We Stand Together

With all the actions and volatile incidents occurring this past week, it is difficult to comprehend the unconscionable circumstances which led to the protests, riots and unrest. The killing of George Floyd and others is indefensible. PCT stands with our community and the nation against such injustice.

As the song says, "there is a light in the darkness" and "a road we must travel" to find a solution to come together as one.

The PCT Board believes that the song “I Know Where I’ve Been” from its 2017 production of “Hairspray” hits the nail on the head for how we all feel. This video is some of the cast of "Hairspray" performing a reprise of this song at the 2018 Shellie Awards. We apologize for poor video quality, but the vocals express it all.

Dear PCT Family & Friends,

I hope that you and your loved ones are all well.

As you all know, our “new normal” has led to big changes in how we live and what we can do. One of the obvious changes has been limits on gatherings that have already impacted PCT’s season. Unfortunately, further delays are necessary to ensure everyone’s safety.

First, our inaugural season of “[email protected]” is being postponed to 2021. New dates have not yet been set, but we will kick off with "The Real Inspector Hound" in late March or early April followed by "The Hound of the Baskervilles" in August 2021. We do hope you will join us on this exciting new venture.

Second, you already know that "Oliver!" was postponed to February 2021. We have now learned that the California Theatre will remain closed through the end of 2020. As a result, next year’s main stage season will consist of "Oliver!" and "Once on this Island" which will go up in May 2021.

"The Addam’s Family The Musical" and "Death Trap" will move to the Fall of 2021 to kick off that season. For our current season ticket holders who already purchased their 2020/2021 season ticket, you will soon (if not already) be contacted by the box office to discuss the impact of those changes. Please watch for an email, phone call from Carolyn or contact the box office directly.

We may be off the live stage, but we will be looking for ways to keep you entertained while we stay at home to protect ourselves and others. Keep checking our website and above all, stay healthy and stay positive.

Black box theatre comes to Pittsburg! In a new venture, Pittsburg Communituy Theatre will present a full length show in an intimate setting: local hot-spot Steeltown Coffee and Tea. PCT at Steeltown’s inaugural season is called “The Year of the Hound.” Two productions are planned, a murder mystery comedy The Real Inspector Hound, and the 3-man British comedy The Hound of the Baskervilles.

Up first...
The Real Inspector Hound, directed by Gregory Brown, runs March 20-29, 2020. This Tom Stoppard farce pokes fun at theatre critics and the conventions of murder mystery fare, such as The Mousetrap by Agatha Chrisitie. Stoppard’s comedy blurs the line between reality and the world of the stage, as the two critics are, literally, drawn into the action onstage in a serious of hilarious occurrences.

Ticket prices are $15 per person when purchased in advance, or $20 at the door. Discounts available for PCT season ticket holders or active PCT members. Contact PCT directly for your discount code if you have not yet received it.

To purchase tickets, call the California Theatre box office at
925-427-1611 or go online to purchase individual tickets (www.pittsburgcaliforniatheatre.com).

LIMITED SEATING so please get your tickets in advance.

It is with much sadness that we learned today of the passing of John "Jack" O'Leary. Jack was one of our PCT Family members who performed on stage, and was an ardent supporter of the arts. Jack, along with his wife Honey, were honored by PCT with a Special Shellie for their Contribution to the Arts in 2011. Our hearts and prayers go out to Honey and their family. God speed, Jack! We will miss your kind spirit and smile.

Update: Jack O'Leary's celebration of life will be held Saturday March 7, 11 a.m. at Christ the King Church in Pleasant Hill. All are welcome.

Great Job PCT !! and the Raisin in the Sun production was a success.

Oh what fun!
Happy 40th Anniversary PCT! I know that April 9, 1979 is the date of PCT's incorporation. I know this because the very first show I ever directed, "Baby", opened on April 9, 2004, PCT's 25th Anniversary. Thanks PCT for giving me my first opportunity to direct. Since that date 15 years ago, I have directed more than 25 productions. I will always be grateful to the company for their trust in me then.
Bravo! to PCT's cast and crew of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. From the very top of the show with the Youth Chorus' beautiful voices to the closing moments with the cast in matching tie-dyed shirts jamming on stage, the show moved at a quick pace and had the audience's rapt attention throughout. Bobbie Barlow's turn as the Narrator was absolutely wonderful as her full clear voice was perfectly suited to tell us a story. Always a joy to see great character actor Dave Ward add his special take on the roles he plays. The Brothers all played their roles with enthusiasm and sounded especially powerful when singing as a group. Of course the beginning of the second act was stolen by none other than "Pharaoh" himself Lou Esposito II. Lou always has a way to make a character his own while still referencing the source material. Kudos to you brother! Hats off to Choreographer Chelsea Bardelinni and her fabulous Ensemble of chorus boys and girls; all of which looked like they were having so much fun performing that the feeling absolutely spilled over the footlights right into the audiences laps. (as an old Gypsy myself may I make one suggestion? During the dance numbers you LOOKED like you were having fun…but we couldn't HEAR that you were having fun…let's hear some whooping and hollerin during your hoedown for example) But really what would this show be without your lead, Joseph? Luke Cannon, where have you and your wonderful talent been all of PCT's life? This young man was simply sublime in the role. The audience could hear every word of his perfectly pitched voice for the duration of the show. No easy feat when you have to sing for almost two hours straight. He connected with the audience at the appropriate times and had us fully engaged with his plaintive version of "Close Every Door" (is that a tear in my eye?). I do hope we get to see more of his talent in the CA Theatre in the future. The minimal sets were effective and provided ample room for the entire cast to be on stage at once. Oh did I mention we're talking a cast of 40+??? Also a VERY special high five to the costume designers. Those second act Egyptian motif costumes were awesome; colorful, sparkly and appropriate (loved the head-dresses). Hello Shellies? Any minor quibbles could be chalked up to opening night jitters and that pesky sound system PCT is so well known for. The company has done themselves proud with their latest iteration. Thank you Director Keith W. Barlow, Cast, Crew, and company for continuing to VOLUNTARILY bringing quality arts to the City of Pittsburg. STANDING O !!!
Excellent closing show yesterday. Well done, PCT!!!
