Every year, our family really looks forward to the local, town Christmas parade which includes fox hunters decked out in their riding finery and their horses donned with sleigh bells...it is magical!
But with the pandemic, our Hallmark Christmas town parade is canceled! Other Christmas gatherings, and parties may be limited, as well in your area....so if you are looking for a fun, family activity, (that allows for social distancing) this one may be a way to brighten up your Christmas celebration this year. HSLDA Blog

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:

As we reflect on this year of struggle and sorrow, it’s important to remember there is still much to be thankful for.

At HSLDA, if we tallied all the things for which we are grateful, the list would probably stretch to the Statue of Liberty. So I’ll keep it brief.

-We are thankful that so many more families discovered the benefits of homeschooling.

-We are thankful HSLDA has been able to assist these families as they transitioned to the educational option that best fits their children’s needs.

-We are thankful our members and friends stood with us in a robust defense of homeschool freedom.

-We are thankful for our own families.

-Most of all, we’re thankful for the promise that God will sustain us in difficult times.

As the apostle Paul reminded us—in a letter he wrote while locked in prison: “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

Happy #Thanksgiving!
-Mike Smith

Two-thirds of all U.S. colleges and universities are test-optional or test-blind for fall 2021 applicants | FairTest

The HSLDA Special Needs Consultant department recently had some questions about how Covid 19 has affected the ACT and SAT requirements for colleges across the nation.

“More than two-thirds of 4-year colleges and universities in the U.S. will not require applicants to submit ACT or SAT scores for fall 2021 admission. The National Center for Fair & Open Testing (FairTest), which maintains a free, online master list, reports that more than 1,570 schools are now test-optional. The federal government counts 2,330 bachelor-degree granting institutions.”

Fairtest, has led the test-optional movement since the late 1980's and this article gives some great information about access to testing during COVID as well as test options.

How you talk to your child changes their brain

"Today, there are countless educational apps and toys devoted to filling that word gap and expanding children’s vocabulary from day one. However, trying to inundate children with millions of words may be missing a crucial factor in development.."

Can you guess what that is?

A simple change in the way you communicate can boost your child's cognitive development.
