Fox Mill Estates Homes Association

Fox Mill Estates Homes Association A residential community in Oak Hill, Virginia. Fox Mill Estates consists of 1,144 single-family colonial, traditional, and contempory homes built between 1972 and 1985 on lots ranging from ¼ acre to ½ acre.
(1)

Although the site was originally farmland that was cleared for construction, the residents have planted so many trees that in the spring and autumn the gardens in front of the houses blaze with color. The community is located in western Fairfax County near the town of Herndon, Virginia and the community of Reston, Virginia. It is bordered by Lawyers Road, Reston Parkway, West Ox Road, Fairfax County Parkway, and Fox Mill Road. This location provides quick access to the high-technology Dulles corridor and all it offers. View street map of Fox Mill Estates Fox Mill Estates is strategically positioned for a commute into Washington, DC, have great schools, are conveniently located to many restaurants and shops, and have numerous places of worship. Fox Mill Estates boasts two swim-and-tennis clubs (Fox Mill Swim and Tennis Club & Pinecrest Swim & Tennis Club), several "tot lots," gazebos, a pond, creeks, and great neighbors. It includes 57 acres of common land. The inhabitants of Fox Mill Estates are known to take their civic duties seriously and turnout is high among voters even in off-year elections. Because the neighborhood is so pleasant, with a pond and a creek as well as several groves of trees in the common areas, families trading up from one house to another often choose to stay in Fox Mill. And yes, some residents still see an occasional fox in the woods, as well as woodchuck, rabbits, and even deer.

Dear Families,

As we face the 2020/2021 school year we can all agree that there is a degree of anxiety that parents and students are feeling as we step into this new chapter. Although, we will start out virtually, we want to maintain that strong sense of community and togetherness that makes the FMES community so special. As a PTA, we have been thoughtfully considering ways we can address concerns as we approach the school year. We want to share some of what we’ve been working on to support our foxes.

Student Support:
Socialization is an important component to child development, we’re working on planning socially distanced in-person as well as virtual activities that will keep our community engaged. We will be hosting a virtual fundraiser August 18-27th that will include some fun teacher antics and student activities.

Additionally, we will be offering a virtual readiness class, paid for by the PTA, through Outschool, to get our foxes ready for distance learning. This class will cover distance learning etiquette, classroom expectations and best practices. Stay tuned for information on how to sign up.

Parent Support:
We are working on a virtual speaker series to address concerns and difficulties within our community. The PTA would love to provide this series throughout the year and welcome your ideas for upcoming topics. Be on the look out for information on the following sessions:

Accepting Change
- Mackenzie Ayers, MSW, LCSW, Oak Hill Psychological Services

Healthy Habits of Virtual Learners
- Mackenzie Ayers, MSW, LCSW, Oak Hill Psychological Services

Q&A with an Established Virtual Educator
- Michelle McFarland and Krista Smith, experienced virtual educators

We have seen many of you working to organize learning and social pods with classmates. In response, we have developed a framework to organize by teacher and self-identify family risk level (which is optional) based on a list of criteria. The goal is to support families and help them connect in meaningful and efficient ways. Once class lists have been distributed, we will provide this framework.

Additionally, we will be distributing a list of teachers who are interested in providing tutoring outside of school for those students who may need additional support.

And finally, back by popular demand, we are bringing back the school directory, in order to make it easier to stay in touch with your students’ classmates. Use the following link to participate in this optional directory:

We look forward to seeing you soon,
The Fox Mill PTA

How To File A Complaint Against Dominion - Power Outages. Tired of power outages wrought from poor infrastructure? File a complaint with the State Corporation Commission against Dominion here: https://www.scc.virginia.gov/pages/Electric-Company-Complaint-Form

Indicate you live in Fox Mill and are experiencing power outages on a continuous and unacceptably frequent basis. Don’t let the “Have you contacted the utility? (If so, what was the utility's response.)” question scare you away from filing. If you haven’t, just put “No” and file anyway. If you have, put your story. General information

The Story of Fox’s Mills. In October of 1786, Amos Fox, age 47, was granted by the Court of Fairfax County, one acre of land on which to build a mill on Difficult Run. This is at the present intersection of Fox Mill Road and Waples Mill Road. His parents, George and Mary Fox, had come to Virginia from New Jersey. Amos decided to build a grist mill for grinding grain into flour. Three of his sons, Morris, Isaac and Gabriel inherited the milling business. By 1840, there were three mills housed together in one large three-story building. The mills were woolen, grist and flour. Gabriel Fox ran the mills himself and was considered to be a wealthy man. Around 1840, Gabriel married a woman from Alexandria and moved her out to the country. There was no school for the children of the area to attend, so Mrs. Fox had a one-room, log school house erected and it was referred to as “The school at Fox’s Mills.” The school was located on Waples Mill Road just a mile from present day Route 50. Both Fox Mill Road and Fox Mill Estates are named in the memory of the three mills belonging to the Fox Family. This history was researched by Linda H. Sittig, who at the time of the report, was a reading specialist at Fox Mill Elementary School. Ever since Linda was a teenager, she has had a keen interest in history. She has gone on to a career of writing historical fiction. Linda is also an active blogger.

We are new to the neighborhood and over the last few months have experienced several power outages for no apparent reason. Rumor is it is due to a faulty transformer Dominion doesn't want to pay to fix. I'm curious if the HOA knows if this is true and if there is a way for our HOA to address power issues with Dominion? Thanks in advance.
Wow FME Association! So much amazing and beautiful work being done in our community! Great job!

What trash collections companies are available to service Fox Mill? Republic Services has become a joke. We've been using them for a few years after troubles with another company, but the price has continued to increase frequently and, just today, as many of you probably now know, they sent cards advising they're cutting service in half. All for a very generous price reduction of... less than 7% ($6). Ridiculous. Time to start shopping around again, so, if we have multiple choices in Fox Mill, recommendations are welcomed.
For anyone interested in hiding or disguising their trash/recycling bins, check these out!
