Friends of Reston

Friends of Reston Established in 1999, Friends of Reston for Community Projects, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization in Reston Virginia that supports Reston Association through charitable, educational and scientific activities.

Friends of Reston is a volunteer run 501c3 that raises funds to support Reston Association in bringing charitable projects to the community. Our projects include camp and tennis scholarships, park improvements, environmental education, Helping Homes, tree planting and habitat restoration. Friends of Reston led the capital campaign to build the LEED Gold Nature House, a year-round environmental education building at the Walker Nature Center.

In celebration of the natural connection between birding and photography, the Walker Nature Center will host the Audubon Photography Awards Traveling Exhibition now through Feb. 26. Visitors of all ages will enjoy a display of the winning photos as well as learn about local birdlife in Reston.

Mark your calendars for April 13 if you plan to break a sweat in the Nature Center 5K Run and Walk. Registration for the annual run -- now in its 16th year -- recently opened. The price increases by $5 for kids and adults on Monday, April 1. (Currently, it is $25 for adults and $15 for kids.)

We hope you will come hear Reston's State of the Environment Report tomorrow, Wed. March 13 at the Walker Nature Center, 7 PM. Project Director Doug Britt is an excellent speaker, and it such an important topic.

Do you care about Reston's environment? Do you know about RASER? Reston Association's Environmental Advisory Committee produces a comprehensive Reston Annual State of the Environment Report. Come hear its Project Director Doug Britt present the latest findings and recommendations at the Walker Nature Center on Wed., March 13, 7-8:30 PM. RASER reflects more than 1,000 hours of research by volunteer scientists, citizen scientists and RA staff.
