My Country Needed Me Benefit Ride has been selected for the August Terry Lee Cares Program!

Every year we have a benefit called My Country Needed Me, all proceeds from our event go to help Active duty Military/ Families and Veterans. This year our Veterans and Military families want to help Knox! Everyone who meets him always walks away with a feeling that that little boy is meant for great things in life. If you do not know Knox, here is a brief summary of how truly strong and brave he is. When Knox was just 2, he was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma (cancer of the eye), not just in one eye, but both. He started chemo immediately, but unfortunately for Knox, he still had to lose his right eye because the tumors had grown too large. For a year, Knox adjusted to having one eye but the cancer came back in his left eye, so they performed radiation plaque directly into his eye. He continued exams every 3-6 months, just to find out another year later that what they thought was scar tissue, was the cancer again. Knox was given 6 rounds of IAC (intra-arterial chemotherapy). For this procedure, they put him under anesthesia and place the chemo into the back of eye, starting at the groin and going through his arteries. Knox got a 2 month break before doing another 5 rounds of this procedure. After months of this, in January 2020, they discovered the cancer had returned. Knox had a port placed and they started him on systemic chemo, mixed with proton radiation. Missing school and his friends, Knox was getting proton radiation 5 days a week for 5 days and systemic chemo 3 days a week every few weeks. Finally, in April 2020, Knox had his last round. What we hoped, prayed, and longed for, was this to be the end of Knox’s troubles. I am saddened to say, in the last week we have found out that the cancer has once again returned. The doctors have exhausted all options and what we thought was our last option, was short-lived when we heard about a clinical trial called We C Hope. This clinical trial is for patients, just like Knox, with retinoblastoma who have no other options. This trial has been very successful for patients just like Knox. There is one issue, this clinical trial will not be covered under Knox’s current medical coverage. They WILL cover the actual medication, but the procedures and hospitalization will not be covered. These funds are needed ASAP because Knox's tumor is fast growing and it could block his vision of sight. Tina and Tim will also be out of work for weeks and traveling for this.

We have three nominees that will be competing for the most overall engagement. If you would like to vote for My Country Needed Me Benefit Ride of Indianapolis please like, share, comment or engage with this post for this nominee on our page by the end of the month https://www.facebook.com/terryleehyundai/

Share THEIR original post to help us win the $500 for the Terry Lee Hyundai Terry Lee Hyundai Cares Donation! Three nominees and whoevers post gets the most Likes and Shares will win! Hamilton County Indiana Mask Brigade

Hamilton County Mask Brigade has been selected for the July Terry Lee Cares Program!

We started a group of people all over the county to help with the initial shortage in PPE's for the medical community, first response crews, and front line workers on March 23 after going on the stay home order. The group of volunteers has about 3000 helpers. Behind the scenes we have crews of entire families that can't sew, but help by driving wares and masks in our pony express, cutting fabric and elastic for sewing crews, donating more materials, 3D printers making face shields and ear savers, and working together to achieve some really big things! Even some members who said they could not sew, have learned to sew through the help of new friends they made in the group as well. This mission has brought us all together and created a family of sorts all over the county.

Fast forward to now, we are continuing the mission and still helping more facilities and other non profits, and are now spreading the option of getting free masks to the general public for opening things back up fully. We are supplying the schools with face shields and masks as requested too. The list of places we've helped is long and is all done through donors, volunteers, and not for a profit. We do not sell our PPE’s, but we do accept donations of materials or funds to put back into the county to purchase more supplies. We have a deal with local fabric vendors as well for keeping those funds going back into local businesses here in the county. Always in Stitches is giving us their cost for bolt fabric in bulk amounts.

We also have a CNC Cutter in Frankfort that can cut a large amount of mask cuts for us very quickly. This has helped our crews create abundantly more coverage too.

We have circulated over 39,000 items thus far to help flatten the curve with our distanced assembly line.

We were fortunate to partner with NFD to set up a table where they give out Hand Sanitizer and be there to answer questions and debunk COVID Myths when that comes up. We have handed out PPE’s to all front line, essential superheroes out there as our first priority over the last few months, and will continue to donate those to clinics and offices that will open soon, and also will be now helping the general public more with our medical and emergency workers covered.

We have three nominees that will be competing for the most overall engagement. If you would like to vote for Hamilton County Mask Brigade please like, share, comment or engage with the post for this nominee on our page by the end of the month https://www.facebook.com/terryleehyundai/

Any of my sewing members want to try these? We have some special needs students requesting and some caregivers, audiologists, and/or teachers that will be needing them. Let me know and I’ll supply you with Metal Nose Pieces and some of the clear vinyl shower curtain liners.

Thank you @Jenny R Sherrill for sharing your design and template for the Window Masks for those that need to read lips or see their caregivers/teachers faces/smiles.

Notes from Jenny on how she did this:
😷 - The Olsen Pattern is basically the one used here for the rounded shape.

😷 - There's the thought that if one used wire at top and bottom for shaping, there might be a way to in up more space.

😷 - There are darts at the top on either side of the nose, darts on the side, and the shape is a little rounded.
