K9 Paw Print Rescue

K9 Paw Print Rescue K9 Paw Print Rescue is a non profit 501(c)(3). -Tax I.D. 45-5601628 We rescue, rehab, and re-home abandoned, stray and neglected animals from shelter situations. We work closely with our shelters and rescuers to give homeless animals a second chance.
K9 Paw Print Rescue is an established nonprofit animal rescue group whose members are known throughout the rescue world. We work together to save the lives of shelter dogs facing euthanasia due to medical issues, old age and overcrowding. We work closely with the Contra Costa Animal Services in Martinez and Antioch Animal Services as well as various other shelters throughout California to give abandoned and homeless dogs a second chance at life.Once in our program, our dogs are placed into loving foster homes until we can find them a forever home. We also have a "Fospice Program" in which terminally ill dogs or those with severe chronic medical conditions are placed in a supportive foster home to live out their lives in comfort and love. K9PPR is a private non-profit run by a group of dedicated volunteers and we receive no governmental funding. We rely solely on, private donations, public support, and a community volunteers. We are located in the East Bay Area of California and operate throughout the entire San Francisco Bay Area.

K9 Paw Print Rescue was established in 2012 by a group of animal lovers dedicated to rescuing dogs abandoned in local shelters and facing euthanasia. Our organization is composed of dedicated, experienced and hardworking volunteers and loving foster homes. Dogs in our program are evaluated for temperament and health, medically treated (if necessary) and placed in foster homes until they are deemed ready for adoption. K9PPR’s main goal is to rescue the dogs with little to no chance of being adopted in municipal shelters. Unfortunately, many shelter dogs fall into this category due to fear, neglect, abuse, treatable illnesses, age as well as a host of other reasons. Thanks to the help of our training and veterinary partners as well as our fosters and volunteers, we are able to help many of these “underdogs” and set them up for successful placement in loving forever homes. As of 2018 we have placed over 700 dogs (and a few cats) in wonderful homes! Please visit our website: k9ppr.org for more about our organization.

Mission: K9 Paw Print Rescue's mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and ultimately to re-home abandoned, abused, stray and neglected animals from high-kill shelters. We work with various shelters to save the lives of animals facing euthanasia due to overcrowding, medical conditions and many other issues. We work to provide solutions to end the pet over-population epidemic as well as promote responsible pet ownership through education and public awareness campaigns.

Today we had to say goodbye to our fospice boy Trombone.
He came to us from @contra_costa_animal_services at the end of February and even sung us a little freedom song when we sprung him!
Unfortunately we discovered that his throat tumor was inoperable, so we gave him love, lots and lots of love and made him comfortable for whatever time he had left.
The last couple of days his foster brother Monty has been comforting him and burying his head in his fur, as if he knew he wasn’t well. Today he declined quickly and was in distress, so we had to make the decision to end his suffering.
Thank you for taking care of this sweet, vocal boy @elkesporseen and for seeing him through wrapped in love. Sleep well Trombone, you were loved.

MASTIFF PUPPY!!! Saki is a female Cane Corso pup, about 5 mos old. She is looking for a special home who will continue the imperative structured training and guidance program she is making strides in.

Saki is not the right dog for most homes. She needs a very savvy and experienced home without other animals or children. (If kids are in your future, this is not the right dog for you). She will never be a dog park dog, she won’t be a dog random people can just go grab at and pet, and has a lot of fear based issues that are no joke, and we are working on these with her but she will require a dedicated owner who will consistently reinforce her training and behavior. The proper leadership for this girl is what helps her to thrive so we are looking for that right situation for her. Go to www.k9ppr.org to send in an adoption application for her! Saki is a 5 month Cane Corso corso Mastiff 😍 Check out how much fun she is having with obedience!!!

Saki is going to need a special savvy home who is willing and able to provide her with adequate structure and management so we are starting to see if there’s a home out there for her now even though she isn’t ready for adoption yet.

Saki is generally a fearful dog. She is low energy for the most part, loves affection, belly rubs from her people, and to please her people but at times does have a tendency to display defensive aggression so we are working on that.

She is in a board and train program with a very knowledgeable trainer, and when she is adopted out will have a solid obedience foundation. She knows heel, place, sit, down, and is starting to learn stay. Saki is also being properly exposed to things and is gaining confidence in new environments nicely.

