We are a dedicated group of volunteers with common goals: rescuing animals, finding the best fitting homes for each animal, and educating the public on animal health and responsible pet ownership. We are one of the few groups that will accept FIV+ into the program, and provide education and support for owners and finders of FIV or FeLV+ cats.
Mission: Through rescue and education, Calvin's Paws promotes the adoption of cats, including seniors, disabled and those with special needs while providing leadership to facilitate NO KILL communities.

Linus and Lucy just turned 9 years old. They are born of a feral mama who could not be an inside cat, and so they were born in a barn. All of their siblings were outside cats. Theyāve all been indoor and outdoor and would do well as either. Even a life as barn cats would be better than having to be isolated like they do here.
They are both large (vet thinks a Maine Coon mix). They were both spayed & neutered at the Pitt County spay program (Spay Today). All of their shots and vet records are there or with Dr. Richmond Vet Outpatient Clinic.
Linus thinks heās in charge, since heās also the biggest. He is mostly white with black spots and a raccoon/striped tail. Heās very lovey. His favorite spot to be pet is his head. He is prone to UTIās so we add in wet food for him.
Lucy is actually in charge. Sheās mostly white with black and orange spots. She doesnāt get along with Olive (the other cat). She wants lovings on her terms, but is very sweet when youāre the person she likes.
Olive was a stray kitten found in August 2013. We donāt know much about her past. She is much smaller than the other two. She is mostly a tabby- looking cat with a white collar. She would prefer to be by herself or with her and the dogs. Kind of aloof, but is a lap kitty once she warms up to you. She was also spayed at Spay today, but had a lot of complications so sheās also been seen at Dr. Richmondās office, as well as Faithful Friends Vet Hospital in Grifton NC. She is up to date on shots as well.
ANNA and ELSA
These lovely ladies are looking for a forever home! Anna and Elsa are 6 years old, spayed, microchipped, and good with children. They both have bunny-soft fur perfect for petting! They are littermates but could be adopted separately.

UPDATE: It's not cancer! The biopsy results came back as benign. YAY!
Send good vibes for Richmond! He had surgery on Saturday for what was supposed to be a hernia repair, but turned out to be a mass in his abdomen. The mass was removed and the biopsy results should be back by the end of the week. In the meantime, his foster mom is taking EXCELLENT care of him as he recovers. Get better soon, Richmond!

The White House is about to get its first rescue dog! That house has seen its share of pets over the years, but never a rescue. Major was adopted from the Delaware Humane Association in 2018, and will be the first rescue dog to make its home at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. We hope his presence draws attention to rescue animals everywhere and encourages people to adopt, don't shop!

Moxie Ann Reagan is a 1.5 yr old female tabby (light brown and dark brown/black with stripes) and has a white belly and neck area. She has 3 legs (her right front arm is a bone appendage that is a birth defect). She is spayed, updated on all her shots, and is microchipped - her vet is Valley Animal Clinic in Mocksville, NC. Moxie's family and friends who live close by are doing everything they can to find her and get the word out.
On this #nationalcatday, we celebrate with the Cooper family the addition of their new kitten, Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, the newest First Pet of North Carolina. As many of you know, the Coopers' beloved dog Benjamin passed away recently. The very same day, Darcy was discovered at a nearby church and in need of a home. Kismet!

They say that when God closes a door, he opens a window.
On the very morning we lost our dear Ben, a tiny kitten was discovered crying underneath a nearby church. The person who found him could not keep him, and Hilary ran over to rescue him.
So this is what came through our "window." Meet Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcyāknown as "Darcy," our newest First Pet. His name was inspired by the Jane Austen novel "Pride and Prejudice."
Darcy is definitely mostly Siameseāquite vocal, the mouth of the South. Of course, he will never be "in want of a wife" because here at First Pets, we believe in responsible pet ownership, which includes spaying and neutering.
We can't wait for y'all to get to know Darcy. ā¤ļø

Your mid-day snack - biscuits by Freddy Purrcury!! How adorable is he??!! He is recovering from his Sunday neuter but still wants to snuggle on his foster dads lap.
Freddy Purrcury says Mondays are hard. Especially Mondays following a vet visit where you come home with fewer parts. He recommends snuggling up with your favorite blanket to make the day better.
Sherlock update - you may remember that he was covered in burs and motor oil and super skinny, living under cars. The amazing Susan Wilkie stepped in and transported him and his 2 kittens to rescue where the Taylor was a super hero and took them in to foster. To earn his keep, he is taste testing and being the unofficial spokescat for Vital Essential treats. He is a fan. He may have to make an extra run to Unleashed to get more!! And this incredibly handsome spokescat is looking for a home. We know everyone wants a dapper maine coon boy who is handsome enough to be a spokescat and model. He is super amazing sweet and that is because he is an FIV kitty. That means he was attacked by a cat that bit him so hard that it went into the muscle. He does not need extra care and can live with other cats. Update on the sweet "hit by car" black kitty that was at the shelter. He got his freedom ride to his new foster mom and is already at the vet. He has a name now: MacGyver. Unlike his namesake, he did not walk away from his accident unscathed - he has a wound that needs stitches, several broken teeth that must come out xrays to be taken. You can tell from the video that he he has some leg and shoulder issues to be addressed as well. He's staying to stay at the vet's office for some care (spa treatment we told him). One of our fosters has a neighbor with a stray cat that wandered up to his door. It appears to be a white un-neutered male with black markings maybe 1-2 years old. He canāt keep it as he has other cats but heās keeping it in his basement for the time being so itās out of the cold. The cat is skinny and hungry but otherwise seems in good health. Do we have anyone willing to foster this cat?
