Grassroot Hope In South Africa GHISA

Grassroot Hope In SA is committed to ensuring the safety of our beneficiaries and this remains our top priority during the outbreak of the COVID 19(Corona Virus). We have taken the statement released by President Cyril Ramaphosa seriously and have adhered to the prescribed measures including to avoid group gatherings and to maintain a safe and clean environment for all who come into contact with our centre and our dedicated team.
We do want to mention that we have stopped all sporting and other life skills interventions Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder and HIV awareness programs taking place at our Community Centre.

We will proceed with extreme caution with the feeding scheme as there are still too many children that needs a nutritional meal.

We are equipped with hand sanitation washing facilities and we want to handle small groups at a time from 11:00 to 14:00 during the COVID 19 outbreak. We will endeavor to give food on a takeaway basis so that children are not kept in close quarters.

We urge community members to encourage hungry children to respond during those times only for feeding not for program activities.

Lastly we fully commit ourselves with Sustainable development goals adopted by the United Nations number 1 No Poverty 2 - Zero hunger 3. good health and well being.

Community members in Richmond participate in a 4-day training with FARR (Foundation for alcohol-related research). Over the cause of the week, they will share knowledge about FASD(Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder) and ways how the community can work together to reduce the affects of FASD.
The damaged caused by prenatal alcohol use is irreversible and permanent hence the community needs to be informed and empowered.

It really saddens us to see how the South African business community mobilised behind a couple and got together sponsorships of nearly R2 million towards their wedding. Everyone commented on how amazing "Ubuntu" is. The corporates didn't do this for Ubuntu - they did it for the social media and press coverage that their brands would get by being part of this viral event. They jumped on the social media bandwagon and build some brand loyalty under the guise of "ubuntu".

So, all South African companies who donated for the #KFCWedding, we challenge you to donate to a cause that won't give you much free PR, viral social media coverage or brand awareness. Donate to a registered NPO running for 15 years that feeds 200 children per day. Donate to an organisation trying to reduce fetal alcohol specrum disorder births, educating kids on HIV & AIDS, providing basic computer literacy and fostering leadership through sports and arts. THAT is true Ubuntu.

If your organisation would like to help us, please DM us and we can give you more information.

We sincerely appreciate all of the donations we have received so far. Your support has assisted us in so many ways.

Thank you from all of us at GHISA and also from our community who rely on us!

P L E A S E S H A R E ! !

Today we cannot feed over 200 children. We cannot offer any of our community programmes. Our admin office cannot function.

Our community centre was broken into last night.

All of our food for our soup kitchen was stolen. Offices were vandalised. Important equipment we need to operate was stolen. Our security doors are now useless.

This is a massive set back for us. Our budget was already hugely constrained with our volunteers having taken cuts in their stipends, and programmes being cut just to keep our centre open for our community. This senseless act of criminality could not have come at a worse time.

We are angry. We are sad. But we will not give up hope!

If you are able to, please consider a donation to our centre... however small. Every single rand will be appreciated. Our banking details:

Even in the aftermath of the senseless robbery at our centre, we will continue with our programmes for the Richmond youth.

We are still offering our Sports, Music and Library programmes. These happy pictures show our children learning to play the recorder.

Sadly, our computer lab is no longer functional. iPads, laptops, printers and other essential equipment have all been stolen.

If any of our Facebook friends have old laptops, desktops or printers to donate to us, please DM us. Our computer lab was used for bursary applications, school project research, typing skills and other training to upskill our children on modern technology.

We will persevere. We have hope.

๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฟ Meet Jacob ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฑ

Jacob is not only responsible for keeping our entire centre clean, but his green fingers have ensured that the 200-odd children who receive meals from us have fresh vegetables to increase their daily nutritional intake.

For the last 10 years, Jacob has worked wonders in the arid, dry Karoo creating a sustainable garden that supplies our Soup Kitchen with fresh veggies.

Thank you Jacob for your hard work, and for the pride you take in our vegetable garden. We salute you.

These phenomenal people are the backbone of our organisation, working together to bring hope to our community here in Richmond.

We are so grateful for their hard work, even in the most difficult circumstances. Without their selfless contributions, the youth of our community would not have access to sports such as soccer, the computer lab, the soup kitchen and life training on topics like foetal alcohol syndrome.

Thank you team for your perseverance and willingness to uplift our youth each and every day!