We are going to be very straightforward about what type of home Saki will need to stay safe:
1. When guests come over, she will be on her place bed or in her crate. She is not a social butterfly, and comfortable with strangers expecting her to be. She is able to ignore people without issue, but does not seek attention from strangers and it will be very important that a new home understands this.
2. When people ask to pet her on walks, the answer will always be no.
3. No dogs. While Saki is able to walk by and be neutral on leash, and has had plenty of successful interactions with other dogs, she has displayed some concerning behaviors that are very unpredictable, or are predictable but very dangerous. If you adopt Saki, she will need to be the only dog in the home for the duration of her life. If you choose to allow her to interact with a friend’s dog (absolutely no dog parks ever with this dog), she will need to be muzzled.
4. No kids. If you think kids may be in your future, she isn’t for you.
5. Structure, management, Leadership, and training will always be an imperative part of her life. They are for all dogs, but for Saki, her ability to succeed and be safe in life depends on them.

Ultimately, the ideal home for Saki would be someone with large breed experience who has a yard and is looking for a sweet, low energy, smart dog to enjoy mostly one on once. Saki needs someone who doesn’t mind having a one person dog, and understands that management is going to be a mandatory part of owning her.

In summary:

The positives: Saki really bonds well to her person. She is very smart and trainable, and picks new things up quickly. She likes to be pet and is quite affectionate and snuggly. She doesn’t have a very high exercise requirement and would be happy in any house with a fenced in yard. She has basic obedience Skills and is crate trained (sleeps in a crate overnight, travels in the car in a crate, and is quiet in the crate while the trainer is home and doing other things)

Everything else: will need to be a single dog, will need to be muzzled around dogs if off leash (will never be able to go to a dog park or day care type environment), will need to be crated or left in a stay on a place command when guests come over, Should not live in a home that plans to have small children over frequently. Will always take time to warm up to people and will never be a social butterfly. She is not the type of dog that will be able to go anywhere and do everything, she will have social limitations. If you know someone who would be a great fit for this beautiful mastiff puppy please go to www.K9ppr.org and fill out an adoption application 🙂

🚨 💔 Because the life of rescue never stops.... 💔🚨

We just got a call for help from the shelter to come and save this guy. Of course we couldn’t say no, despite the fact that we have so many medical cases right now.

So, please meet BENZ, a husky malamute mix.

This poor guy has literally hundreds of fox tails embedded in him. The shelter shaved him down and have been working to remove them, but he has multiple abscessed ones which are going to require surgery to remove under sedation because they’ve migrated too deep. He’s very uncomfortable and they are infected.

So far the shelter have removed over 200 foxtails so far. He feels like he has splinters all over his poor body.

He has even been throwing up hairballs from pulling his coat out to try and remove the foxtails himself.

We need to fundraise for his surgery and care. He has been started on antibiotics and pain meds for now, but he will need at least a couple surgical procedures to remove the deepest ones.

🐾🐾 You can donate to his care via: PayPal.me/K9PawPrintRescue
Or
www.K9PawPrintRescue.org/donate.html 🐾🐾 All the money will go towards his care.

Hold on buddy, we’re coming to get you and help make you feel better.

Please spare a thought for our wonky donkey Squib this morning.
He is going in to get his left eye removed and to get fixed.
He has been doing so well, his skin has improved a lot, thanks to the medicated baths, he is no longer anaemic and he has been putting on weight thanks to the love and nourishment of his foster.
We have had him checked out by various specialists and there do not seem to be any further underlying issues thank goodness. He is just extra uncoordinated and tilts to one side but he is a very happy 6 month old pup!

Andi Cuomo, now Penny, hanging out in her forever home! Isn’t she a cutie?!

Her new mom got her this little basket and she feels so secure and happy chilling in it.

She joins a big fur sister, literally a big fur sister, a Great Pyrenees mix, who she is the boss of.

Happy tails Andi Cuomo! So happy that you found your forever family.

💔 We are heartbroken.

Today we lost our little cleft palette boy.

He was doing so well, he was so animated and happy, feeding well, learnt to walk (see second video in comments for his wobbly first steps)..... his cleft palette had just about closed up too. But today he declined quickly and all of a sudden. We don’t have the answers but it looks like his organs started to shut down, he wasn’t responding to meds and he was in major distress. So we had to take the agonizing decision to let him go.

Thank you to Brianna who selflessly took this little guy home with her and looked after him every step of the way. He knew he was loved. She and his little kitten bffs will miss him greatly.

It’s heartbreaking when this happens, but it’s part of rescue life and we will go on and not give up on those who need our help.

