Raleigh Little Theatre (RLT) is a nonprofit organization using theatre to enrich, educate, entertain, and engage volunteers, students, and audiences of all ages. RLT is one of the oldest continuously operating community theatres in the country, offering entertainment, education and community programs year- round. In 1936, a group of passionate local performers joined forces with technical workers from the Federal Theatre Project to begin a community theatre in Raleigh. This nation-wide movement of little theatres focused on intimate, non-commercial theatre that would employ artists, create relevant art, and provide entertainment for low-income families. The commitment to accessibility defined the organization early on and continues today, with a focus on keeping ticket prices affordable, choosing accessible while thought-provoking theatrical works and opportunities for anyone in the community to be involved by working onstage or behind the scenes. While Raleigh has grown by leaps and bounds over the last 78 years, RLT has grown as well in size and stature. RLT produces eleven fully-staged shows yearly, reaching 40,000 people. In 2007, RLT was inducted in to the Raleigh Hall of Fame. In 2012, RLT received the Community Theatre Award from the North Carolina Theatre Conference. In 2014 RLT the N&O said RLT’s production of Hairspray was “the best musical production this reviewer has seen.“ In 2016, RLT won the Independent Weekly’s award for Best Live Theatre in the Triangle. RLT’s six-acre site is an urban jewel that includes two indoor theatres, an outdoor amphitheatre and the exquisite Raleigh Rose Garden. Parking is free in our private lot. All of our shows are performed at RLT, located near NC State University and just off Hillsborough Street, next to Cameron Village. RLT is easy to find whether you’re coming from downtown, the Beltline or I-40.

Mission: RLT is a welcoming community using theatre to enrich, educate, entertain and engage volunteers, students, and audiences of all ages.

Sheila Denn Obituary - Cary, NC

We are sad to share one of our extraordinary costume shop volunteers, Sheila Denn, recently passed away following a long illness.

Shelia volunteered in the shop for several years and more recently, when she couldn't make it in, would attend shows and events as an audience member. She always sought to uplift those around her and had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor!

She will be greatly missed. Please keep Shelia's family and friends in your thoughts during this tough time.

Celebrate the life of Sheila Denn, leave a kind word or memory and get funeral service information care of Brown-Wynne Funeral Home.

This solo-play, written and performed by Mike Wiley, is a living monument to those remarkable young men and women of various races, religions and backgrounds who rose to face the dangers of fighting for just and equal treatment for all.

Thank you again for supporting us this #GivingTuesday. There are still a few hours left to donate, so keep giving if you can! It has been a tough year, but we are looking forward to the year ahead.

To close out 2020, we’re presenting a one-actor holiday play, RLT's This Wonderful Life. In the new year, we will bring you virtual performances of Mike Wiley’s “Breach of Peace,” two nights of live storytelling, Caryl Churchill’s “A Number,” and more! Your contributions make all these events possible - we couldn’t do it without you!

During this extraordinarily tough year, RLT’s budget has been cut in half, and there is no certainty about when we will be able to offer full capacity, in-person performances and classes again. Without this income, we are counting on your generosity to help ensure that we are able to offer virtual theatre classes to help thousands of students round out their virtual school curriculum, provide different forms of live theatre and entertainment that are so critically needed right now, and sustain us through this tough time in a way that allows us to be ready to reopen our doors to audiences as soon as it is safe to do so.

You have already helped us reach an incredible milestone by donating over $10,000 today on #GivingTuesday. Let’s see how high that number can climb! We can’t wait to bring you more live, in-person entertainment like “Balloonacy” (set pictured, photo by Kevin Roberge) in the new year. We know you loved visiting the Stephenson Amphitheatre, and we hope to present more shows outside in the spring. Your donations today help make outdoor productions possible! #GivingTuesdayRLT

I am wondering why your website says nothing about having to have a ticket for babies? Last night my SIL was forced to buy a 28 dollar ticket for a three month old that slept through Cinderella. Very unpleasant surprise. At least update your website with this information. Ridiculous.
