Our Values
The Core Values are also available online translated into numerous languages. We Are a Christian People
As members of the Church Universal, we join with all true believers in proclaiming the Lordship of Jesus Christ and in embracing the historic Trinitarian creedal statements of Christian faith. We value our Wesleyan-Holiness heritage and believe it to be a way of understanding the faith that is true to Scripture, reason, tradition, and experience. more >>

We Are a Holiness People

God, who is holy, calls us to a life of holiness. We believe that the Holy Spirit seeks to do in us a second work of grace, called by various terms including “entire sanctification” and “baptism with the Holy Spirit”-cleansing us from all sin, renewing us in the image of God, empowering us to love God with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves, and producing in us the character of Christ. Holiness in the life of believers is most clearly understood as Christlikeness. more >>

We Are a Missional People

We are a sent people, responding to the call of Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit to go into all the world, witnessing to the Lordship of Christ and participating with God in the building of the Church and the extension of His kingdom (Matthew 28:19-20; 2 Corinthians 6:1). Our mission (a) begins in worship, (b) ministers to the world in evangelism and compassion, (c) encourages believers toward Christian maturity through discipleship, and (d) prepares women and men for Christian service through Christian higher education. more >>

Our Beliefs
These are the beliefs Nazarenes hold to be true:

We believe in one God-the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living. We believe that man is born with a fallen nature, and is, therefore, inclined to evil, and that continually. We believe that the finally impenitent are hopelessly and eternally lost. We believe that the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race; and that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from the dominion of sin. We believe that believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth, and also to the entire sanctification of believers. We believe that our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place.

California church experiences two fires in four days

Thank you to all those who have been praying for our Concord Christ Community Church family. The Lord is with us and we will continue preaching and embodying the good news of Jesus!

Early in the early morning of Thursday 13 May, fire crews were called to the church’s campus where a large fire had broken out. The fire collapsed the roof and eventually the second story.

Six Pivots for the Church in a Post-Christian World

The San Francisco Bay Area has one of the least church-going populations of any place in the United States. 61% of our neighbors have not attended a church service at any time within the past six months, compared to the national average of 38%. We have the highest percentage of “de-churched” people. 48% have been exposed to church but made a conscious decision to stop attending. 14% of our neighbors are “never-churched.” The majority of our churches are getting older and smaller. We are seeing a mass exodus of young people from Christianity. There are over 112 languages spoken in the Bay Area.

Most of our pastors were not trained and our churches were not designed for this kind of mission field. For our churches to be healthy and fruitful, we're going to have to make at least six key pivots.

Our God, we pray for children, rescued from online sexual exploitation, who now live at the Shechem Home, a Nazarene assessment center in the Philippines. Give these children Your help, healing, and hope. May they begin to again feel safe. Give strength and wisdom to their house parents, counselors, and teachers. Protect each child and bring those who took advantage of them to justice and full repentance. Amen.

Being a Credible Witness

What do our neighbors say about us? Can they tell that we are Christians by the way we live? It’s not enough to know the gospel, or even to preach the gospel, if we don’t also embody the gospel. How do we become credible witnesses of the good news that Jesus is making all things new; that through Jesus, we can be reconciled to God and to each other?

What is Our Vision?

What is the vision of the NorCal District Church of the Nazarene? Check out the latest video from our channel, "As in Heaven."

From beginning to end, the Bible is clear: God created us, every one of us, to share in His life and work. God is a loving Father that wants His children to participate in the family business, which is to make all things new through Christ. To restore all people to right and loving relationship with God and each other through Christ. To proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. To bring heaven to earth. This is God’s vision for humanity.

A new book of reflections on God, humanity, and diversity from two incredible leaders in the Church of the Nazarene: Dr. Carla D. Sunberg, General Superintendent, and Rev. Daniel Abdou Karim Gomis, Africa Regional Director.

Lord, help us to see the world as You see it, and love our neighbors as You love us!

“Carla Sunberg and Dany Gomis summon the church to see the likeness of Jesus reflected in every person. Color is a call to live, see, and know Christ in the beautiful diversity that God intended when God created every race.”

Do not lose heart

AN EASTER MESSAGE OF ENCOURAGEMENT FROM OUR BOARD OF GENERAL SUPERINTENDENTS

As we were approaching Good Friday, we reflected on Psalm 22. Many are familiar with this text because of its opening words of lament: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Jesus cites these words in Matthew 27, when He cried out, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

So much in our world today leads us to lament. The motif of lament in Psalm 22 suggests a sense of being abandoned or forgotten by the Lord. But as one writer says, "The psalm does not dwell in this motif; It moves from desperation to hope, from suffering to salvation and from humiliation to vindication."

In Psalm 22:23-24, we read, "You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel! For he has not despised or scorned the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him, but has listened to his cry for help."

We suffer with those who are suffering, and we cry out on behalf of our world, for we desire for all people to see God's salvation, and we hope to see transformation in our world. Do not lose heart. Consider the full picture! "Do not be afraid. For I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He's not here. He has risen, just as he said."

As the church participates with Christ in His redemptive mission in the world, let us be reminded that the powers of darkness will not have the final word. God is restoring and redeeming lost humanity, and He invites us to partner with Him. There is hope for today and tomorrow, for Christ has risen!

May the grace and peace of our Lord be with you!

Jesus Comes to Jerusalem as King

As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her c**t by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”

This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:

“Say to Daughter Zion,
‘See, your king comes to you,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
and on a c**t, the foal of a donkey.’”

The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the c**t and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,

“Hosanna to the Son of David!”

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”

“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”

The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

What is Our Mission?

What is the mission of the NorCal District Church of the Nazarene? Check out the latest video on our YouTube channel!

The word “church” in our English Bibles is a translation of the Greek word, “ekklesia,” which refers to an assembly of people who have been called together for a specific purpose. What is that purpose? What is our mission? Why do we come out of our homes and gather in churches each week to sing, pray, study the Scriptures, and serve our communities? What’s it all for?

"As in Heaven," is a YouTube channel hosted by the Northern California District Church of the Nazarene, dedicated to conversations about how to help people know, love, and follow Jesus Christ in our missional context.

A timeline of mass shootings in the U.S.

The Northern California District Church of the Nazarene mourns the tragic, senseless, and sadly, all too familiar loss of life resulting from yet another mass shooting in Boulder, CO this week. As followers of Jesus, members of God's family, and citizens of the kingdom of heaven, we look forward to the day when the curse of sin will be completely eradicated from the world. Until that day, we commit to proclaiming and embodying the love of Jesus Christ and living as counter-cultural agents of peace in our communities.

"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.'”

You are all AWESOME! Great is our God and I look forward to what He is going to do in our lives, "AS IN HEAVEN".
We had our first Sunday walking about the city during church. Almost everybody came for that except one man who thought that it smacked of being like the J.W's. All in all, it went well. People received us well and we got to pray for a few of them too. Handed out a simple flyer to invite them to church, and smiled and asked for their prayer needs. It's a step. Don't know what will come of this, but God willing it will blossom.
