorative headband to registered racers that will be distributed at a later party date.
--New 15 to 18 year-old age group
--New Family Relay Team category that is open to any age
Registration fee will be $40 (same as early bird) for individuals and $60 for Family Relay Team.
We will provide:
--A Design-Your-Own Race Bib
--Information on social media (Facebook, Instagram and TikTok) and in our newsletter on weekly challenges and training goals.
--Weekly raffle drawings
--Racer shirt, medal and 10th commemorative anniversary headband to be provided at a later party
The duathlon course segments are detailed on our webpage under Event Info, http://www.restonyouthtri.org Parents will determine where the racers will complete the course. For each of the 3 segments, Run-Bike-Run, the racer can decide if they want to complete the distance or the time duration. Visit our website, http://www.restonyouthtri.org for more course details.
Come run Reston Youth Triathlon on May 10 with me.
Missing sports? Chase is, he’s watching the Madden tournament on twitch... 🏈💚💙
Kids have a lot of energy during the day? Don't want them playing video games or watching other people play video games all day long? Try At Home PE. You can get into the fun as well. Because it's important to stay active.

💙IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT SPRING 2020💚
On Monday, Governor Northam decided to close all Virginia schools for the remainder of the school year. Unfortunately, that means all extracurricular programs, athletic programs, and community use activities are canceled through the remainder of the academic year, as well. We regretfully will have to comply with this directive and cancel our spring sports, including flag football and cheer programs. We ask for your patience as we process refunds. We anticipate all refund checks will be mailed in the next 14 business days.
As always, we appreciate your commitment to the organization and your patience in this unprecedent time. Our spring programs are our largest, so we will need everyone’s help to ensure we are able to have fall sports. Donations are always welcome. Be safe, follow the CDC’s guidance, and we look forward to seeing everyone shortly.
The safety and health of our student-athletes is our number one priority. We take our
guidance from FCPS, so all activities (including Saturday’s Flag assessments) are
cancelled until April 12, 2020.
Hopefully, after April 12th, we will pick the seasons up where we left off. As always, we appreciate your patience and understanding. The plan is to push the schedule back accordingly, but we will reevaluate after April 12th, if necessary.
We will continue to follow the guidance of FCPS and other professional entities as we closely monitor the situation. We are advising all our families to follow the guidelines set by the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Virginia Department of Health, and the Fairfax County Health Department.
It is our hope that we will be able to resume our spring seasons and provide our families
with an exciting, fun season of Flag Football and Cheer that you have come to expect
General Items as Provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:
1. Practice good hygiene and frequently wash your hands. Encourage your friends and
family to do the same.
2. Avoid contact with people who are sick.
3. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
4. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
5. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surface
Stay safe and we will see you soon,

Boys and Girls ages 5 - 14 we are your go to organization for cheer in the greater Reston area.
It doesn’t matter what experience level you are. Our coaches will help the newest to cheer learn the basics in a safe and fun environment. Veteran cheerleaders will be able to advance their skills as they head to high school.

Happy Friday everyone
I hope all of the 8th graders that are interested in playing freshmen football have linked up with South Lakes Head Coach Jason Hescock. They are doing weight lifting and conditioning sessions already.
If you haven't or would prefer not to jump into the fray just yet, I strongly encourage you to get in a workout or 10 with Martino Savage, owner/trainer of The Elite Athletic Program. He is the go to guy for sports performance training. And showing up in August for the first day of practice out of shape won't help at all.
RYA Spring 2020 Flag Football is fast approaching.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone for another great season.

Dear RYA Families,
Today is the Last Day to Register at the Early Bird Rate!!
Please note, RYA Flag Football is a co-ed, non-contact flag football league designed for boys and girls aged 5-17. Teams are grouped by age categories and every effort is made to keep the league fun and competitive by assessing the players and dividing the teams evenly. All teams will practice a maximum of two (2) hours a week followed by a game on Saturday. (All Spring flag practices and games will be at the Langston Hughes turf field.)
Just a reminder that the ‘early bird’ special of $90, will expire today, Friday, January 17th. The regular $100 registration fee will apply to all registrations completed after Friday, January 17th. To ensure a spot is reserved for your child, we ask you to register now. You can register online here.
Reston Youth Association is a non-profit, all volunteer organization and we rely on the tremendous support of our community to operate our programs. We are currently seeking volunteers for the following positions:
Head Coach and Assistant Coaches
All head coaches receive one free registration (for their own child), based on the # of teams they coach for the Spring 2020 season. For example, if you are head coach of two (2) teams this season and you have two (2) children – then both of your children will play for free this season.
All head coaches must attend a mandatory coach meeting to review RYA league expectations and flag rules (TBD).
Theresa and I are excited and looking forward to a fun-filled season. Please contact us at [email protected] or [email protected] if you have any questions/concerns.
Angela and Theresa
