To the Great Class of '08: News to share. The football team dominated this season and secured a bonfire on campus. The celebration begins at 7:30pm Sunday night: https://odus.princeton.edu/bonfire.

Your officers also wish to share rather sad news - our classmate, Elizabeth Ortiz, passed away in October after a long battle with Behcet's, a rare autoimmune disease. A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood on Sunday, November 18th at 3:00 p.m. To honor Elizabeth's memory, and to encourage future students, a scholarship has been established at the high school. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Mahwah High School, with the funds marked for the Elizabeth Ortiz Pride and Spirit Award. Please consider donating in honor of Elizabeth.

Olympic hero Matheson closes in on 200 caps for Canada - Sportsnet.ca

More news about our terrific classmates! Diana Matheson '08 recently played her 200th game with the Canadian women's soccer team. Only one other player in the team's history has reached such a feat. Diana helped secure Canada's place in the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France! Way to go, Diana! https://www.sportsnet.ca/soccer/olympic-hero-matheson-closes-200-caps-canada/ #PrincetonGreat08

Two hundred appearances for the Canadian women's team is a special milestone. So why doesn't Diana Matheson, who has 199 caps to her credit, sound more enthused about hitting 200? It's because she has bigger things to worry about at the moment.

TOMORROW! Do you know where your beer jacket is? Thinking about throwing a bathing suit in your bag with temps near 90 all weekend?

As you're getting your gear together, don't forget to pack any old electronics you have for our class community service project! This year at Reunions we will be collecting old electronics for our community service project. Donations will be given to the Student Volunteers Council, who will make use of the electronics for some of their great projects such as tutoring in the local community and music therapy! The leftover electronics the SVC doesn’t need will be donated to programs in need of them in Trenton, and rest assured they will be recycled properly. Best of all, they won’t take up much space in your luggage, and you’ll be making use of them to do good and help the environment! Ground rules - No Computers, Laptops, or Pagers - Bring your charger, connector, and battery, but no other accessories needed - iPods, iPhones, iPads, e-readers, old cell phones, cameras all OK, whether or not they are working - Remember to erase all personal info! (Remove SIM card and erase phone memory) We will collect them at the registration tent.

T-1 day to Reunions! Almost there!

There'll be a few posts today for the final schedule of events: 2) Several members of our class will be speaking at the Alumni forums, including Laurel Lathrop, Nicole Valesco, Katy Digovitch, and Jennifer Epstein!

Books that Changed Your Life (Jadwin Hall, Room A10, Friday, May 31, 9:00-10:00am)
Laurel Lathrop - After graduating in '08, I spent a year teaching in Singapore and traveling throughout Southeast Asia. I then came to Ithaca, NY to get my MFA in Fiction at Cornell. After getting my MFA in 2011, I worked at Cornell as a lecturer, teaching a freshman writing seminar and a creative writing workshop. I've just finished my last semester of teaching, which is bittersweet, since I loved getting to run a workshop, but it's nice to have graded my last essay for a while! I plan to stay in Ithaca for another year, freelancing and doing odd jobs (I also work at a vintage clothing store) to give myself time to finish my first novel and work on getting published. In the long term I am hoping to write fiction and teach creative writing at the university level. I was thrilled to be invited to participate on the panel "Books That Changed Your Life," since like most writers, I have been building up a mental library of treasured books my whole life. And especially now that I'm out of grad school, it's a particular treat to get to talk about books to other book-lovers, all of whom are much more established writers than I am! I feel a little like Courtney Cox getting pulled up on stage to dance with Springsteen.

Electoral Politics: Running the Good Race (McDonnell Hall, Room A01, Friday, May 31, 10:30-11:30am)
Nicole Velasco - Since graduation, Nicole Velasco moved back home to Hawaii to work in the public sector. She gained work experience as an analyst in both the Finance Committee of the Hawaii State House of Representatives and the Hawaii State Office of the Auditor, which led her to run for elected office last year. Though...

Hey, '08! As your class secretary, I'm excited to share news about what we all are doing with our lives. I'm going to do my best to highlight news from classmates with the hashtag #PrincetonGreat08. If you have news you want to share in the PAW, email [email protected]. If I miss something, LET ME KNOW. We are doing pretty awesome things--let's share our successes with one another. :D
he People Calling You! Episode 4. Or, The People Posting On Facebook Asking You To Donate To Princeton Annual Giving! Today, June 30, is the very last day to give for our 10th reunion campaign. You can give on Venmo, or traditional internet style: princeton.edu/agvenmo princeton.edu/ag The People Calling You, episode 4, features Micol Martinelli '08 who answers three questions: who were you in 2008, who are you in 2018, and why are you calling me? Micol saw her first hockey game at age 8 in Baker Rink and told her parents "this is what I want to do" (4:05). When she started her job in finance, she didn't know that that a 9% drop in one day in the stock market wasn't normal (8:45). And when she moved to London, she introduced ice hockey to Brits (12:00). She also took a sabbatical, going to Kenya to volunteer at an orphanage (16:00).
The People Calling You! Episode 3 features Nicole Velasco '08. There’s a volcano erupting in Hawaii (1:50)! Nicole shares how in 2008 she got a sobering call from her mother (3:20), how she once lost her internship at J.P. Morgan because of scheduling (6:00), how she sold tonic water in supermarkets after graduation (7:50), and how going to a luau-themed party and taking shots off an ice luge led to her first full-time job (10:35). Nicole also tells about her run for office in Hawaii and how she uncovered some unsavory politics (15:10). On behalf of Princeton Annual Giving.
The People Calling You! Episode 2 features Cate Adams '08, studio executive and Vice President at Warner Bros. Cate answers three questions: who were you in 2008, who are you in 2018, and why are you calling me? She talks about waiting tables after school and then working her way up from unpaid internships (4:15), politely corrects me on who Andy Serkis is (5:00), gives a preview of the upcoming movie Mowgli (6:00), reveals that she asked for multiple endings to see what worked (10:00), explains why movies need to be "made three times" (11:00), and shares that she originally thought she'd be an investment banker (17:45). On behalf of Princeton Annual Giving.
This is a limited-edition mini-series podcast on Princeton '08ers, called The People Calling You. If it sounds like the title of a horror movie, you’re kind of right. It can be scary to receive a telephone call from an adult who spends their leisure hours calling you on behalf of Annual Giving. So we wanted to find out more! One guest per episode. Just 3 questions. Who were you in 2008? Who are you in 2018? And why are you calling me? Episode 1. Michael Scharff '08, Head of Content and Thought Leadership at PA Consulting is our first guest. He sings Les Miserables (2:25), talks about his time in Uganda (5:35), imparts wisdom in his old age (10:40), and remembers that never in a million years did he think he would end up at Princeton (12:35).
Blaze-In Sportswear is stocked for 2018 with our Custom Alumni Blazers. We would love if you shared our link with your Alumni Network. If you need any more info let me know. As always a % of the sale goes back to the Alumni Association.
