Greeting WLLAX Families!

As we near the end of summer and begin planning for fall and winter activities, and ultimately our spring programs, we wanted to announce several openings on the WLLAX Board.

NO LAX experience is necessary to participate on the board; if you're passionate about youth sports and are motivated and organized, please contact us if you are interested in any of the following positions:

• President/Commissioner (attends monthly NVYLL meetings, leads the WLLAX league)
• League VP/Secretary (schedules monthly WLLAX meetings, takes minutes)
• Treasurer (manages finances)
• VP Boys (oversees boys divisions)
• VP Girls (oversees girls divisions)
• Registration Director (drives annual league registration processes)
• Marketing Director (oversees league website & social media accounts)
• Director (provides general league guidance)
• Director (provides general league guidance)

Board meetings are held once per month, and the Commissioner (or a proxy) are required to attend the monthly NVYLL Commissioner meeting held the first Wednesday of each month beginning in September. The time commitment is about 3-4 hours per month with the exception of January and February when preparations for the spring season require 10-12 hours per month. Responsibilities of all board members may include:

• Considering and voting upon new rules, regulations, protocols, processes, and potentially disciplinary actions for other leagues (via NVYLL regional meetings) as well as oversight of our own parents, coaches and players
• Budget approval
• Uniform preparations
• Storage unit and equipment management
• Marketing outreach via social media and other channels
• Being a positive and energetic leader to drive awareness and registrations

In addition to board members, we are always seeking volunteers for coaching positions, both head and assistant coaches. In addition, we welcome any social media expertise to assist in our marketing efforts. All participation is appreciated, and if you have any questions about roles, responsibilities and time commitments, we will welcome the opportunity to speak with you to provide clarifications and guidance.

Please submit your interest (with qualifications) and any inquiries to [email protected] by Tuesday, September 14, 2021. Elections will be held at the next WLLAX board meeting on Wednesday, September 15, 2021.

Kind regards,
WLLAX Board

Western Loudoun's 12UB1 team, the Bone Crushers, after their come-from-behind win yesterday to finish the season 4-3. Down 6-4 at halftime, the boys rallied in the fourth quarter to pull out a 14-10 win over a very tough and determined Falls Church team. The players for both teams endured the high heat in what our parents said was the best game of the season. Way to finish strong boys, now on to the playoffs!

WLL Players and Families-

We could use your help! We need to fill out some of our teams. Please spread the word, recruit a friend. First timers welcome.

Girls

We still have a few roster spots left on the following Girls teams. Adding 3-4 players to each team would be great for these teams to have some depth.

Girls K-2 (Kindergarten through 2nd grade)
Girls 3/4 (3rd and 4th grade)

Boys

We need more kids for our 14U division. We will field a top team and a second team. This is a great chance to get your best friend into lacrosse, or convince your football or basketball player to try it out. Please spread the word and help us get 5-10 more kids registered!

Boys 14U (basically, 7th and 8th grade)

Registration link is here, and thanks for your support!

Attention WLL Community - Spring Registration is now OPEN!

Please note, we are doing things a little differently this year to account for COVID impacts. Here is a summary of key details:

Registration is initially open at "no cost." We want to use the registration process to collect a count of players across the age groups so we can best plan.
After a period of time, we will require payment and will begin to waitlist those that don't pay within provided time frames.
Because of this, we are asking for you to register ASAP, which should be easy to do since payment will not be due unow. It is really important for us to know the numbers early so we are asking for your help here. And please, only register if you are serious about playing.

Registration Instructions:

Register Online by visiting our website: http://www.westernloudounlax.org
At the very end of the registration process, do not pay. You will reach the payment screen, which will identify your amount due, and there is a green button to activate a payment. DO NOT PROCEED TO PAYMENT and at this point, simply close your web browser.
You will be registered at this point, with a balance due. As explained, we'll require this payment later.

WLL Evaluation Dates: please mark your calendars for evaluation / tryout dates for Sunday, 31 January & Saturday, 6 Feb. More to come on this.

Call for Coaches: We are always in need of coaches. If you are interested in coaching (even if you never played before) please let us know. Coaches receive one free WLL registration to reimburse you for your time.

Happy Holidays!

Congratulations to Marco Signorello who committed to play lacrosse at the University of Maryland today. Marco was the leading scorer on Western Loudoun's 2018 U14 A team, which went undefeated and won the NVYLL Championship. D1 teams could start recruiting juniors on September 1 and Marco is one of the first commits in the entire class of 2022. Terps getting a great kid and player. And guessing that he will not be the last college commit from that 2018 squad.

Fingers crossed there will be a High School lacrosse season this year!

