We've had a fantastic start to Summer Reading 2021 with around 30 young readers registered and a lot of minutes already reported!

We will be finalizing prizes for the program soon, so if you or your business would like to help with a donation of cash, gift card(s), or prizes (anything appropriate for 0-18 year olds is welcome) please get a hold of us by the end of the month.

We try to fund Summer Reading 100% through donations, and with things looking a lot different for local businesses these last two years, we would be extremely grateful for any and all additional help. (And a HUGE thank you to the generous donors who have helped out thus far!)

Also make sure to check out our Michigan Science Center "Simple Circuits & Digital Bling" electricity workshops this Wednesday at 2:00. (You do not need to be a registered summer reader or Ontonagon resident to attend.)

Great news for our Libby/OverDrive users! You can now borrow books from Lakeland Library Cooperative, Midwest Collaborative for Library Services, and Suburban Library Cooperative in addition to the many great items included in the Great Lakes Digital Library. (Access any or all of these collections in your Libby app using the instructions in the attached image.)

This takes your number of available e-books and digital audiobooks from 15,000 to over 100,000!

We would like to thank the staff at Superiorland Library Cooperative for making this possible.

Please enjoy this very deep and mature haiku composed using only the titles of recently added children's books!

If your child's education plan looks a little different this fall, we have these and thousands of other books available for students and just-for-fun readers of all ages. (Homeschooling students and parents are also eligible for extended checkouts on most items, just ask at the desk!)

08/24/2020

The Ontonagon Township Library is looking to add a call-in substitute to our staff. Substitutes get an EXTREMELY LIMITED number of hours per year when a regular staff member calls in sick, takes time off, or needs extra hands for a special project. It won't pay the bills, but it's a great way to help out the library and make a few extra bucks at the same time!

Applicants MUST BE ABLE TO WORK THE SHIFT BELOW. (After that you will be added to our list of substitutes and will be able to claim available shifts via e-mail on a first-come, first-served basis.)

FRI SEP 25 - 11:00a to 5:00p

Applicants must meet the legal requirements for employment in the State of Michigan. Applicants must be responsible adults, as the job will occasionally involve independently opening and closing a public facility, and handling (small amounts of) cash. Applicants should have a basic understanding of what a public library is. Applicants should be comfortable using computers and technology, especially search engines and copying/printing. Applicants should be comfortable interacting with the public; experience in a service-oriented environment is desirable.

Substitutes are paid minimum wage and receive no additional benefits. You will also be paid for training (which will initially consist of 5 to 10 hours of job shadowing.)

To apply, please e-mail a resume (or a brief letter explaining your interest and qualifications) to Library Director Leo Siren at [email protected]

Thanks!

Way to go, ๐”น๐•’๐•ฃ๐•ฃ๐•ช ๐”พ๐•ฃ๐•š๐•๐•๐•ค! Our summer reading adventurer blew so far past his goal that he didn't even bother going into the tower to rescue the hairy princess, and climbed atop it to pet this cool leftover Halloween bat instead. And that's how lasting friendships are formed!

THANKS again to all of our summer readers and generous donors! Prize giveaway continues this week; the library will contact you if you're eligible for a prize.

Today is the last day to turn in Summer Reading minutes! Please message or call the library (884-4411) with your minutes.
