Triangle Kendo Iaido - Raleigh Triangle Kendo & Iaido is a non-profit dojo dedicated to promoting Japanese sword martial arts of kendo and iaido throughout the local community

TKI is organized and registered as a federally registered non-profit entity with desire to bring kendo practices as close as possible to the communities in the Triangle area. A member of the SouthEastern US Kendo Federation (SEUSKF) and the All US Kendo Federation (AUSKF)

Mission: The purpose of the Triangle Kendo and Iaido shall be: •To provide an optimal environment for its members to strive for mental, physical, spiritual, and cultural growth through practicing the arts of kendo and Iaido. •To sponsor general practices in regular intervals for the membership. •To provide an avenue to competitive kendo at local, regional, national, and international levels for members who may be so inclined. •To coordinate membership services and operations. •To seek, develop and maintain common standards. •To promote the arts of kendo and iaido throughout the local community.

Began Kendo in junior high school at Hiroshima and continued in high school at Takamatsu in Japan. After moving to US, joined Triangle Kendo & Iaido in 2007, where has been participating in SEUSKF tournaments.

General information

Trial Practice Information Location & Schedule : Same as regular practice. See above. Clothing : Comfortable clothing Equipment : A shinai (bamboo sword) and a bokuto (wooden sword) If you don’t have one, you should be able to borrow one from TKI members during practice. Shinai size recommendation : size 39 (120cm) for over 18 years old, size 37-38 (114cm-117cm) for 12-18 years old, size 36-28(92cm-112) for under 12 years old (Based on shinai specifications for competition according to International Kendo Federation regulation) No prior martial art experience required You do not have to be a university student to participate Cost (no changes since 2003) Monthly dojo due : $25 ($15 for 17 or younger) Annual TKI membership due : $24 ($12 for 17 or younger) TKI Initiation fee : $20 (one time)