Fall Update

This morning, the VHSL Executive Committee voted to approve Model 3 in the re-opening of high school sports and activities. This model delays sports and activities until December 14 and keeps all sports in the seasons where they are currently aligned.

Model 3 adopts the Condensed Interscholastic Plan: (shown below)

We would like to thank everyone for their understanding and support. We would also like to thank the VHSL Executive Committee and athletic administrators for their work. The health and safety of student athletes remains our main priority as we move towards a season.

We will keep you all informed as new details become available.

VHSL Parent Poll

Players/Parents:

We wanted to share this survey we received from another lacrosse coach. If you have kids in high school, or heading toward high school, or just plain care that lacrosse is not a casualty of COVID measures, it may be worth your time to vote on this survey.

Option #2 appears to cancel boys/girls lacrosse entirely for 2020/2021 which is an option we find wholly unacceptable.

Thanks for taking the time to support our kids!

The Virginia High School League gave itself a little more time to decide the fate of fall sports. The three models being considered. Please make your selection and feel free to leave any comments.

04/01/2020

The Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League (NVYLL) Executive Committee met on 3/24/20 and decided to cancel the remainder of the 2020 Spring Season. Governor Northam ordered all schools and other community facilities closed for the remainder of the academic year, which means we will have no fields. This is heartbreaking after we have spent many months of volunteer work preparing for the season, and the boys and girls have been looking forward to it.

NVYLL is taking immediate steps to limit its, and therefore our, financial obligations so that they can return the maximum amount of member club payments back to WLL. Please bear with us as we approach this in a responsible way and make sure that our fixed costs are met so that we can be secure for next season. Only at that time, will WLL be able to offer any refunds. Please keep in mind that although we may be able to recoup some costs, we have already paid for Evergreen fields, preseason turf fields, uniforms, insurance and our other annual fixed costs. Rest assured that WLL is a non-profit and we aim to refund as much as we can without jeopardizing the health of the organization.
One way that you can help us refund that maximum amount to all player is by returning your uniforms (both jerseys and shorts/skirts) as soon as possible. We have 2 drop off points that will be accessible from 3/30 – 4/5 and we ask you drop your uniform in the bin outside no later than 4/5 (no human contact will be necessary to make the drop!)

1) Leesburg Drop Point – Bender House, 118 Balch Springs Cir SE, Leesburg. VA 20175

There will be a bin on the front stoop labeled “WLLAX UNIFORM DROP OFF”

2) Purcellville Drop Point - Notaviva Craft Fermentations, 13274 Sagle Rd, Purcellville, VA 20132

There will be a bin on front porch next to the bar labeled “WLLAX UNIFORM DROP OFF”

We thank you for your cooperation and we will be in touch as soon as possible with more information.

Greetings all, below is an update from our parent league Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse (NVYLL). Stay safe and we'll see you soon.

Western Loudoun Lacrosse

NVYLL CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

Dear Commissioners and Families:

At a meeting of the NVYLL Executive Committee tonight, a decision was made to suspend all league lacrosse activities, including practices, effective immediately, and to cancel the first 3 games of the season. We will target April 18/19 to resume games, pending further information as this situation develops. This delay spans all school systems’ Spring Break which amounts to a 5-week delay. If we are able to resume games April 18/19, there would be 5 regular season games left, not including post-season play. If we are able to resume practices at an earlier date, we will inform you as soon as possible.

If individual teams or players engage in lacrosse activity prior to NVYLL resuming play, such activity will not be sanctioned by the league.

This is not a decision we made lightly. We consulted with US Lacrosse, Fairfax County and other school systems, as well as other youth sports organizations. Although our sport is an outdoor activity, typically played in wide open spaces for both players and spectators, whether there is an actual health risk to our players and adult volunteers is not the only factor we must consider. We have officials and immune-compromised coaches who are in higher risk age ranges who should not be placed at risk for an elective, recreational activity. Although it seems that our youth players themselves may be in a low risk group, they may go from gathering with other players at games to then interact with older relatives. In addition, a player who is injured during a game may face a challenging situation obtaining emergency or even primary medical care in the coming weeks.

In the end, the decision is essentially made for us by a much more mundane and inescapable fact: many of our games are scheduled on school fields. As schools close, which is happening now, we will lose access to these fields and the domino effect even on clubs playing on Park Authority or other community fields is too difficult to manage and schedule in the fluid situation we are likely to face. In addition, some clubs have governing boards that have decided to follow the schools in terms of ceasing activity.
There is plenty of health advice being distributed so we will not do that here. We will only say that our number one concern is the safety of our players and families. It is our sincere hope that the kids will be out on the lacrosse fields as soon as possible and that in the meantime, everybody in our community stays safe.

Sincerely,
Jeff Grimson
Chair, NVYLL
