North Carolina's Hometown Heroes

North Carolina's Hometown Heroes The program is to support those North Carolina Hometown Heroes who work to make North Carolina communities safe. North Carolina's Automobile Dealers Association (NCADA), along with North Carolina's new car, truck and RV dealers, recognized and honored more than North Carolina First Responders at their annual meeting in December.

"The freedom and liberty that we have today is safeguarded by the actions of local Hometown Heroes that support our communities and cities. "It is our honor, as franchised car, truck and RV dealers, to recognize their commitment, dedication and courage." - NCADA Past Chairman Mike Alford from Jacksonville, NC. Other programs organized and supported by North Carolina dealers over the past 15 years include the North Carolina Teacher of the Year program, the Triangle Flight of Honor for WWII veterans, the Drive for Troops program and the Support Our Troops program. Each of these campaigns were successful due to the collective efforts and financial support of all North Carolina's franchise car and truck dealers.

NCADA's Hometown Heroes program started on the 15th anniversary of September 11th in 2016. As local businesses with deep ties to our communities, franchised dealers believe that we have an obligation to give back. The NCADA Hometown Heroes program is one of the many programs that local dealers have advanced throughout the years. It is our extreme honor to thank the men and women who dedicate themselves every day to our safety and well-being. Here are some highlights of the program through the years.

A HUGE thanks to Mellow Mushroom, Mark Jacobson Toyota, Crown Automotive Group LLC, University Ford of Durham, University Kia of Durham, Johnson Lexus of Durham, Sport Durst Automotive Group, Curtis Media Group, and 947 QDR for all their help today! Six Durham franchised automobile dealers met today to distribute 100 pizzas to the Durham Fire Department in the wake of Wednesday’s gas explosion. In less than half an hour, over 100 pizzas were dispersed among 19 Durham Fire Stations.

“As an industry, new car, truck and RV dealers are happy to support our local first responders who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe. What happened Wednesday was a tragedy, but it could have been a lot worse if it weren’t for the Durham Fire Department and their evacuation efforts. The very least we can do is provide a hot meal to those who continue to pick up the pieces,” stated NCADA President Robert Glaser.

Last year's Hometown Heroes program was a huge success. NCADA raised nearly $125,000 from our franchised car, truck, and RV dealers to help support first responders across the state of North Carolina. This year, as we close out another amazing Hometown Heroes campaign, we want to invite YOUR DEALERSHIP to connect with the community and support your local first responders by attending NCADA's Executive Forum and Hometown Heroes Event to be held on December 11th in Winston Salem. This event enables all NC dealers to extend their sincerest appreciation for all our NC first responders do throughout our state. This year we will recognize more than 30 public safety personnel.

The search continues for 6-year-old Maddox Ritch. About 100-125 people searched more than 1,400 acres in an around the Rankin Lake Park in Gastonia today. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department sent its helicopter this evening. The helicopter arrived while it was still light to do an aerial search and began to use infrared technology once it got dark out.

Overnight, search and rescue crews will patrol areas of the park on foot and on ATVs to continue the search for Maddox. All activities at the park are canceled and it will remain closed to the public until further notice. A special tip line has been established, call 704-869-1075 if you have information to help find Maddox.

At a press conference this afternoon, Gastonia Police Chief Robert Helton explained how the public can help, "if you were at Rankin Lake Park on Saturday and saw Maddox or took video or photos of their outing at the park, call us. We know a lot of people were in the park and we have spoken to many of them, but we have not spoken to everyone. No piece of information is too small. Something you may think is insignificant could be helpful to our case.”

My son, Spike Hoban, lives in Raleigh, North Carolina and works for Myriad Media in downtown. During his downtime he is working 18 hours a day producing medical grade face shields for those in need in the Triangle area. He borrowed a 3D printer from work, perfected the process, started a GoFundMe page, raised over $4000, ordered 2 additional printers, and has standing orders for free face shields.
