Professor Amy Brown - Breastfeeding Uncovered:
"A few years ago we thought we'd explore the popular myth that what you feed babies affects their sleep. Long story short, we found it didn't.
Babies continue to wake up throughout the first year for loads of different reasons, just like adults. But what you feed them doesn't affect it.
We found no difference in how often babies age 6 - 12 months woke up depending on whether they were breast or formula fed or how much solid food they had in the day.
Breastfed babies did feed more at night but that's most likely because breastfeeding is an easy way to get babies back to sleep. The babies who weren't breastfeeding still woke up.
It makes sense really - adults wake for all sorts of reasons, none of them to do with food. Babies are just the same, but need more help getting back to sleep again.

Sen. Tammy Duckworth was once told to pump breast milk in an airport toilet stall. Now she has unlocked funding to put lactation rooms in all of America's airports.

Also, that photo choice 🥰

The senator's Friendly Airports for Mothers Improvement Act lets airports large and small use federal funds to install clean, private lactation areas.

#Wing1...meet #Ace2. This is Col. Marné Deranger, your Vice Wing Commander. She is a key leader of America's ICBM forces in protecting you! This is her hard at work with one of her Airmen's kiddos fast asleep in her lap. Her Airman picked up their child from day care, but had some stuff to do for "the boss"(aka #Ace1) and thus returned to work. Not only was Col. D taking care of her Airman, she was writing remarks for a Chaplain she'd be promoting the next day. If Webster's Dictionary needed a photo for "servant-leader", this is it!

Here's to you #Ace2...we hope you're blushing right now.

#MotivationWednesday: Bravo to LT Deza!

#Latina #LatinoHeritageMonth #HispanicHeritageMonth

Congratulations to LT Gabriella C. Deza for being selected as one of the 2020 LATINA Style Distinguished Service Award recipients. LT Deza is currently assigned to Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen in Puerto Rico and has distinguished herself as a leader, mentor, and advocate for diversity at work and in the community. Her leadership, exemplary work ethic, and strong advocacy for diversity have brought great credit upon herself and the Coast Guard.

"This award represents something much larger than myself; it highlights the importance of women's representation and serves as a symbol to all young Latina girls that we can make even our wildest dreams a reality. In the Latino community, it is not uncommon for some of our own family members to have the carryover mindset from previous generations that women are not suited for roles in male-dominated fields. It is up to us to break that mindset and uplift our young boys and girls not just from the Latino community but from all walks of life so that they, too, can achieve their goals."

#TruthfulTuesday: We are sharing our friends at Problemática Media's podcast in Spanish, that includes a veteran from the U.S. Army Reserves in Puerto Rico.

"Episode 43: Breastfeeding Military Servicemembers Have Rights As Well.
Interview with Zuleika (Zuly) Cintrón

Zuly Cintrón was in the U.S. Army Reserves in Puerto Rico, when she found that her unit did not comply with granting her rights as a lactating mother (or parent) to extract her milk. Zuly not only makes her story a victorious one but tells us how it began: a complaint within her unit that ends with the US Congress. Additionally, we don't talk about it on the podcast, but Zuly is responsible for advocating for a breastfeeding pod at the Veterans Hospital in Puerto Rico."

Episodio 43: Las Lactantes Militares tienen Derechos También.

Breastfeeding in Combat Boots

Breastfeeding in Combat Boots (BFinCB) was started in 2009 when a USN veteran began writing her book, Breastfeeding in Combat Boots: A Survival Guide to Successfully Breastfeeding While Serving in the Military. What began as a small Facebook Group that was started to collect the stories of currently serving breastfeeding mothers in the military for the book, quickly morphed into a worldwide Page with over 18,000 followers. Twitter and Instagram accounts and a website quickly followed as more people looked for information about breastfeeding and pumping in the military. Eventually, BFinCB became a non-profit in conjunction with Mom2Mom Global. The book was published in 2010 to many rave reviews and continues to be the ONLY book of its kind in print.

This FB Page and the website were developed to Advocate, Educate, and Support all breastfeeding personnel serving in the military.

  • The Breastfeeding in Combat Boots WEBSITE consists of evidence-based informational articles, FAQ’s, Policies and Resources on breastfeeding in the military (US-centric, but gradually expanding to include international militaries).

  • The Breastfeeding in Combat Boots FACEBOOK PAGE posts current articles and events relating to breastfeeding in the military, and where military mothers worldwide can come together to discuss breastfeeding while serving in the military (Active, Reserve, Guard).

Just saw this shared.. what an inspiration!
I’m sure this question has been posted before but I couldn’t find a search function on the page so hopefully someone can help me out... Has anyone here used the Willow or other hand free breast pumps that they really like? We’re you able to get TRICARE to cover the cost? Pros/Cons over traditional pumps. I already have the Spectra from my first pregnancy but I didn’t get to breastfeed longer than 4 months (I was super bummed) and would really like to breast feed for longer this time. I’m hoping a hands free pump can help add to that success. Thanks!
I’m redoing my 90 hour course and look who’s mentioned in the textbook 😃😍
Hi everyone- Reaching out with love to all mums- not an advert! I am a clinical specialist Women's Health Physiotherapist in the NHS UK. In the light of Covid19, and less face to face patient consultations, I have made this video for women on pelvic health care and how to prevent and treat incontinence and prolapse. This has also opened a window of opportunity to share knowledge in a different way and reach further afield. I am happy to share here for your group. Too many women accept these issues as an inevitable part of childbirth Even if someone has already developed some symptoms the video will show how to improve the condition. This can help young and old alike.
Any information on weapons cleaning while breastfeeding? Does that fall in the 12 week or 6 month limitations and if its only the 12 weeks is it safe or can i get a dr note?
Anyone Stationed in Atsugi? Just PCSd, doing ROM and in need of dry ice or a freezer for my breastmilk. I brought 200 oz on dry ice on the plane with me and the Navy Lodge doesn't have a full size freezer, hence nowhere to freeze it. Help!

I work as a Family Advocacy Nurse and had a client ask about a breastfeeding waiver (AD Air Force). She has been breastfeeding for close to a year and is concerned about harmful chemicals passing through her milk if she has to return to the flight line. Any advice for this mom?
Hello, is there a policy or regulation in regards to army reserve mothers who are breastfeeding? More specifically in regards to training exercises or deployments?
