Friends of Wake County Animal Center We are a 501c3 non profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for animals in our community and their human families. Disclaimer: This page is run solely by Volunteers of the Friends of Wake County Animal Center, NOT STAFF of the shelter.

This page has been created to promote the adoption and rescue of the animals at the center and is designed to be a positive outlet to support the shelter and it's efforts in the community. This is not meant to be a forum for negative comments about the shelter, the shelter staff or the former "owners" of any of the animals. Please keep your comments positive and focused on the animals in need. It is the hope of the Friends of WCAC Volunteers that, by expanding into the world of social media, we will create awareness in the community for adopting and rescuing pets from our local shelter as opposed to buying a pet. This effort should result in more precious lives saved from the Wake County Animal Center. We cannot help save the animals without you. We are their voice! I'm happy to report today was another huge success at our No Empty Bowl Project Pet Food Panty at Open Door Church in North Raleigh. We know times are hard for so many people right now; we also know that their pets are an integral part of their family and happiness. We want to ensure pets can stay in their homes and out of our shelters.

Thank you so much to all our supporters and donors who help make this event happen for our community.

Okay, you had me at "dog photo..."
But, I love these pictures for a million other reasons, and here are just a few of them:
1) Both dogs are rescues! The furry guy is from GSRA, and his name is Kilo. The shorter haired girl is Luna, and she is an alumna of WCAC (making that reason #2 to love it). And would you believe I remember her from 2016? (reason #3)
4) Their human, Danielle, is a great supporter of our charity, and she won this photo shoot in a reward raffle when she donated to the Johnson Subaru of Cary's Make a Dog's Day 2020 food drive for our No Empty Bowl Project! (Danielle also participated in our auction, winning a number of items--reason #5)
6) The talented photographer who took these photos donated her time/talents to our auction AND then donated two more sessions to the Subaru food drive raffle. Thank you, Sweet Ellie Photography for helping our charity and those folks who support us!

And voila, here you have it: A gorgeous photo shoot of two rescue dogs (one from WCAC) who are living their best lives with a cool mom who supports our charity, and meanwhile the photos were snapped by a photographer who has donated to us for various events. Do ya see all the goodness and all of the wins here?!?

Enjoy these gorgeous pups and the plentiful reasons to make all of us smile! #goodkarma #winning #allthegoodyoudocomesbacktoyou #givingmeamillionreasons

This year has been like no other. These past few months we have really focused our efforts on keeping animals out of our community shelter. With budget cuts our shelters are working with less so we are trying to prevent animals from ending up there. One of our big projects this year has been our No Empty Bowl Project which works to supply pet food to individuals in need. We have partnered with several local churches for distribution. Our biggest distribution happens at Open Door Church on the first and third Saturday of the month from 11am-12pm. The next distribution is Next Saturday Nov 21st and with it being before a Holiday we are anticipating a large need. If you would like to help us you can drop off food donations in our donation bins at Unleashed or you can purchase a needed item off our wishlist and it will be sent directly to us. Thank you so much for your continued support.

Our next Fundraiser kicks off Monday night! This one is for all the pet lovers because it's Dog Collars and there will be some kitty collars in there too!!! Who doesn't love to snag some cute gear for their pet right?

We have partnered with local handmade dog collar company Mutt Stuff to provide an awesome dog collar and accessory auction. The auction will include dog collars of all sizes including martingales, bowties, over the collar bandannas ( which can work for the kitties too) collar flowers, and even a kitty collar or two!

The album will be posted on Mutt Stuff's page, in the event, and here on our page Monday night starting at 8pm!

November is Adopt a senior Month. The following senior pet is available for adoption from Freedom Ride Rescue.

Hoyt originally came into the Wake County Animal Center and was in foster care but due to some medical issue so he is now with a rescue. Hoyt is a sweet boy who is looking for a low key home who appreciates the oldies but goodies.

May I introduce myself? I'm Hoyt and I am a dapper gentleman! I would sooo much like to find my true forever home where I can spend time with my humans and possibly fur siblings.

My ideal furever home would be a calm household - I don't like being bumped around (there are 3 other dogs in my foster home and I handle it well, but I don't really want to play with and they sometimes won't understand that I just want my peace). Like all seniors, I have a few medical needs that will have to be tended to!

