Since its start, in 1919, The American Legion has advocating on behalf of all military personnel, veterans, and their families through the Four Pillars: Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation, Strong National Defense, Americanism, and Children & Youth. The Legion led the charge in creating the Veterans Bureau which later became the Veteran Administration, in 1944 wrote the G.I. Bill of Rights which allowed returning veterans from World War II to buy homes and go to school. Through children and youth programs like the Boy Scouts of America and American Legion Baseball. When a Soldier, Sailor, Airmen, or Marine deploys The American Legion advocates for a well-funded, well equipped, and well-trained military and through programs like Operation Comfort Warrior, as well a temporary financial assistance as necessary.
