Our Story
Nonprofit Youth Organization
Opportunity for youth-at-risk, is life-altering. At People Who Care (PWC), a nonprofit outreach organization, we provide after school activities, community service opportunities, vocational training, and employment options for young people between the ages of 12 to 21.
In partnership with key local agencies, PWC provides at-risk and high-risk youth with environmental education, green-related job training, and practical experience in leadership and entrepreneurship. Our key partners are:
(1) People Who Care Children Association
(2) Contra Costa County Mental Health
(3) Contra Costa County Probation Department, and Juvenile Services Division
(4) Pittsburg Unified School District
(5) Individual Trainers and Consultants
After-School Mentoring Programs
Established in 2009, in partnership with Contra Costa County Mental Health, PWC Hip Hop After-school Program provides much needed support for children who attend Community Day School, Golden Gate, in Pittsburg, CA. These high-risk juveniles include those referred by probation and local school districts for expulsion, behavioral issues, or school attendance problems.
Children attending Community Day have a half-day curriculum, which means they get out of school every day at noon when other schools are still in session. After-school hours are a critical time for these children when healthy extra curricular activities can keep them out of trouble. We provide key activities, including
(1) Vocational Training
(2) Employment Opportunities
(3) Peer- counseling
(4) Community Service
