My Country Needed Me Benefit Ride has been selected for the August Terry Lee Cares Program!
Every year we have a benefit called My Country Needed Me, all proceeds from our event go to help Active duty Military/ Families and Veterans. This year our Veterans and Military families want to help Knox! Everyone who meets him always walks away with a feeling that that little boy is meant for great things in life. If you do not know Knox, here is a brief summary of how truly strong and brave he is. When Knox was just 2, he was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma (cancer of the eye), not just in one eye, but both. He started chemo immediately, but unfortunately for Knox, he still had to lose his right eye because the tumors had grown too large. For a year, Knox adjusted to having one eye but the cancer came back in his left eye, so they performed radiation plaque directly into his eye. He continued exams every 3-6 months, just to find out another year later that what they thought was scar tissue, was the cancer again. Knox was given 6 rounds of IAC (intra-arterial chemotherapy). For this procedure, they put him under anesthesia and place the chemo into the back of eye, starting at the groin and going through his arteries. Knox got a 2 month break before doing another 5 rounds of this procedure. After months of this, in January 2020, they discovered the cancer had returned. Knox had a port placed and they started him on systemic chemo, mixed with proton radiation. Missing school and his friends, Knox was getting proton radiation 5 days a week for 5 days and systemic chemo 3 days a week every few weeks. Finally, in April 2020, Knox had his last round. What we hoped, prayed, and longed for, was this to be the end of Knox’s troubles. I am saddened to say, in the last week we have found out that the cancer has once again returned. The doctors have exhausted all options and what we thought was our last option, was short-lived when we heard about a clinical trial called We C Hope. This clinical trial is for patients, just like Knox, with retinoblastoma who have no other options. This trial has been very successful for patients just like Knox. There is one issue, this clinical trial will not be covered under Knox’s current medical coverage. They WILL cover the actual medication, but the procedures and hospitalization will not be covered. These funds are needed ASAP because Knox's tumor is fast growing and it could block his vision of sight. Tina and Tim will also be out of work for weeks and traveling for this.
We have three nominees that will be competing for the most overall engagement.
