📣PA PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT📣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Arizona currently has three PA programs working diligently through the pandemic to educate and train future PAs to serve our communities. This week, we’re highlighting the A.T. Still University PA Program in Mesa, AZ.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
••••••••••••••••••••••••
This year PA Week looked a little different considering we all are in the middle of a pandemic. The themes presented for each day were thoughtfully executed, and primarily online/virtual and while each message was important, the A.T. Still University (ATSU) PA Class of 2022 made an effort to focus on the public outreach component. Throughout the week, donations of clothes, hygiene supplies and masks were collected from students, staff and faculty across all programs at the ATSU campus in Mesa, Arizona. The donations were then given to Crossroads: Drug & Rehabilitation Treatment Center, an organization within Arizona that offers affordable addiction treatment to men and women across the valley in Arizona. We wanted to promote substance abuse awareness, so that other programs on campus could aid in
this in the future. In exchange for a donation, participants were given a ticket to attend a virtual yoga event. By the end of the donation collection period, we were able to fill two cars worth as we were barely able to fit it in the collection vehicle alone.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We want to remind anyone reading this that Crossroads is in continuous need of donations, especially for their male residents. ATSU Class of 2022 plans on holding another donation effort to support them future so please join us if you feel this speaks to you! ✨

I am imploring you to assist with the facilitation of the complete independence of Physician Assistants in Primary Care. I truly believe that allowing Physician Assistants in primary care to have the ability to practice with complete independence from Physicians, would positively impact the facilitation of Primary healthcare, particularly in this dire time for healthcare availability. It would broaden the ability of patients to obtain medical care in many various aspects i.e. Home visits, video and teleconferencing, etc. The traditional path to practicing medicine in a primary care setting is one that is “Of the past”. The path through traditional medical school is an overly burdensome path and not logical to fill the present need. With no disrespect to the following occupations, I would not consider obtaining my primary healthcare from a Psychiatrist, Radiologist, or Orthopedist, despite they being trained as medical doctors. These are just a few examples. The fact that they have become specialized in their craft, does not allow them to have the encompassed knowledge to stay up to date and effectively practice as primary care providers. Physician Assistants are also frustrated with inadequate compensation for the work we do, not only from insurers but also with the current state of benefiting the Supervising Physician for basically the same services rendered. YOU have the power to help make this happen, especially considering the current state of our health crisis.
