NC rural areas drive latest COVID-19 spikes as some worry worst is still to come

“Rural areas have more staffing shortages than we have in the larger, more metropolitan areas,” said Dennis Taylor, president of the N.C. Nurses Association. “Hospitals may have the capacity to take on more folks, they just don’t have the staff to be able to take care of the patients.”

As colder weather and holidays approach, concern mounts over rural communities’ capabilities to manage a growing pandemic.

"They are the backbone of our electoral process and without them there would be no elections. Election workers are honest and dedicated and should be hailed as heroes, just like our health care workers who put their lives on the line every day during a pandemic".

Who are these election “officials” we have been hearing about this past week? Those people counting votes and in the hot seat as America looks on?

Analysis | Biden got the highest percentage of eligible voters in about half a century

Biden won the highest percentage of eligible voters since 1980 and the margin of Biden’s victory (5.1 million votes and counting) is one of the largest in over twenty years -- exceeding Obama's defeat of John McCain in 2012.

High turnout means more Americans had their voices heard. It also means the winner was affirmatively supported by a higher percentage of the population.

Trump Appointee Stands Between Biden’s Team and a Smooth Transition

The General Services Administration hasn’t once its seventy-year existence defied our democracy and blocked the peaceful transfer of power.

It’s time we come together to ensure the will of the people prevails and demand that the leader the people have chosen is sworn in as our next president to make sure we can make ends meet, tackle the pandemic, and care for our families.

Emily W. Murphy, the administrator of the General Services Administration, must formally recognize President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. for the transfer of power to begin.

Fighting for the values that make our state great.

North Carolina will be its best when the state works for all people - black, brown and white - based on core values of fairness, equal opportunity, and respect for all. A state that works for everyone will put people before profits, offer every child a quality education and strive toward affordable, quality healthcare for all. North Carolina's growth can and must sustain its natural resources - our rivers and streams, coastline, mountains, forests, and open space. Our democracy must be open to all voters whatever their income or skin color, and free from gerrymandering to make sure our elected leaders represent the public interest, not special interests.

FYI: My daughter voted by absentee ballot in mid September from London. According to Ballottrax NC and according to the NC Board of Elections, her ballot is still in the possession of the usps....since September 15th!!! They can't tell us why or if or when they will receive it from the usps. Good news is the BOE told us to go to a poll and tell them to 'spoil' her mail in ballot and allow her to vote in person since she is now home. Bad news is....how many ballots will be stuck in the usps till beyond November 12th??!! So if you've voted by mail, use Ballottrax NC to make sure yours has made it to the BOE to be counted!

During my campaign, I have not asked for money too often; I felt it was in bad taste during a time when so many have lost their jobs. My opponent, Tim Moore doesn’t have to ask for money as he is bankrolled by big money like Duke Energy. I will not be beholden to big-money donors. I will be asking for donations to buy stamps and social media advertising. Of course, I am asking for your vote on November third. I’d like for you to remember that I am working for people, not corporations
