Thank you Governor Ellen Deaton for coming to our meeting this morning Sept 8, 2021. She was inspiring with her words and she asked to be invited back if she can be of help with any of our fundraisers. We now meet at the Bryant Student Center right next to the coffee shop at Carteret Community College. The nice folks from the coffee shop will open early on Wednesdays so that we will have coffee & morning treats available to start our meeting with. Hope to see everyone next week, if not at the meeting, please join us on Zoom.

This morning, July 28, 2021 our club met at the Salvation Army building, and also on Zoom. The guest speaker was Maj. Aaron Goldfarb of the Salvation Army in Morehead City. They are very generous to allow us to meet at their location as we continue to maneuver logistics due to Covid-19 and the latest variant.
The Major gave us very interesting insights as to the services their organization provides to folks in Carteret County, including feeding and clothing the homeless, assisting those who have been evicted, providing a mobile unit to feed and hydrate those in emergency situations such as at fire scenes, etc. They come to the rescue of many in need including those who are left wanting through natural disasters and so forth. They are always looking for volunteers to help out at their resale store. They are also looking to hire help so if you know someone who would be a candidate for a job, please have them go by or call for an interview. Thank you Major Aaron for your services and your generosity to our club!

This morning, June 9, 2021, we are approaching the end of our fiscal year. Despite dealing with the pandemic we had a successful year thanks to Heather's leadership and the participation of all of our members who worked extra hard to keep things together. Phyllis and Bill reported good numbers on our virtual road race fund raiser that will help us to support charitable causes and promote scholarships in the next fiscal year.
We want to give a big shout out to our Road Race Sponsors who by their financial support made our fundraiser very successful. Thank you to all of you!

On this June 2, 2021 meeting we were pleased to have Don Kirkman of the Crystal Coast Economic Development as our guest speaker. Don updated us on the economic improvements in our county despite a year of Covid-19 challenges. Unemployment has fallen and the county faces a shortage in labor. Occupancy Rates are up with nearly 9 million dollars in occupancy taxes collected in 2020 and trending higher in 2021. Retail sales taxes were up over a million dollars from 2019 to 2020 and trending higher so far in 2021. Real Estate Excise Taxes, which are generated from Deed Transfers reached $2,585,874. in 2020. Don reported on a shortage in both available residential rentals and a low inventory of residential properties for sale, all generating higher demand and higher prices on available inventory. Don also announced he will be retiring in June following the second time he has headed this organization. We wish Don a very happy retirement and we thank him for his hard work in promoting the economic interests of Carteret County.

On this May 26, 2021 our club had it's first in-person meeting in nearly 14 months. And what a great meeting it was with all members enjoying the opportunity to see each other in person again!
I, Tom Saunders had the program, and Brenda generously agreed to arrange a tour of the new CCC Hospitality and Culinary Arts Center! Maggie, the lead architect of the project presented many interesting facts regarding the facility while Brenda showed us all of the rooms and introduced us to a multitude of the latest food prep equipment and appliances. Truly a state-of-art facility. Matt is a CCC Board member who also shared many interesting aspects about the process to bring it where it is today.

Good morning everyone as we met on this cloud May 12th morning. A quick recap of the Virtual Road Race was discussed. Consensus is we did fairly well considering this was our first dive into a virtual road race. Numbers were behind our previous "live, on site races", and we look forward to returning to that live event next April.
Shirley attended the CCC graduation service to present scholarships to two recipients this year. We are able to do this in direct correlation to our fund raisers such as the recent road race event we recently hosted.
June 23rd will be our Social along with the changing of the guard. Please contact Cheryl if you are able to attend.
