This week we held the distinct pleasure of honoring John T. and Jane Capps for their extraordinary work with Rotary. Our club has been so blessed to have John and Jane show us the true meaning of being a Rotarian. They truly embody our motto of “Service Above Self”. John and Jane were presented with the key to Morehead City on this memorable occasion. The Morehead City Noon Rotary made the day even more memorable by officially making May 11th John T. Capps Day!!! Congratulations John and Jane! We as a community and club commend you for the tremendous work and dedication that you have shown not only to this club, but to our community, nation, and the world. You truly are the epitome of the word Rotarian. We can not thank you enough for your service! 🙏

At this weeks meeting we had the honor of hosting the President of Carteret Community College, Dr. Tracey Mancini. Dr. Mancini shared exciting updates about the progress of the new Career Center the school will share with NCWorks, info about the new Hospitality and Culinary Arts Center, and the school’s shoreline protection project. Our club also learned about the public library and many new programs that CCC now offers. Dr. Mancini also reminded us that the campus is open to the public and invited the community to stroll the new walking path near the waters edge once it’s completed.

Many laughs were shared today as we heard stories from local historian Rodney Kemp at our weekly meeting.

Rodney is involved in many historical organizations including the Carteret County Historical Society which has an excellent museum and research library where he has presented his popular “Fridays With Rodney” talks since 2001.

In 2003, he was named North Carolina Historian of the Year. Earlier this month Rodney was presented a letter from Governor Roy Cooper, recognizing him for preserving the history in eastern nc.
