Hi HKRS Morehead City Families!! ๏ฟผ

๏ฟผUnfortunately, the Morehead City, NC Series will not be hosting local programming for Fall 2020.
If you are interested in still running this season, HKRS has an amazing opportunity we would love to share with you! ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ
Healthy Kids Running Series is now offering a Virtual World Race! This is an adaptation of the usual HKRS race day, with a little twist. The Virtual World Race is a national and international experience open to all healthy kids families across the globe! Donโ€™t miss this opportunity to join a world-wide community!
The Virtual World Race can be run (or walked) from any location you choose! That may be in your neighborhood, on a trail, or at a local park! You can run, jog, walk, on the grass, on the treadmill, or anywhere of your choosing. Families you determine your start and finish line! The opportunities are endless.
Your child will run their age appropriate distance each week for five weeks at their own pace, parents you track and record their results! Parents will upload their childโ€™s time after their distance is run each week to the World Race Results sheet, you can find this on Healthy Kids Running Seriesโ€™ main website on our results page. We are so excited to have you! Letโ€™s reach for the stars and Get Up and Go towards an active, healthy lifestyle!๏ฟผ๏ฟผ

We mapped our neighborhood!

Disclosure: we donโ€™t recommend turn arounds for the 50 and 75 yard dash. We did it so our children could all start together. With 4 different runners we needed to make it easier for us.

Welcome to the first week of running with #HealthyKidsVirtual!

We know this is different than usual but if the last month+ has showed us anything, itโ€™s how creative and resilient our kids can be! The sun is shining and today is a perfect day to run if it fits within your Sunday schedule. (If not, thereโ€™s always tomorrow... or the day after...)

Check back for a video later today! Your HKRS Coordinators will be getting outside with our own families and we canโ€™t wait to cheer for you from our own homes.

Thanks for sticking with us for our first ever virtual run!

Here are some Virtual Series Fun Facts!

๐Ÿ’š Where can we run? ๐Ÿ’š
-Registered participants will still race their age appropriate distances, just on their own courses - whether in their backyard, their neighborhoods, sidewalks, fields, etc.

๐Ÿ’™ Can we still register our child? ๐Ÿ’™
Short Answer: YES!
-Registration for spring 2020 is still open and will remain so through the 5 weeks of our series! That way if a sibling wants to join in or a neighbor sees all the fun youโ€™re having (from a distance, of course) they can register too.

๐Ÿ’š Do we have to run on Sunday? ๐Ÿ’š
Short Answer: Nope!
The great part about a VIRTUAL race is that itโ€™s on your own time! Runners will be given a full 7 days to complete their age appropriate distance race and submit their results on our location specific Google spreadsheet.

๐Ÿ’™ How will we show our childโ€™s progress? ๐Ÿ’™
We encourage (but it's not required) that parents time and record their childโ€™s time weekly using our public Google spreadsheet (honor system please!)

๐Ÿ’š How much does the virtual race cost? ๐Ÿ’š
HKRS does their best to bring an affordable race cost to everyone! The cost for the full five week virtual race experience is $35 dollars!

๐Ÿ’™ What do we get for registering? ๐Ÿ’™
Tech T-shirt and a finisher medal when it is deemed safe. A sense of pride, accomplishment, and having people cheering you on virtually happens immediately.

๐Ÿ’š Will there be trophies for top finishers? ๐Ÿ’š
Unfortunately, we will be unable to award trophies this season. BUT, we are still looking for one OUTSTANDING kid to receive our Healthy Kid Award!

๐Ÿ’™ Whatโ€™s a Healthy Kid Award? ๐Ÿ’™
Short Answer: The best award ever!
Healthy Kids Running Series looks for one individual that exudes our mission, vision, and values throughout the 5 weeks of racing! This season we will be looking at race day smiles, cheering on their siblings, and above all, trying their best!

๐Ÿ’š How do we get our Shirt and Medal? ๐Ÿ’š
-At the conclusion of the virtual race series, participants will be invited to join us, when appropriate, at a Shirt & Medal Pickup event hosted by our Coordinators.

๐Ÿ’™ Iโ€™ve already enrolled my family, do I need to re-sign up for HKRS Virtual? ๐Ÿ’™
Short answer: Nope!
In preparation for this change, HKRS has automatically enrolled all registered Spring participants to our Virtual series.

๐Ÿ’š Can I change my registration to a different season? ๐Ÿ’š
Short answer: Absolutely!
HKRS national office emailed the link to a Google Form that all parents who wish to defer their current registration to either the Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 series will need to fill out and submit.

Healthy Kids Running Series remains committed to engaging our community, albeit virtually. We'll continue to provide healthy tips as well as suggest activities to keep the whole family moving.

๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™ Still have questions or concerns? ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™
Not to worry, we have the answers! Send a PM or email [email protected]

We canโ€™t wait to see you at your VIRTUAL starting line!

Our Spring Series has gone virtual!

Healthy Kids Virtual is an adaptation of the usual HKRS Race Day experience! HKRS believes in leading an active healthy lifestyle. During the time of social distancing, it is important that parents encourage children to stay active!

A Virtual Race is a race that can be run (or walked) from any location you choose. You can run, jog or walk on the grass, on the sidewalk, on the trail, on the treadmill or on the track. Your child will run their age appropriate race distance, at their own pace, and Mom and Dad record the time!

Parents then upload the time after each race into the Series specific results sheet found on our Results Page. Families can also choose their own start and finish line, or run for a set amount of time.

The recent postponements and cancellations of events are disappointing, but we are also aware they are necessary to prevent further spread of disease. We are hoping these postponements of youth sports donโ€™t turn into cancellations and everyone is able to get back out on the fields/tracks/mats (Iโ€™m sure Iโ€™m missing some sport) soon!

The Positive Coaching Alliance offers some suggestions about how to talk to your athlete (as a parent) about this disappointment.

โ€œThe current crisis asks our athletes and all of us to apply these ideas in a more critical situation. Coaches and parents wonโ€™t be able to erase the disappointment of athletes. They can, however, help them see that living up to this difficult civic responsibility is honorable and should become a source of pride.โ€

SPRING SERIES ANNOUNCEMENT 3/14/2020

As we continue to closely follow the developments surrounding the spread of COVID-19, and after much deliberation, Healthy Kids Running Series (nationally) is postponing the start of the spring Seriesโ€™ until the weekend of April 17. With the health and safety of our participants, Coordinators and communities as our top priority, we feel this is in the best interest of all.

For our Morehead City location this means there will be no early race bag pickup. As of today, we will begin races April 19th as planned.

It is our intention and desire to conduct a full, five-week spring Series beginning the weekend of April 19th. This is heavily dependent on guidance from our national office, as well as local closures.

*Registration will remain open for those that are still interested in joining us!

Let's all keep our Healthy Kids healthy! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ‘Ÿ๐Ÿ’š
