NC State Graduate Student Association

NC State Graduate Student Association Founded October 6, 1958, the NC State Graduate Student Association represents and supports the graduate student body of NC State. If you are a graduate student at NC State University then you are a member of the GSA!

The North Carolina State University Graduate Student Association (GSA) was formed on October 6, 1958 in order to give graduate students a forum for discussion and action about those events in the college community which affect them. As the years have passed, the GSA has grown in size and stature, and is currently considered by both administration and graduate students to be an integral part of the NCSU community. Approximately 70% of all graduate majors have an active GSA chapter, meaning that a representative from those majors regularly attends our meetings and participates in our committees. Our mission is to make the academic, professional, and social life of graduate students at NC State more rewarding and enjoyable, and we hope you will support us in our efforts to do so! In fall 2015, UGSA (UGSA) officially changed its name to Graduate Student Association (GSA).

Mission: The goals of the GSA, as stated in our constitution, are: * To provide a contact point for the administration for graduate student interests * To represent graduate students in interests which affect them * To disseminate important information to graduate students * To provide a forum for discussion of important issues * To provide services to the graduate student body

What do you think about the expectation for students to provide food at our defenses?

"A UCLA graduate school executive committee passed a policy July 29 preventing graduate students from catering food at their thesis defenses."

"The psychology department’s executive committee voted to end the tradition of students bringing food to their thesis defenses after a Science Magazine article brought the stresses this tradition caused for students to light, said Anna Lau, head of the UCLA psychology department executive committee and a psychology professor."

"“It’s money that they have to spend, which for me was one of the biggest factors because graduate students aren’t paid that much,” Wassum said. “To ask them to come to the table and also to bring food to faculty who make lots more money than them I thought seemed ridiculous.”"

Graduate students are mounting degrees of protest over ‘hidden fees’

If you have any concerns about student fees at NC State please reach out to [email protected]

"The total amount of fees charged by universities and colleges more than doubled in the 15 years ending in 2017, the last period for which the figure is available, even when adjusted for inflation."

Hey ladies - I have a fully furnished 2bd/2.5 bath townhome located in Northwest Raleigh (15-20 mins to campus) that I'm looking to rent out starting this summer. Each bedroom has their own full bathroom. I have one female who is a NCSU grad student who'd like to move in later this month already. Rent would be 750 for the open room which includes all furnishings (not utilities). No smoking, and prefer no pets. If interested, please DM me with your email address, ideal move in date & length of stay, so I can send more details, thanks!
