Top 5 reasons to adopt the marvelous Midnight:

1) She's stunning--just look at these photos!

2) Older cats (she's 10) have an established purrsonality - and hers is absolutely wonderful! Midnight is very social, sweet, and affectionate. She loves to be snuggled and held.

3) Midnight is a smart cookie. But, she doesn't understand why she's been overlooked for so long--she's been waiting 18 long months for her forever home!

4) Her adoption fees are waived and her thyroid meds are covered thanks to the kind guardian angels who sponsored her.

5) While she isn't a fan of other cats, Midnight has an overabundance of unconditional love to give her forever human(s).

Meet Midnight this Saturday at our adoption event from 12 to 3pm at the Ashburn PetValu. If you can't wait that long, please contact us at [email protected] to arrange a meet and greet.

Defending the pawsomeness of senior cats.

We work out butts off to dispel the current thinking about older cats. So when a stupid albeit well-meaning article like this comes out and perpetuates the ignorance, we have to speak up.

1. Thirteen is *not* elderly for a cat. Indoor cats can live to 20+. 13 is senior, but by no means elderly. We have a 17 year old who runs up and down the stairs and can jump onto a desk without hesitation.

2. This statement: "Unfortunately, being so old, it was unlikely that anybody would be interested in adopting him..." Really? Again, he's not "so old" but more importantly, there are plenty of people who love seniors, and adopt only seniors! We don't claim older cats fly out of shelters and rescues, but there are many senior adopters out there.

3. "Besides being old, Jamie had some health problems that took time to fix: cat flu, while he also had kidney issues and bad teeth."
Cat flu? If they mean upper respiratory infection, that's basically a cold, and yes, cats in shelters are prone to it, especially if they are older. A week or so of antibiotics will get rid of that. And "kidney issues" are super common in older cats, but other than drinking more water, it is usually not a big deal. Think of it this way: As humans age, they can have arthritis and/or high blood pressure; cats tend to get higher kidney values.

The rewards of adopting a senior pet are many, please don't let misguided articles like this perpetuate the misconceptions.

Does microchipping really work?

A study of more than 7,700 stray animals at animal shelters showed that dogs without microchips were returned to their owners 22% of the time, whereas microchipped dogs were returned to their owners 52% of the time.

Cats without microchips were reunited with their owners only 2% of the time, whereas microchipped cats went back home 39% of the time.

For Valentine’s Day, Let’s Find Midnight a Guardian Angel! | Humane Society of Loudoun County

Midnight has been waiting 18 months for her forever home. ADOPTED! Sis, a gorgeous tortie, is hanging out with her new buddy, Evander. Evander was very depressed by the recent loss of his BFF to kidney failure. His human reached out to HSLC to find him a new friend. Sis also needed a friend (and forever home) and so she was introduced to Evander. Close in age, we hope they enjoy many happy years together!

02/08/2020

The cat in the Oscar-winning movie, “The Godfather” was a stray that director, Francis Ford Coppola found on the Paramount movie lot during filming. He added the cat himself, believing that it would help show the Godfather, Don Vito Corleone‘s, soft side.

Conspiracy theories suggest that, wishing to be famous, the cat manipulated animal-lover Marlon Brando into being featured in the movie. In fact, the cat purred so loudly during filming that it overpowered some of Brando‘s lines, which later had to be edited and looped.

Fast forward 48 years and you have another scene-stealer, #MargoTheComebackCat, taking her rightful place on Brando’s lap. And like the cat in the movie, Margo will offer you charm, lively conversation and stellar lap warming. 02/06/2020

Fluffy is one lucky rabbit! HSLC volunteer, Karen Jorde, contacted us about a rabbit needing to be rescued from a parking lot near her home. Enter HSLC VP and first-time bunny whisperer, Donna Drake, who with the help of a teenager was able to get Fluffy into a carrier after a brief chase with a net. She then brought this little cutie to our friends at the Loudoun County Animal Shelter. (HSLC is foster-based; we do not have a shelter).

We don't know Fluffy's backstory. But, he was probably abandoned when his previous owners moved. Domestic bunnies cannot survive on their own and Fluffy would have surely died had he not been rescued. Thanks to our volunteers, Fluffy is safe and warm and will live happily ever after in a loving forever home.

A mostly blind kitty might not be the obvious choice for a Super Bowl referee. But, Margo is looking so freaking irresistible in her little uniform that we just had to share!

Can you believe that this absolutely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G cat hasn't been adopted yet? So affectionate with humans and friendly with other animals, #MargoTheComebackCat hasn't let her limited vision hold her back from living her best life. Let's give Margo the big win she's been patiently waiting for by finding her a loving forever home before Valentine's Day.

If you'd like to schedule a meet and greet with Margo, please email [email protected]. Note that a guardian angel has sponsored her adoption fee in full.

I guess Phantom is my valentine this year. I got a morning kiss, now if I can just get him to make me breakfast in bed!

LONG HAIR KITTY SEEN RUNNING IN SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOT IN LEESBURG VIRGINIA UNDER PARKED CARS TONIGHT AROUND 7PM. COULD NOT GET A GOOD LOOK AT THE KITTY. LOOKED MEDIUM SIZE, DARK IN COLOR, LONG HAIR. SORRY WAS DRIVING IN OPPOSITE SIDE. COULD NOT GET PICTURES. sHOPPING CENTER IS LEESBURG PLAZA SHOPPING CENTER - 500 EAST MARKET STREET LEESBURG VIRGINIA .
It has been a little bit over a year since we brought Mayo home from the shelter. She has become a happy kitty even though she spent the first couple of weeks under the bed.
We adopted Willow (seen at the end of the video) last year and her momma from Humane Society of Loudoun. Yes, when we adopt them, we love them and their mischiefs. I can’t keep them off the tree. They keep on steeling the ornaments. 😂
Come visit the HSLC at Bluemont Fair.
I have a 1 year old cat, she is spayed and has her vaccines. I found out last night that my brother is very allergic, so I cannot keep her anymore. She is very loving, good with kids and needs a new home ASAP.
Adoption Update: Sally (now Lainee) 💕 I adopted Sally about a year ago now. She is an absolutely ridiculous bundle of goofball love. She is spoiled rotten by my family and loves to come with me wherever she can. I take her to Bible study and she runs around, plopping herself down in front of any source of affection. And. She. Milks. It. They love her to death, we love her to death, and I’m so grateful to have such a loving and goofy dog in my life. 💕 (I have loads more pictures but I had to pick the best one for this post of her all geared up for a car ride. 😂)
I would like to comfort the pets at the shelter tomorrow. Is this possible?
Volume up for purring!! We are quite comfy this morning!!!
Lost cat Purcellville area. Please hit me up if seen. Escaped early this morning. Answers to Dallas.
