What can a geriatric care manager do for you? JFCS Geriatric Care Managers answer your questions from "how can I make sure my parents are safe when they want to age in their own home" to "how do I know if homecare is right for me?" to "what documents do I need to have in place for the future?" They serve as eyes and ears for adult children living out of town, out of state, or out of the country, providing support and guidance to older adults. They connect seniors with the tools and resources to age safely in their homes. And so much more...

In October, Mental Health America shared this insightful post. The message remains relevant whenever we feel overwhelmed by events in our own lives or in the world. Remember to prioritize mental health and well-being, especially in challenging times.

The world can be a pretty terrible place. From personal losses to national tragedies and global disasters and everything in between… It’s easy to feel depressed about the state of the world.

JFCS is proud to debut a new monthly feature: Spotlight on Volunteers. Each month we'll recognize incredible volunteers who help across agency programs. Our volunteers are critical in helping JFCS deliver our services - from delivering Kosher Meals on Wheels, to helping at Mobile Food Pantry distributions, to packing bags at our pantry, to shopping for seniors, to making calls to the elderly, our volunteers truly do it all! This month we're highlighting Les & Ben S, a dynamic father-son duo:

#FeelGoodFriday Poppy’s Pantry, the new JFCS mobile food pantry van, made a special delivery this week of 4,000+ masks to the Trenton Fire Department. The masks were part of a large donation made by Allstate Paper Box to JFCS. Our team has been making good use of the supply for the staff working on-site and out in the community, as well as providing to any clients in need. Glad to have connected with the fire department to continue paying forward this generous donation!

The Big Thinkers Group Teams Up with JFCS of Greater Mercer County

We were so honored to partner with JFCS - Jewish Family & Children's Service of Greater Mercer County to participate in their first Shop & Stock: Quarantine Edition! The Big Thinkers Group donated a check which was matched by JFCS, and then got to work! We loved getting to be hands-on and help stock JFCS's mobile food pantry. Plus, the amazing team at JFCS of Greater Mercer Country created a Budget Bingo Challenge so our Big Thinkers got to have fun during their food shopping.

It was truly a fantastic experience and we're looking forward to partnering with JFCS again in 2021!

Special thanks to the following Big Thinkers: Jes, Hillary Shulman Spivak, Andrella, Ruth Kahn Boda, Linda Lovero-Waterhouse, and Kapupatelphotography

Our Mobile Food Pantry Fleet was on the road yesterday, working with our partners to move up distributions and ensure everyone was stocked up ahead of the coming storm. Poppy's Pantry delivered 78 bags to Project Freedom Inc. Lawrenceville and Hamilton locations. Over at our Kosher Cafe, the team made sure to pack "Blizzard Bags" with extra groceries so our seniors were well fed, even if the weather impacts the cafe schedule.

You’re not seeing double, the JFCS Mobile Food Pantry FLEET now includes TWO vehicles! This week, Poppy’s Pantry, our new Mobile Food Pantry van, made its maiden voyage on a distribution to Better Beginnings Child Development Center. Poppy’s Pantry was generously funded by a private foundation in honor of Stuart “Poppy” Plotkin. It was an incredible day as the Plotkin family helped at the distribution to celebrate Lori Plotkin’s birthday and honor the memory of Stuart. A big thank you to the Better Beginning staff and students for making birthday signs to make Lori’s birthday and the entire day even more special for the family.

How can we expect kids to speak respectfully if even JFCS promotes plays with titles I wouldn't allow my kids to say??? If my student or son referred to a woman's breast as "a rack"...I'd certainly CORRECT his lack of manners and insensitivity. Females in general and young girls in particular do NOT need JFCS to further the use of words that play into body image. I understand the content of the play may be of interest....however, bad taste is still bad taste. So, the day has come when I have to censure JFCS!! ??
