On this day before the tragedy at Virginia Tech occured, our region experience another tragedy.

Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue Technician Kyle Wilson died in the line of duty on April 16, 2007 while performing search and rescue operations at a house fire on Marsh Overlook Drive, located in the Woodbridge area of Prince William County. On that day, Technician Wilson was part of the firefighter staffing on Tower 512 which responded to the house fire that was dispatched at 0603 hours. The Prince William County area was under a high wind advisory as a nor’eastern storm moved through the area. Sustained winds of 25 mph with gusts up to 48 mph were prevalent in the area at the time of the fire dispatch to Marsh Overlook Drive.

We always remember our fallen brothers and sisters and one of the ways to best honor their memory is to learn from their deaths to try to prevent it from happening again. Please review the LODD report with your crews.

04/02/2021

April 2nd is Autism Awareness Day and April is Autism Acceptance Month. Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech, and nonverbal communication. According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism affects an estimated 1 in 54 children in the United States today.

In late 2019, the Local 3756 started working on the Autism Care bag project in hopes of having them ready to be placed in service on every ambulance in Loudoun County for Autism Acceptance Month 2020. Then COVID happened. The project was delayed inevitably, but by August of 2020 the bags were ready and placed in service county-wide along with training material for all system members. Within 24 hours of being delivered, the first care bag was successfully used on an EMS call involving an Autistic child with Company 623 in Moorefield. Since then, the bags have seen use all over the county.

With the opening of the mass vaccination center at the Dulles Town Center, our members soon realized there was a need for the bags there as well and several were placed in service to assist with vaccinating our special needs population. Those bags are used almost daily to the delight of the patients and caregivers.

Local 3756 and LCFR continue to strive to provide the best service and protection for all of our residents and visitors 24/7.
