It's another Amazing Mother Monday!! This is Deshanté and her mother Donita. Don't they look like they could be twins?! Donita raised 3 beautiful girls alongside her husband. One thing Deshanté remembers her mother saying is, " What do Tillman's do?! They shine!!" All 3 girls would respond with, "We shine!!" Her mother had her saying affirmations and speaking things into manifestation before she even knew of those words!

Deshanté remembers her mother always praying over her girls and her family, teaching them right from wrong, even when it was uncomfortable. The seeds that her mother planted in her allowed her to be the loving, praying and successful person that she is. Deshanté knows that her mom is her #1 fan and biggest cheerleader and there is no other love like that of a mother's.

Thank you Deshanté for sharing your lovely picture of you and your mom! If anyone would like to be featured for Amazing Mother Monday please message us in our inbox! Have a great week!

Cash Grants for Up to $1,000 for Current and Former Foster Youth

Current and Former Foster Youth are disproportionally being affected by COVID-19. Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, is giving away $1 Billion in response to the pandemic. So far he has given away $236 million. Think of Us is a small nonprofit and does not typically provide this type of support.

What is this and what can a current or former foster youth possibly get?

This is an application for an opportunity to apply for a one-time micro cash grant of up to $1000 and an email with resources related to your needs.
What will happen when this fund run out of money?

We Will Go Above and Beyond - We will share the needs of applicants with additional donors, advocates and other stakeholders who we think can take action to solve your needs. We won't share any of the youth's personal information. If there are resources that they can provide, we will circle right back to you.
How does this work?

Eligibility: Current and former foster youth 14 through 29 who have spent at least one day in foster care after their 14th birthday are eligible to apply for up to $1,000
Cash Use: This grant is super flexible. We believe that youth know best what they need.
Getting the Funds: The funds will be delivered via western union, venmo, cashapp, zelle or what what might work best for the youth.
Deadline and Award: November 18, 2020 is the deadline to apply. Cash Grant will be awarded by December 1st, 2020.

Retired and Active Members. I attended a drive thru Halloween Party hosted by Long Beach Salvation Army. Received a box of goodies and resources. It was all treats and I was the trick. As we grow older don't forget the power of playing and interacting with others. You are able to enjoy outside activities, volunteering, or taking a class on Zoom. It's important to stay connected.

Elder Abuse is reportable

Yesterday New Impression received our first Domestic Violence Case. Without our intervention this could have been a child abuse referral. During these traumatic times I am concerned that we will see more cases and we are planning a Zoom Conference Call. In the meantime don't hesitate to reach out to us. Attached is a critical resource. If you wish copies email us. We are here to serve our communities during this new world order. We also have copies in Spanish. We will post the name of the organization that will send free of charge. Stay safe.

Please share. We need County Employees to Mentor our Foster Youth.

As we start the new year, we have a new round of reasons why County of Los Angeles is a great place to live, work and play!

One informal way the County as an employer seeks to make its mark on the community is through our employee programs. The County’s newest service opportunity for our employees, the Los Angeles County Employee Youth Mentoring Program, was launched this Tuesday through a unanimous vote by the Board. This new volunteer program provides an incredible opportunity to connect the County’s diverse and knowledgeable workforce with youth in need of positive adult role models.

By partnering with well-established mentoring organizations in Los Angeles County, such as the Flintridge Center, EmpowHER Institute, Sparks Program, and many others, this valuable program will provide yet another outlet for our workforce to use theirs skills, passion, and commitment to benefit our community. As Supervisor Solis stated, "As mentors, our County employees can influence our future leaders by encouraging our youth to grow more confident of their abilities and have a more expansive view of their potential.”

To read more about this great program, go to https://hildalsolis.org/la-county-to-launch-youth-employee-mentoring-program.

Then learn how you can join a workforce that cares about the community both on and off the clock by visiting hr.lacounty.gov.
