Senior Holocaust Studies students prepared and planted more than 250 daffodils as part of the @thedaffodilproject, which has a goal to create a worldwide living memorial by planting 1.5 million daffodils in remembrance of the children lost in the Holocaust. The daffodil shape and color represent the yellow Star of David the Jewish people were forced to wear. These daffodils represent hope and renewal, and also honor survivors who built new lives.

(1) What do you like most about teaching?
⚔️ I really enjoy those aha moments when a student has been struggling with an idea or topic and it clicks all of a sudden. I also enjoy when students absorb what we learn in class and apply it to their lives outside of class.

(2) What do you think makes MDS unique?
⚔️ I think the location, the faculty and staff, as well as the students all make MDS unique. The amount of alumni that come back to visit teachers I think is also very special!

(3) What is the most creative/innovative lesson you have done in class?
⚔️ I think one of the most creative things we do in class is working and reproducing LEGO blocks into AutoCAD. I think it's one of the best ways to learn how to visualize and reproduce shapes in a 3D environment.

(4) Besides content, what do you hope your students learn?
⚔️ How to be problem solvers. Especially with computers, there isn't just one way to solve a problem. Sometimes students teach me a new way of approaching a problem that is very creative.

(5) If you weren't teaching, what would be your dream job?
⚔️ One of my dream jobs would be to create and test video games.

At MDS, academic rigor is balanced with the flexibility for students to customize their educational path. For example, Mrs. Bell's 9th grade Algebra 1 classes utilize ALEKS, an online software program allowing students to move at their own pace to learn and master topics. Mrs. Bell acts as a facilitator setting deadlines and working individually as students need instruction. At least one student in the class is on track to complete a year of Algebra 1 before Christmas then start Geometry in Easter semester. He can finish Geometry during the summer in order to start Algebra 2 the following year!
