Harvard Magazine Calls for a “Presumptive Ban” on Homeschooling: Here Are 5 Things It Got Wrong | Kerry McDonald

A great rebuttal to Harvard magazine's recent anti-homeschooling article.

I was shocked to read the article, “The Risks of Homeschooling,” by Erin O’Donnell in Harvard Magazine. Aside from its biting, one-sided portrayal of homeschooling families that mischaracterizes the vast majority of today’s homeschoolers, it is filled with misinformation and incorrect data....

Research Homeschooling Success

Calling on families who are homeschooling children with special needs.....Homeschooling mama of 10, Amy Ford, is completing her capstone research project through Liberty University and would like your help! Please see document or links below to her Monkey Surveys if you would like to participate! Please complete by Friday, April 24th!

Dear Homeschooling Parent,

I write to you today requesting your help with a research project. As a fellow homeschooling parent, and parent to children both with and without special needs, the topic of home education is near and dear to my heart! After years of taking college classes part time, working around our homeschooling schedule and family life, the finish line is finally in sight to complete my college degree, which was a natural fit with an Interdisciplinary BA in education and psychology through Liberty University. For my current capstone course, I am taking a research focused class and am making my research topic is focused on the success of homeschooling and special needs. I have found overwhelmingly supportive literature to support my research, but also need primary sources, to include survey responses, in order to round out my research for a well-balanced project.

I would greatly appreciate your help, if you would please participate in an anonymous survey written in two parts through SurveyMonkey.com - you do not need to provide any personal information and I am the only one who will see the responses, used in my research paper. I will turn in a compilation report to my professor, but he will not see individual responses either. There is a space to include your email address at the end of one of the surveys, which is optional, if you would be willing to possibly answer follow up questions as I complete this research project.

As each mini-semester course is 8 weeks, this is time sensitive. If you are able and willing to complete the surveys, I ask that you please do so by Friday, April 24th, 2020. Thank you so much for your help, especially with short notice!

Please do feel free to share this with other homeschooling families that may be interested in participating as well, thank you!

The two surveys can be found here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SSGC8R9

and here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LBY5JMV

I appreciate your time and consideration.

Most sincerely,
Amy Ford
