Nonprofit Farms Foster Community and Fight Hunger During COVID-19

Many thanks to William & Mary student Rebecca Topness for her excellent story about our local community farms and how they helped our community fight hunger last year. We are so grateful for our partners at JK Community Farm and Piedmont Environmental Council here in Loudoun. Thanks also to our partners at Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
Glad to also see the Fauquier Education Farm and the Mid-Atlantic Food Resilience & Access Coalition mentioned for their good work as well.

Thanks go out today to a great group of teens for their offsite volunteer service project. They planned the project, fundraised, solicited donations, packed and delivered about 120 kits that will go out to the families we serve this week. Some are laundry kits and some are family personal hygiene kits. With thanks to Giant Food Potomac Station for donating the bags! #neighborshelpingneighbors #teenservice

We've earned the 2021 Guidestar Platinum Seal of Transparency, the highest rating a nonprofit can receive through Guidestar and Candid's nonprofit evaluation. This is important because donors and supporters should feel confident that their donations are in the hands of good stewards who provide visible services and impacts in our community.
We're proud of this achievement and are grateful for the community support. Together, we can be sure our neighbors have access to enough nutritious food to eat.

It’s #MissionMonday and our mission is to provide access to nutritious food for our neighbors in need. 5 pallets of fresh fruits and vegetables were donated by Sam’s Club today and our volunteers will sort through them this morning.

We are also picking up from our friends at JK Community Farm this afternoon, adding fresh, locally grown, seasonal produce to our distribution this week. Lots of beautiful options for good nutrition. 🍍🥭🍋🥑🫑🥬

Check out the FREE training being offered by Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter (LAWS)/Loudoun Citizens for Social Justice to anyone in the community to help prevent, identify and respond to child sexual abuse.

Did you know that April is not only sexual assault awareness month, but also child abuse prevention month? Only about one third of child sexual abuse incidents are identified and even fewer are reported. During SAAM, we wanted to take a minute to highlight a FREE online training available to all. This two hour training is designed to help anyone in the community prevent, identify, and respond to child sexual abuse. We encourage all parents and caregivers to click on the link below (use free code FLIPTHESWITCH) to help take steps in protecting our children and putting an end to child sexual abuse.

DYK? Our grocery store partners provide rescued food every day to families in need through LHR! Each week, our vehicles pick up from around 30 grocery stores throughout Loudoun. Rescued food items are short date or surplus, but still usable. There's a volunteer quality control team at LHR that inspects items for damage before we use them. We're proud to partner with so many caring grocery store teams around Loudoun! #neighborshelpingneighbors #thankagrocerystoreworker

It's #WhatWeNeedWednesday and what we needed this morning was volunteers! Thank you to our volunteers who showed up to help pack food this morning in the rain. We are grateful for the help! In March, we are averaging 856/households served each week through pantry services. This is down slightly from our 921/household average in January/February. In addition to our pantry services, we are providing an additional 800 or so food boxes to LCPS, faith partners, Healthworks and others each week. #neighborshelpingneighbors #webelievenooneshouldbehungry
