The Grey Muzzle Organization improves the lives of at-risk senior dogs by providing funding and resources to animal shelters, rescue organizations, sanctuaries, and other nonprofit groups nationwide.
In June 2020, Grey Muzzle awarded a record $510,000 in grants to 64 animal welfare organizations representing 29 states, a 22% increase in total grant awards over the previous year. This brings the national nonprofit’s total grant funding to nearly $2.5 million since its inception in 2008. The new grantees, selected from among 288 applicants, will use the funds to help save and improve the lives of at-risk senior dogs in their communities. These grants will provide critically needed medical and dental treatment; foster and hospice care; adoption promotions; and programs that help keep old dogs in good homes. In the past year, our grantees have provided lifesaving services to more than 2500 senior dogs. Of the 22 grantees whose programs focused specifically on adoption, on average, 90% of the senior dogs they helped with Grey Muzzle funding were adopted during the grant period. The Grey Muzzle Organization is grateful to the more than 2,100 individuals and businesses that made donations during the past year. Donations are critical to our success, and thanks to our generous donors, revenues increased in FY 2020 to over $1,000,000.
Mission: We envision a world where no old dog dies alone and afraid.

Last call to register for our awesome webinar on Monday, Oct. 26 at 1 ET with senior-dog-loving authors David Rosenfelt and Laura Coffey! David and his wife Debbie have helped rescue more than 4,000 dogs over the years. Many of those rescued dogs have been large and geriatric — like Boomer, pictured here from the book My Old Dog: Rescued Pets with Remarkable Second Acts!
At our webinar, David will describe just how meaningful and important it is to help senior animals in need ... and our Grey Muzzle advisory board member Laura will explain what she was doing crawling around in the mud with Boomer while working on the "My Old Dog" book! (Short answer: She was trying to help veteran pet photographer Lori Fusaro get the perfect shot!) 🙂
The winner of yesterday's 'Caption This' contest is Audrea Donnelly! She wrote, 'Old dogs are like flowers. They are only here for a short time, but fill your heart with beauty.' What a beautiful sentiment! Definitely made us smile. Congratulations, Audrea!
Keep your eyes on our social media, as we're launching another fun contest soon 🐾
Let’s have some fun to end the week! Caption this photo in the comments below. At the end of the day we’ll pick a winner to receive a Grey Muzzle 2021 calendar! Ready, set, go! #CaptionThis #FridayFunDay #Mustlovedogs
Times are notably tough right now. Senior dogs can be an amazing addition to those dealing with loneliness, depression, and lack of physical activity. Check out this blog post about the health benefits of having a senior dog, and then let us know how your senior companion has helped you in 2020.
Those of use that have a senior dog in our lives already know that they add to our quality of life in many ways: loyal companionship, unconditional love, and a calming energy. However, the benefits go beyond making each day better.
Eight-year-old Milan has spent most of her life as a backyard dog, so it’s taken her a while to adjust to life indoors with her foster home. She’s done well and is now ready for a forever home. Available with Live Love Animal Rescue in Southern California. http://ow.ly/yRSs30rfye3
Have you checked out our upcoming and past recorded webinars? We have a variety of topics including euthanasia, pain management and behavior issues all presented by dynamic subject matter experts. https://www.greymuzzle.org/events-and-webinars
You guys, this dog is practically perfect. First, his name is Hagrid. You really can't get more perfect than that. If you need more, how about his ears? They're fabulous. A mature guy with perfect ears & a perfect name. Hagrid is looking for love in SoCal. https://www.greymuzzle.org/senior-spotlight/hagrid
You don't want to miss this! 'When you have two dogs, getting a third is a big deal. But when you have 26 and you get a call saying that a golden retriever is going to be put down at 3 o’clock, you take a 27th.' That’s a quote from David Rosenfelt, a mystery novelist and all-around great guy who, together with his wife Debbie Myers, helped find homes for more than 4,000 dogs facing the end at crowded animal shelters. Grey Muzzle Advisory Board Member LauraCoffey will interview Rosenfelt during a special webinar all about the joys of senior dog rescue. Please join us Monday, October 26, 1pm ET. https://www.greymuzzle.org/events-and-webinars

We know "somewhere out there" is Fievel's forever home! He's a handsome, 9-year old Collie who does not let a disability stop him. He is well adjusted, but he is blind. We need your help! Marvin is a formerly chained, starved, seizure-ridden and paralyzed senior dog. After receiving surgery and months of TLC with Albert's Dog Lounge, Marvin is looking for a new foster home. A potential foster should be used to working with special needs dogs. Marvin is currently located in WI and transport is available to help get him where he needs to be. Please contact Jody at [email protected]. We are very excited to bring you The Grey Muzzle movie!
You--our Grey Muzzle Family--have once again astonished us with your incredible generosity. Because of you, we awarded a record-setting $419,000 in grants to 62 animal welfare organizations in 2019, bringing our total to nearly $2 million since our founding in 2008. Your support has allowed our Bed Fund to thrive, providing comfort to hundreds of dogs in 44 shelters nationwide.
With your support, we have accomplished much in the past year:
We are working to ensure the sustainability of Grey Muzzle. We launched our Legacy Circle, a new opportunity for our supporters to make a planned gift to Grey Muzzle that will last far beyond their lifetime. By including Grey Muzzle in your estate plans, you help ensure that we’ll be here--committed to the welfare of senior dogs--for many years to come.
We engaged children in our mission. Third graders at Discovery Elementary School in Virginia raised nearly $700 to help senior dogs they’d never even met. We honored their efforts by launching the “Discovery Challenge” to match the children’s donation and fund a new grant inspired by their love of senior dogs and named in their honor. The Discovery Challenge Grant was awarded to Lucky Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation.
We were there during challenging times. When Hurricanes Florence and Michael hit, we offered emergency funds to grantees who opened their doors to displaced senior dogs from Florida and the Carolinas.
We are contributing to knowledge about the welfare and care of senior dogs. A grant from Maddie’s Fund has allowed us to conduct an in-depth study of the lifesaving work of Grey Muzzle grantees. Study findings will identify best and promising programs and practices and inform our grant process, ultimately improving the well-being and increasing the adoption of senior dogs.
Thank you for being such an instrumental part of our efforts on behalf of senior dogs. We hope you will continue to support our shared mission to ensure every senior dog lives out his or her golden years, months, weeks or days surrounded by love.
My dog training company is doing a step challenge and if my team wins we are donating our money to your organization!!
If anyone you know goes to our FB page and likes it then you can screen shot your steps DAILY and donate them to team Holy Walkimolies so we can win!
Hi! Amazing job you are doing here!
My wife and I are attempting to start a nonprofit very similar to yours in Colorado. We are currently still researching the process of starting a 501c3 and are reaching out to those who may have advice, resources, and those who could eventually become potential partners.
We thank you for your hard work, big hearts, and time.
Hope to hear from you soon.

My main man ❤️. Jericho gained his wings May 15 /2020. He would of been 12 years June 8th /2020.
She's still after all these years on my mind if not every day then at least every week.
She was Elsa, named after Elsa the Lion.
I drove around three hours into the middle of nowhere to get her.
She was 10 weeks old. The last pup, cause she was the smallest but a perferct size for me.❤
She jumped right into my arms when we pulled up into the yard and stayed there for the next 14.5 years untill I had to let her go..
She was the most lovable, extraordinary, weird and beautiful dog known to man kind and I will miss her to the end of my days.

I have 2 large bags of senior blue buffalo chicken I would like to donate. How do I get them to you?