Sleep tight little buddy. We love you 💔

🐾 Squib pupdate 🐾

Good news and bad news for our newest rescue puppy Squib.

Good news: he is in a foster home and is finally able to sleep a lovely deep sleep knowing that he is safe (swipe to see pictures). He’s also been to the vets and had bloodwork done and to the groomers for his medicated baths. We were worried about his liver values, but it looks pretty good. He’s obviously underweight and anemic, but we can fix those with good nutrition.

Now the not so good news: poor Squib is definitely on the hot mess express. He has more going on than we originally thought. He falls over a lot, his pads and nails are abnormal, gait and jaw are abnormal.

We need to start with getting his skin and eye infections under control. He had some blood tests, etc run to see if his head tilt could be from other issues and he'll go back to the vets soon to have his eye removal surgery and get fixed. We may need to do more diagnostics at that point.

For now he is exhausted but playing with toys and being spoiled. He is a goofy, sweet guy who deserves every chance at living his best dog life.

We really need help with his vet costs. Not only for the visit after he was pulled from the shelter, but for all the blood work, eye surgery, and specialist appointments he needs. We have a number of medically needy and fospice dogs currently in our foster homes but we desperately want to give poor Squib every chance.

We know that this is a tough time for a lot of people but whatever you can spare is amazing. Even a tiny donation helps us, no amount is too small. If every one on our social media channels just gave $2 or $5 it would alleviate the pressure of how we are going to pay for Squibs medical bills. Also, please share this post so we can get more supporters on #teamsquib🐾

🐾 You can donate via paypal at PayPal.me/K9PawPrintRescue or on our website http://www.k9pawprintrescue.org/donations.html 🐾

Blinker, our hilarious blind French Bulldog puppy, came to us needing a second chance at having the life of a normal pup.
Despite being born without eyes, it didn’t slow him down. Every day he grew leaps and bounds with his ability to navigate the world his way.
He touched the hearts of everyone he met and kept everyone entertained. He taught his foster family so much and they loved him.
We knew we had the perfect match for his special forever family the moment they met. He couldn’t stop kissing his new mamas face and neck!
Blinker joins a fur brother, who was looking for a playmate and cuddle buddy. His new mama and daddy are more than ready to build him the best life ever, no holding back. Thank you for making our lives better, Blinker. We wish you love and happiness in your new family. We can’t wait to receive updates on your new life!

🆘 Urgent 🆘 Pittie mix pup with facial trauma needs urgent rescue and medical care. We really want to help him. He is urgent at the shelter and we would like to get him to the vet right away but need everyone’s help financially.

Squib is only 7 mos old and hasn’t known much kindness in his life. He is underweight, likely needs an eye removed, and has an abnormal jaw likely from trauma to his jaw and or skull: basically we may need to have some xrays or other tests done in addition to his eye removal. Squib is very sweet, just a little scared right now and is learning to trust us hoomans. Please help us save a life and donate towards his medical care!

Please share and make a donation / pledge towards his care if you can spare a little bit. We would like to get him today and could use some financial support. Thanks ❤️🐾❤️🐾❤️

here is Jackson a little over a year later
We’re wanting to adopt so we have quarantine time to bond. Do you know of any agencies that are processing adoptions remotely?
Stray Pitbull little girl. Low energy. Weak. No signs of agression. Looks very tired. Any immediate help will be appreciated. Thank you!
Here's George, 6 years later, and he is coming up on his one year of TPLO surgery. 😊
Male: Found this afternoon off Balfour and Deer Valley Rd. He's very sweet about 2-4 years old? not neutered. Vet called the # from his chip, no call back from owners. We can hold him this one night (Thurs) The folks at vet said Martinez is a no kill shelter, unless someone else can foster him, we'll take him there tomorrow (Fri) He's in Brentwood now.
Thank you for letting me join

I want to write a big/major THANK YOU to K9 Paw Print Rescue because of then we are reunited with Mia, our family dog who has been apart of our lives for over 20 years. We thank K9 so much for helping Mia out and helping us find her.
hi everyone. My neighbor is looking for chihuahua however she is a senior and she walks with the Walker so the dog would have to be leash trained and not afraid of an assistive device.
It’s been 4 years since we were rescued by our K9PPR Alumni, Stella Artois. She’s grown into a solid, powerful, beautiful adult lady. She is the sweetest snuggle bunny; always happy and playful; and LOVES meeting new people. She still gets the zoomies everyday when she gets her cookie! We couldn’t love her more!
We are so hopeful that we will find a dog.😄
