Campaign Before Richmond, 1864

Campaign Before Richmond, 1864

Participate in the only major sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) reenactment near the capital city of Richmond, Virginia, featuring battles seldom seen before.

Admission for spectators is free of charge. Registration for reenactors is now open (Artillery and cavalry registration is by invitation only). Click here if you are ready to relive history in Henrico.

The reenactment for the Campaign before Richmond, 1864 will take place at the historic Malvern Hill Battlefield, conveniently located 10 minutes from interstate 295. Confederate encampments will be placed on historic campgrounds used by the Texas Brigade the night after they fought at Malvern Hill. Union encampments will lie near the ruins of the Poindexter Farmhouse. Close to modern conveniences but secluded from contemporary intrusions, the area is perfectly suited for an optimal historic experience.

Engage in battle scenarios on fully constructed earthworks and experience the environment of war for the common soldier in 1864. Your units will also recreate the regiments who fought in the actual battle.

The event is a collaboration among Henrico County, Chris Anders, Mike Lavis and Rear Rank Productions (the creators of Balls Bluff and Maryland my Maryland), Henrico Historical Society, and other community partners.

Because this event is dedicated to historical accuracy, the official rules and regulations will be strictly enforced.
