Newby wins Chief Justice race as recount set to begin

"Associate Justice Paul Newby won the closest race in the state as counties finished canvassing votes on Tuesday, defeating incumbent Chief Justice Cheri Beasley by just under 400 votes.

The contest will, however, go to a statewide recount in the coming days.

A win for Newby, who has served on the N.C. Supreme Court since 2004, would give Republicans a sweep of every statewide judicial race in the 2020 general election."

Businesses are closing forever as Cooper plays favorites - John Locke Foundation

"Back in September, a survey of Raleigh businesses conducted by Shop Local Raleigh found that 60 percent of small businesses in Raleigh were threatened with closure. That same month Lynn Minges, president of the NC Restaurant and Lodging Association, warned of a “closing tsunami” in the restaurant industry, also projecting “as many as 60% [of restaurants] say that they likely won’t survive another six months if relief doesn’t come fairly quickly.”

Those numbers are backed by a September 2020 report from Yelp, a platform-based company that provides information and consumer reviews about local businesses. Yelp found that over 60 percent of businesses that have closed since March will not reopen, and that restaurants and retail are hardest hit.

Yelp listed North Carolina businesses among the hardest hit in the nation."

Justice Alito: Pandemic Has ‘Resulted in Previously Unimaginable Restrictions on Individual Liberty’ | National Review

"Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito on Thursday said the coronavirus pandemic has “resulted in previously unimaginable restrictions on individual liberty” and warned that religious liberty is “in danger of becoming a second class right.”

Alito’s comments came during his virtual keynote speech to a conference of the conservative Federalist Society, in which the 70-year-old justice warned that the U.S. can’t allow the restrictions on personal liberty to continue after the pandemic has ended, noting that houses of worship have been treated particularly unfairly. Biden Pledges to Gut Religious Freedom Protections, Saying They Give 'Hate' a 'Safe Harbor'

"Joe Biden made no bones about it: If he wins the presidential election, he will gut religious freedom protections that allow faith-based homeless shelters, charities, and small business owners to act according to their consciences. Specifically, he will shove LGBT ideology down the throats of religious Americans in the name of fighting “discrimination.”"

Look what a mom can do...

The confirmation of Justice Amy Coney Barrett last night to the U.S. Supreme Court is a fulfillment of President Trump’s promise to appoint pro-life judges who will carry out the Constitution and laws as written, without contorting the law to reach a desired outcome.

There is no one more qualified to sit on the Supreme Court than Justice Barrett. In addition to her originalist and textualist judicial philosophy, what makes her so appealing is her sincere Christian faith and her devotion to her family as the most important thing in her life.

Having a mother of 7 serve in such a high-profile office is proof that women don’t need abortion to succeed in life. Perhaps this point is one of the most beautiful things about her confirmation that gets overlooked. In Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett, women and young girls have another needed role model to look up to that reminds them that they don't have to sacrifice the God-instituted blessing of family to achieve their highest dreams. That is something wonderful and should be highly celebrated!

We will pray for Justice Barrett and her family as she undertakes the monumental task of administering justice in the top court in the world.

As with every Supreme Court nomination, our team works incredibly hard to do our part to ensure our Supreme Court represents your values. From producing amicus briefs, to engaging Senators, we have left nothing on the table while fighting for your values (and all without sacrificing our important election work).

If you support our hard work, would you consider blessing our labor with a $500, $250, $100, $75, $50, or $25 donation today?

"In North Carolina, Tami Fitzgerald, executive director of NC Values, said Barrett’s confirmation is 'a fulfillment of President Trump’s promise to appoint pro-life judges who will carry out the Constitution and laws as written, without contorting the law to reach a desired outcome.'

'There is no one more qualified to sit on the Supreme Court than Justice Barrett,' Fitzgerald added, citing her originalist and textualist judicial foundation. Additionally, however, she said Barrett’s Christian faith and devotion to her family make her an appealing choice.

'Having a mother of seven serve in such a high-profile office is proof that women don’t need abortion to succeed in life,' she said."
