New study looks at post-COVID-19 emerging disease in children

A new case series published in the journal Radiology examines the spectrum of imaging findings in children with the post-Covid-19 inflammatory condition known in the U.S. as Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C).

The array of findings includes airway inflammation and rapid development of pulmonary edema, coronary artery aneurysms, and extensive intra-abdominal inflammatory changes.

In April 2020, Evelina London Children’s Hospital in London, UK, experienced a surge of children with a multi-system hyper inflammatory syndrome.
...
“Our hospital saw an unprecedented cluster of children presenting with MIS-C, a new hyper inflammatory syndrome in children related to the current Covid-19 pandemic — the recognition of which led to a national alert,” said the study’s lead author, Shema Hameed, M.B.B.S., consultant pediatric radiologist at Evelina London Children’s Hospital.

In recent weeks, a multisystem hyper inflammatory condition has emerged in children in association with prior exposure or infection to SARS-CoV-2.

We so wish we could have made this announcement as we usually do: together, in the same city, in the same room, applauding each other's accomplishments.
Because that is not possible this year, we hope the 2020 SPR Research & Education Foundation Grant Recipients can hear our virtual, but enthusiastic, applause:

05/20/2020

Congratulations to the ACR leadership and staff for convening a 100% virtual #ACR2020 Meeting. SPR members were brilliantly served at the ACR meeting by our ACR Councilor, Dr. Beverley Newman, and Alternate Councilor, Dr. Susan John.
Drs. Newman and John co-chaired the virtual Pediatric Radiology Zoom caucus meeting on Saturday – with over 45 members participating. (Pictures below - some participants camera-shy!)
On Sunday and Monday, they represented the interests of the Pediatric Radiology Community and our patients by participating in the Reference Committee open sessions and speaking for the approval, amendment or rejection of ACR-SPR collaborative practice parameters and Policy Resolutions.
Because the practice parameters being considered for approval covered the entire practice of radiology, Drs. Newman and John were assisted in this effort by subject-area experts from the SPR Clinical Committees:

Thanks to these members for offering to stand by (and wait) for a phone call this past Sunday and Monday:
Richard Barth, MD
Govind Chavhan, MD