Do you want to know what I like? Couches and dog beds, anything cozy and comfy... I enjoy belly rubs from people I am comfortable with people and I love butt scratches. I get very excited to be dried off with a towel- that's like getting a massage! If I'm feeling really wild I will occasionally play with toys and fetch. I don't like to share food and toys and enjoy slow strolls and sniffing around the yard. I am good with kids, but older kids may be best, as they need to be considerate about my pain issues..

I would soo like to have my very own bed next to my very own person in my final home! Think we could get along?! Apply online at Freedom-Ride.org to meet me!🐾🐾

November is Adopt a Senior Month. Chewy is senior available through one of our Rescue Partners Carolina Adopt-A-Bulls Rescue.

NOVEMBER IS ADOPT A SENIOR PET MONTH - Please share to help this older guy find his furever home!

This sweet boy is Chewy. He is an older boy but young at heart! He is such a sweetheart with so much love to give! He has been ever so patient in his search to find his forever home. He loved hanging out with one of our Jr. Volunteers at his photo shoot. (Don't worry - he did get some treats!) Even though he is older, he loves to go for long walks and hikes, but also loves to hang out and relax! We are so hopeful that this handsome hunk finds his forever people because he deserves it so very much! Two cats having a conversation

Cats are such amazing creatures! They have a robust array of dipthongs in their "language," and I always wonder what they are saying to each other-- and what they are saying to me!
Perhaps when I am thinking it is "Hello," it is more like, "Can you get me some more tuna, pleaaaaazze?!?"

To find your own fantastic feline, visit WCAC between the hours of 12 and 6 pm. They will fill your live with love and wonderment.

November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month. All month long we will be featuring senior pets in need of a home. For more info on the pets we feature please see the link to the rescue they are with.

Today's feature is Mason a 12 year old cat. Mason is Available for adoption from the SPCA of Wake County.

I'm the dapper gentleman named Mason and I can't wait to meet you. If you are looking for a mature cat that loves head scratches and catnip, you have found your match!
Cats? Probably- I lived with another cat my entire life. Dogs? No, thank you. Children? Possibly, but they will need to be gentle with me and respect my space. How did I get here? Surrendered to the Wake County Animal Center because I did not enjoy the company of the child in my previous home, adopted and returned when I was not the best fit.
Something extra? I may be a bit vision-impaired, but I don't let it slow me down one bit!
**I have tested positive for FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus), but the good news is I can still live a long normal cat life! Speak with an adoption specialist for more information.**

NOTE: Mason is NOT with our team he is available for adoption from the SPCA of Wake County

This pup was adopted on Monday and escaped in driveway of adopter. Lost in area of Falls of Neuse near Lafayette Village. Seeking people who can actively search. My email is [email protected], am coordinating social media so that new owners can be out searching. Dog has no name, adopted via Vet so there is no Rescue to get word out. Last sighting was late last night so we know dog has not been picked up by Animal Control (or anyone else).
Pinecrest/Fernwood, Raleigh Trying to find his owner. He runs up to me and cries to be pet but once you start petting him he growls and hisses. He has been hanging around my house for the past couple of weeks.
Yesterday we adopted 3 13-yr-old cat brothers whose human died. They have disappeared into our home and we are now referring to them as our ghost cats. During the night they used both litter boxes, left footprints on the toilet seat, opened cabinets in the bathroom and kitchen, used the scratching pad, and ate a lot of dry cat food. Hoping they will soon become secure enough to become visible and cuddly. Cats, Cats, everywhere, and not a cat to cuddle...
Do you know of any rescues that need blankets?
Is there any rule against adopting black cats on Halloween?
We have 3 boxes of Insulin Syringes. Can anyone here use them?
any way to find out info on the condition of or help needed for this poor pup? Johnny Bravo I think is his name...? it makes me so terribly sad seeing him in this pic.. :(
Please be advised that the WCAC refers callers to their web page to give information about their events. Their web page is not updated, and they were not interested in hearing it. The following event has been CANCELED even though it is still posted.
Found this little kitty last week and she has settled right into our home
Stray dog noted north of Garner in Raleigh on Cyrus near south Tryon road. Spitz type mix, brown, 50 lb size. Maybe chow/boxer. Has collar with a tag but won’t be caught. Dog friendly. People shy. Hair growing in on hip as if from recent surgery.
I am looking for a nice dog that is good with cats. A dog that doesn't need a yard, but will go for walks & outings to the dog park. A dog that will be content living in an apartment.
Found a lost dog on New Light Rd. In Raleigh near Falls Lake. Anyone missing this sweet girl? She's well taken care of. Please contact me if you have any details about who this girl belongs to.
