HB1804/SB1030 update: After Chair Chris Jones stated that he was going to place HB1804 into a study and take no further action on the bill without a vote yesterday, they somehow decided to hear the bill in the full Appropriations Committee this afternoon. A motion was made to modify the bills to add the 3 new cancers and to keep the burden of proof issue (the part that Workers Comp is using to deny cancer claims) intact until a JLARC study is completed sometime next year. It's a partial win to get the new cancers covered, but firefighters will still be denied claims until the burden of proof issue is fixed. They claim the study will be completed by December in time for the next legislative session. The bills were reported to the House Floor unanimously. They should be voted on in the next week or so and then sent to the Governor's desk.
